Ugh. I'm in packing frenzy here, as we leave for Florida in four days. YAY!!! We never get particularly dressed up, so ds 7 does not own a suit. I went out to buy one for him--- without him which was a HUGE mistake--- yesterday, and came home alarmed that he doesn't fit in a size 8!!!! So, the plan tomorrow was to trek out shopping again (it is a long drive--- there are no shopping centers for 45 miles around here), return the too small suit and get a larger one. The thing is, we are looking at spending close to $70 (by the time you count the pants, jacket and white dress shirt) for something he isn't likely to wear again. Would a 7 yo be out of place on formal night if he was wearing dress pants (not suit pants, but a cut above Dockers), with a long sleeved button up oxford and tie? DH will be wearing a suit. We aren't altogether sure if the kids will be eating with us on formal night or not (depends on when we can get Palo's ressies, and with two under the age of two dinner and formal wear seem like a disaster waiting to happen! LOL) which makes me complete unsure as to how worthwhile the investment is.
So, I guess I need to know if ds 7 will be totally out of place if he is in dress pants, dress shirt and tie rather than a formal suit? If he wouldn't be and it wouldn't be offensive, then I think I'll probably choose to skip the shopping trek tomorrow, and return the suit when we return home saving the $$ (especially since he isn't likely to have a suit wearing occasion again before he outgrows it). However, if it would be inappropriate for him to be sans jacket, I'm totally into going.
So. . . . advice please!!! Many thanks!!!
