I am so bummed. I had 260 dollar roundtrip tickets, Greensboro to Burbank -non stop June 23-28 on Skybus. They went out of business yesterday. Any ideas on decent airfares from the east coast to the west coast?

is southwest a possible airline? if so they are usually pretty cheap... good luck!! :goodvibes

Decent airfares seem to be harder and harder to come by these days, especially from coast to coast.

However, it IS cheaper now than it was in December...I couldn't go home to Washington State for Christmas because tickets were almost $900 per person round trip. I got 2 round trip nonstop tickets for $900 for this upcoming July (JetBlue).

I find that if you can fly midweek you can get cheaper flights. Also, don't rely only on search engines like Expedia or Orbitz. Usually you can find a better deal on the airline's own site. It's tedious to check 15 websites but sometimes you can find good stuff. Also, if you have a little flexibility you can try different airports and times of day and sometimes there are differences of hundreds of dollars.

Good luck!

Try Kayak. They check most of the airlines websites, and will show the lowest price. Except Southwest.

 I'm so sorry. This has been a BAD week for airlines.

I think all the major airlines recently advertised an east coast-west coast sale. You can put a fare alert to your e-mail in travelocity when the fares move down so you don't have to check every day. Also, check on travelzoo for the lastest airline deal announcements. I just paid for a round trip ticket from Chicago to John Wayne for $259 with taxes so still some good deals out there. Good luck!

That's horrible. That's the third airlines this week to go bankrupt. I hope you do get your money back and that you can find some decent airfares. I like to use kayak.com to search for airfares and hotels.

You can possibly get your money back IFFFFF you paid with a credit card within 60 days. You can dispute it with your cc if it was purchased 60 days ago.

just remember that when you kayak to search southwest seperatly

The website says that we can go through our credit card company and the tickets were bought 57 days ago. I'll try Southwest and continental and kayak

So far this week, we've lost Aloha Airlines, ATA, Champion Air, skybus, and Sun Country just announced they will no longer be flying after May 31. That's 1 major and 4 discount airlines going belly up in less than a week. It's a horrible time for the airline industry and passengers. Papers here are reporting that we have lost 770,000 seats in and out of Hawaii w/ the demise of Aloha and ATA. :sad2: People that live here are going to eat it when it comes to finding low fare options. I've been looking and the day after Aloha and the day before ATA went belly up, I was still able to find decent airfares to LAX or LAS - around $383. The day after ATA went belly up, airfares skyrocketd to over $1000 to LAS from HNL. We'll be feeling it here, as so much of what we do here is dependent on tourism, for a long, long time.:sad1:

I will get my money back but it may take up to 60 days and I just got confirmations of my ticket to LA via Southwest for only $200 dollars more for the total than Skybus. Does mean I get to drive to Raleigh and back and also means a change in dates so i'll be in California June 19-25.

Thanks for the support and the ideas of who to try. They worked.
