Sorcerer Pass - When to buy?

We currently have 10 day tickets that we bought through a friend so that she could get the commission with plans to upgrade to the Sorcerer Pass once we scanned in.

Does anyone know if we can apply the tickets to the AP before going by calling MS?

We are going M-TH but just in case we need to make reservations for MK it would make it easier a little farther out than within 2 days or so.
I hope so and think you should be able to, but I’d call MS to be sure. No reason not to upgrade now, unless you need time to save up the $.

We are moving from a spring (Jan/April) 8 day (6 day tix) to 1st week Nov which is $2957.14 for 2 adults and 2 kids. For the upcoming Jan 2025 DCL cruise, we are going to go into park 1 day before and after which is $751.90 (per day) which is a ~ $500 savings and I get PH option. This means I can hit up Pooh breakfast on check-out. :) I mean, it's not a huge savings but it gives me opportunity to go into park even on days off just for dinner/fireworks. It's still a savings even if Disney allows me to buy a 2-day ticket but that's another debate. :)

I am much more inclined to give Disney much more money if there's downstream savings. This is why I didn't hesitate to buy 150 more points (still not sure why?) because of long term value. I wish they did the same for ticket or maybe Mickey is always 5 steps in front of me.

You can purchase Sorcerer Pass “vouchers” any time now, and they can be activated when you visit WDW in January. The one year of use will not begin until you use them for the first time to activate them. For Sorcerers purchased through DVC, they should be linkable to your My Disney Experience accounts in advance of your visit, and also may activate when you first tap in at one of the park gates. However, it sometimes requires a visit to Guest Relations at the park entrance to activate, if proof of eligibility to purchase Sorcerers needs verification. (When we did ours in April 2023, purchased through DVC Member Services, verification was done over the phone at the time of purchase, so they activated when we first visited. We let those expire this past spring and purchased new vouchers online that we will activate during our next visit in January. We expect to have to confirm eligibility in order to activate these.)
so its possible to buy DVC sorcerer's pass as a christmas gift for my kids, but not activate them until our trip in aug 2025 (also paying 2024 prices for 2025 use). They would then be good until aug 2026?

I don't know if this has been covered, but you can get LLSP (so I assume LLMP also) with an "unactivated" Sorcerer Pass voucher. I bought one 6 months ago, and have resort reservations this weekend. The pass won't be active until the first day I enter the park. However, the system still let me book LLSP 7 days before check-in, even though technically I don't really have a valid, active pass right now. Until the moment I got my LLSP, I didn't know whether or not the system would allow me to.

Yes, if you buy now you have a year to start using them (first park entry), and they’re good for a year from date of first use.

Yes, the system just looks to see whether you’ll have valid admissions for those dates, and it counts a not-yet-activated AP as valid as long as it’s within the year from purchase date.

Yes, and I saw a news story that Disneyland just raised prices, so a WDW price increase might be percolating through the system. Better to buy the passes now and activate later so a price increase doesn’t spoil the fun.

Correct. If you buy the AP today, you can wait a full year before the AP would turn into credit instead of an AP. Once activated, the pass is valid for one year from the date of first park entry.

I have seen reports that if your first trip extends beyond a year from your AP purchase with a yet to be activated pass, you could run into problems booking LLMP for dates beyond the one year mark from purchase because Disney's system assumes your pass no longer exists after the one year mark unless it has been activated at a park. Personally, I waited until one year prior of the day after my future trip ends to buy my AP to ensure I can book LLMP for every day of my trip 7 days before the start of my trip.
