Sorry but, isn't VMK for children under the age of 14?

I was thinking about this also. I do find this interesting about the ages of your/my friends. I have some 12-13ish friends. Some 10ish kind also. But mostly pre-teens or teens. I have nothing wrong with having a adult friend. But I do find it odd since it says for 14 and under. (no flames plz)

It does not say anywhere that VMK is only for 14 and under. In fact BobRichman Quoted what VMK

Can I Play?

Hey, it's a free country, of course you can play. VMK may be designed for 8-14 year olds, but Disney fans of all ages will have a blast. No matter how old you are, you'll discover something fun in the game. Just make sure you respect the VMK way so that everybody has a good time.
Here are a few Rules and Guidelines for VMK:.

so you see it is for all ages.

It is targeted to the 8-14 yr olds probably why they still allow taken and bay be stuff but not limited to that age group.

You will find that there are many things out there that are "designed" for kids that appeal to adults as well- I'm thinking Harry Potter as the best example- that is probably the one children's book with the biggest adult following out there...

This is another great example. When I went to the last book premier the jam-packed crowd was I'd say, oh, maybe about 40% kids - all others over the age of 18. And at the last movie preimier, it was probably about 15% kids... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Yes, there may be a statement about the design being for 8-14 yrs olds, and I think that was the original intent. I do believe though that the game gurus in charge may have been surprised (hopefully pleasantly) to discover that older age groups were faithfully enjoying the game as well. An obvious acknowledgement of this came when they introduced the inner space pins and game areas. How many of their targeted audience knows anything about "Adventures through Inner Space" BEFORE you saw it in VMK? How many of you 8-14 yr olds still have no clue what it is? :rotfl2:
Now, I realize there are also some adults who have never had the pleasure of going to DLR who might not have been familiar with it either. My point is that I believe they added that as something for us non 8-14 yr old players to enjoy reminiscing over. I for one was thrilled to see it added, it was on my list of favorites growing up.. so much fun to see that eye staring at you as you entered the microscopic world in your atommobile.. :magnify:

If you still have no clue what I'm talking about.. CLICK HERE for some history. :thumbsup2

As so many of my fellow DISer's have said, the game is only originally targeted to the 8-14 age group. No where does it say that younger or older people cannot play. :)

I, for one, started playing after I found this forum and saw all the fun everyone was having. I also have been unable to visit a park in a really long time and sought to have a little bit of the parks come to me. :)

And, VMK is supposed to be based on the parks. Quoted from Walt himself,
"To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."
and:
"We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun- together."

Why would this not also apply to VMK? ;)

This was said by Roy O. Disney on October 1, 1971......

"Walt Disney World is tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney... and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entire Disney organization that made Walt Disney's dream come true.

May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place... a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn -- together."

So you see, the Magic Kingdom (virtual as well) is for anyone, no matter what your age!

Thank You Walt!!

I'm one of the "old folk" that plays VMK. My take on the 8-14 line is that the game is developed for that age range, ie that group can learn to play the games and do other things available in the game without too much help from parents. Due to the dictionary and other safety measures, it is safe to leave an 8yo at the computer playing VMK alone for a bit. That by no way means that older people won't enjoy the game. There are plenty of things for people of all ages to do.

No no, you got it all wrong I mean I doesn't bother me, I think its wicked adults play but I thought if you had kids and work it might be hard to have spare time to play VMK

Well that is another thing all together! :lmao:

As an adult for many years I have learned that sometimes you have to give up some things to have fun at others. What I gave up was being an active participant in the rec.arts.disney.parks newsgroup (reading over 100 messages on an average day and replying to a few of them), quite a few of my daily visits to some part of Walt Disney World, and about 2 hours of sleep a night.

Sleep? What's that?

I Dis at work, and VMK at night ;)

I love all things Disney. VMK is my way of "visiting" Disneyland and WDW when I can't be there. I have become friends with people of all ages and I think that's wonderful. :goodvibes

It is what I sometimes get from 3am (when Dis really slows down) till 9:45am (up for VMK opening).

I agree that it can be for ppl older than 14. But I've seen some ppl in their signature that says "I'm even ear" I can't believe that ppl under 8 would be playing this. I'm not saying it's not right. But with taken and baby stuff can get to these younger kids heads. I just don't think that taken and baby stuff shouldn't be allowed for such small ages.

No effence but I saw some adults play VMK and I knew I saw somewhere that it was for kids under 14. (I'm 12) So can someone clear that up for me and if your an adult can you tell me why you play?

Because some adults are still kids in there heart! And they appreciate the magic that what Walter Elias Disney brought to every family, and maybe just because they want to.

NOT TO BE MEAN....but i think it is super weird for a grownup to stay home all day and play on a virtual kid game...strange... :confused3 as my brother would say GET A LIFE...

Its not just a virtual kid game, there are tons of things to do on there! Way more than people can imagine.

I'm a stay-at-home Mom, too. We have heard of VMK for a while, but just got around to going online. I started to protect my daughter and to help her with her quests. A lot of the quests are just too hard for a nine year old to figure out. Some are too hard for an adult to figure out! My daughter is homeschooled so we both might be on during the day, but we limit our time online. I will probably continue to stay on because it is fun and because there is no way I would allow my daughter to be on without supervision. There is just too much weird stuff going on online. I feel Disney is open for all ages and therefore vmk is as well. In fact, some of us older folks have to work harder at the games than the younger ones:)

i don't think it weird "kids" older than 14 play this game, some of them are weird as a person (like Front, Skater, and Crazy ;) ), heck i am one of them, i am going to college this fall. I started this game back in beta, when i was surfing the dis one day, heck disney game, like the magic kingdon, free, what the heck? Couple days after starting, I saw alot of other dis were playing too (the start of the vmk boards was on the community boards, scary place). Though at the time, i thought most of them were the dis kids, then came vmk boards, most were older than me.... i was like awesome, then i tried to get my mom on this, hoping she would like it....well that didn't turn out...

Some of us grown ups have wonderful lives yet still find plenty of time to have fun playing VMK. :)

Some of us grown ups have already had wonderful lives and have retired from them thus leaving plenty of time to play online games. :)

Some of us grown ups have illnesses or disabilities that prevent us from leaving the house much so being on line is a major part of our daily life. :)

I fit into all three of the above categories. I've been playing online games since I was in college. I don't work anymore but sitting in front of a computer for several hours a day is second nature to me so I started playing online games. Even though I spend a lot of time on the computer, I still find plenty of time to have hobbies and spend time with my family and friends. And you know what? My doctors encourage me to play certain types of computer and online games. Some games help preserve your mental acuity, others help you have some sort of social life when you aren't able to leave the house, therefore keeping you from isolating yourself. Those games can be very helpful to me at times.
