It's always cheaper to stay offsite. So, I'm not sure what the OP's original point is. The deal is a good one when you compare on-site rack rate and on-site with the deal.
If you compare on-site with the deal and off-site, it's comparing apples and oranges.
Now, if the point is that many people will now opt to stay off-site, even with attractive discounts and other enticements from Disney, that's probably true. But, that's just a function of a taking economy. That's why I predict we're going to see deals abounding for 2009.
