is this right... I book now room only for probably oct or nov of 2006 and pay that off... i intend to add in passes and dining later...a special deal comes along that is a good rate...at that time i change to a package and add in passes and dining and since i will be spending more (due to the passes and dining)i wont have to pay any penalties...is this right and the way to do it or am i still missing some important bit of info? thanks

You can do it this way. Since you have room-only ressie, there is no penalty for cancellation or changes as long as you're beyond 5 days of arrival (if my memory serves me correctly).

That's what I did. I booked room-only ressie. And then later upgraded to dining+tickets with no problem. Even after you upgraded to package deal, if a discount code comes out and is available for your time, resort, room type, and package type, you can apply it without problem.

Hope this helps.

The only thing I would caution is that you continue to save your money.

If you make those changes within 45 days of your date of arrival, the new balance will be due when you make the change. Sometimes they'll give you a 24 hour courtesy hold, but for all intents and purposes it'll be due when you book.

There's no penalty for this - it's just that a package needs to be paid in full a minimum of 45 days prior to arrival. :)

And you're not dumb.

I'm considering beginning negotiations with universities to offer a bachelor's degree in Disney reservation and ticketing policies. There are too many policies, rules, exceptions to the rules, and loopholes for ANYBODY to get this stuff completely!!!!!!! :teeth:

Dan: As you seem to be something of an expert on this subject, maybe you can answer my question.

I booked room only and already added my tickets. Does this mean that I can't upgrade to a package if a fantastic deal comes out? I'm guessing that because I already purchased the tickets, I'd only be able to take advantage of a room only deal.

Well - you can still convert to a package. But because tickets are non-refundable, you would still be stuck with extra tickets.

What you can do is convert to a package. Then pick up the tickets you purchased seperately, and keep them aside for a different trip.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I have no idea when we might be able to go again, so we may be better off looking for a room-only deal instead.
