SWA is coming to our town so I have been trying to read up about them. One thing I have seen over and over is that they will issue a credit if their airfare goes down. How does this work? I assume you have to ask for it? Or is it automatic? On a related note, how does this work if you book on points? Since the point redemption is based on the dollar-cost of the price, are you eligible for a "refund" of your points if the fare goes down?

I just got the SWA Visa and the 50,000 points, plus I transferred my 2.5 A+ credits which added another 3,000 points. I'm hoping to use them for our trip in November. I just wish I knew what the times are going to be. Right now, the non-stop return departs at 10am. I loathe the idea of getting up at 5:30am to go home:headache:. I may opt for a return with a layover on another airline, even if it means I have to pay for it, if it means I don't have to be at the DME stop at 7ampopcorn::.

You have to modify your reservation to get the money or points back. They will not do it automatically. If you paid with money on a wanna get away fare, the credit will be good for 1 year from the original ticket purchase date. If you use points, the points go back into your account with no restrictions.

OP, are you sure the Air Tran credits transferred to your RR account as points? When I transferred mine, they became RR credits, as in the old system. Perhaps because your RR acct is new, there's no transitioning from credits to points. (This is unrelated to the merger with AT. SWA changed its RR system a few years ago.)

If you find a better fare, go under "change air reservation" but simply choose your same flight. The funds are stored with your res # so don't lose that. I have rebooked flights with points for lower fares and the points are refunded back to your RR acct. Easy peasy. :thumbsup2
