ok, so i applied for my dd passport in beg of dec and they kept her birth cert. Now, i realize going to bufFALO airport i did not require her a passport. But i felt better knowing, however, we are leaving beg of Feb and it has been 30 working days. I finally got through on phone and was told it still not processed. Worst case sceniaro, i have a passport for me but DD has no birth certificate?? Will i get through customes with a receipt showing Passport canada has her original birth certifcate. i only have SIN health card. The service center told me beg of Dec i should have in 20 working days, now passport office suggesting i apply for another birth certificate???? another added expense. i think if they should have announced the delays before i applied for one. Right now they are saying it could be upto 3x wait. But at the time i applied it was only 20 days. 5 weeks later they change the rules, doesn't seem right!

It's not worth any problems you may have at the border with customs. I would apply for another birth certificate. It's always good to have an extra one just in case something happens to the original.

There must be a way to get an expedited Certificate for your trip.

The passport delay is not uncommon. We finally received ours 2 days ago and we had everything mailed to passport office by Nov 29. We had to call 3 times (you know how hard it is to get through) just to ensure they were working on it. We are just lucky that they processed it (opened the packages) on time.

My advice would be to get a new birth certificate to avoid any possible hassles at the border.

We just got two of our four passports on Friday. We dropped ours off at our Member of Parliament's Office on December 6th. I know all four have been processed because all four charges have come onto our Visa. I don't know why only two were delivered, but hopefully the other two will come this week.

As for you, I think I would try getting the birth certificate. If you go to your Member of Parliament's office they can do an expediated one for you. We had to this for my youngest dd back in 2004. That was the year that they got majorly backed up issuing b.c's and we were leaving to go to Florida in two weeks. We had it issued to us within the week. I think it would be worth the money just to not be stressing about whether she will get accross the border without any delays. Peace of mind sometimes costs money!! ;)

If you live in Ontario you can apply for the birth certificate online and they guarantee a quick turnaround on the delivery (unlike our OHIP cards which arrived three weeks after the last ones had expired).

If I were you, I'd head straight to your local MPP with all your documentation. They often intervene in situations like this.

2 business days (plus purolator shipping) to get a rush BC :)

do you know how long these take and how much is a replacemtn? also, when i ask for a replacement do i say i lost my first one?

I do not know the price(I forget) however you can pay a little extra and have your BC in 2 days, just need to tell them why you need it faster and you will have no problem. I did it with my son in June
