“After a thorough evaluation, we have modified our approach to console gaming and will transition exclusively to a licensing model. This shift in strategy means we will cease production of Disney Infinity, where the lack of growth in the toys-to-life market, coupled with high development costs, has created a challenging business model. This means that we will be shutting down Avalanche, our internal studio that developed the game. This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans.”

I can't believe it! @WebmasterPete & Ryno! I actually really enjoyed your last review as well!

I was thinking of posting something here knowing they did a Free Form Friday on the game ... thanks for starting this

I am sad to see it go - my kids enjoyed playing it and it was something they would actually play together at. I would have thought that it was profitable but I guess the rest of the division was just too far underwater to proceed.

Shame though

Lol. Well, at least people have nice figures to display, if they aren't going to keep playing the game

Well, it's not like the game is obsolete now. There's plenty of figures to play as and the games can still be played.

Oh yeah, and perhaps my post came off a tad dramatic - just thinking more long term

Shame - I know quite a few peeps who either played/enjoyed this themselves, or their kids did. I quit any type of non PC gaming after I gave away my GameBoy, which shows you how long ago that was. :)

That totally stinks! Each time they came out with a new version it was always an improvement over the last. My son will be disappointed. And this was the only game my wife would ever play.

It's really too bad because I have one kid that absolutely loves it. Not to sound completely dense, but in them shutting down Avalanche, does this mean all of the created games will be gone and we'll just be left with the game discs specific to the characters?

Without commenting on the quality of the gaming system or its "fun factor", Disney Infinity was a bad business decision from the get-go. Sometimes Disney can't see past it's own hubris in the way it insists on going it's own way. How could they not see that licensing arrangements on existing platforms was the better way to go?

I expect the servers will eventually go down, so access to all the created Toy Boxes will cease, but the Playsets should still be playable. Depends on how much of 3.0 was server dependent.

Curse you, Toy-To-Life games! Now I have to run out and buy all the figures...

You really astound me at your mature view on things Ryan. For a "kid" of only 18 years of age, you certainly come across far more mature. Good work :)
Well thank you! Most 18 year olds aren't in love with Disney as a business and as a place to enjoy like I am, they would rather be going to parties or doing things they might be arrested for.

True.
I was similar to you when I was a teen, wasn't interested in drinking and parties, I just wanted to go horse riding. Kept me out of the trouble my then friends were getting into.

Blame EA. Basically its pure business decision. When EA dropped that ton of money in there lap for the Star Wars IP to make games it takes the risk out of making games and still gives them a load of money. Im expecting at E3 (the big computer game conferences) that Activision has snapped up the rights for Disney toy to life and will be added to Skylanders. Would really love Nintendo getting the rights and making them Amibo
