Due to a point shortage, I plan to book 2 of the 4 of us on points and the other two using cash. I have a RR account so one of the cash tickets will be for me. Do I need to create a RR account for my DD9 before I book her ticket with cash? There is very little chance that we will cancel, but if we do, and rebook later, will she need a RR account in order to access the ticketless travel funds?

Thanks!

If you cancel a flight all the person needs to access their travel funds is the Reservation # of the cancelled flight. There is no need to become a Rapid Reward member to access those funds. However as bumbershoot said have your DD become a Rapid reward member so that she can collect the points. If she isn't going to fly enough to use the points her points, not travel funds, can be transferred to another person's Rapid reward account.

OMG... I never thought of the fact that I could transfer the points into my account! Thanks!

There is a fee to transfer, but hey...it's free points just sitting there. We have RR accts for every family member.

It might be more cost effective to buy points into your account then book everyone on points. First… if you cancel a ticket bought on points, they go back into your account with no expiration and no name tied to them, unlike the travel voucher money that has to be used within the year by the person to whom the ticket was originally sold. Also, right now SW is doing a 40% bonus on any points that you buy, gift, or transfer. I haven't looked too far into it yet (but asked about it here) but it looks like if you buy 10,000, they give you 14,000. Pretty good deal, IMO!

Does anyone know what the transfer fee is?

I looked at that but it looks like it would be about $100 more per ticket to buy the points I need so I don't think it will work in my situation.

Bummer! I'm thinking about transferring points from DH's account to mine. I think it'll cost about $60 and I'll earn an additional 24000 points. That doesn't sound possible.. I'd better check my math!

ETA: BAD MATH!!! Off by a decimal place :crazy2:… too bad
