Soooooooo, who's right?

Paula Deen is the cook you are thinking of. She makes great food but I really suspect she is drunk for her show sometimes.

:lmao:

As far as cooking like Alton, I did watch him make bread last night and figured out what I did wrong the last time. I might try his method on that. Most of the time though he is WAY too complicated. I mean his recipe for pizza dough took at least TWO DAYS! If I want pizza, I want it tonight, not a week from now! RR on the other hand while I don't learn much nor am I nearly as entertained as watching Good Eats, I do try her recipes 'cause they are easy for the average cook like me.

I love Alton. RR is ok, but a bit to perky - and I hate that she says "EVOO- thats extra virgin olive oil". Either use the acronym or say the words, not BOTH. I do like that she cooks things that are quick and easy. Paula Dean makes some stuff that looks good, but I can't stand that she is always shoving food in her mouth, over the serving bowl. Her bites are way to big, with food falling off the fork. *shudder*

As for the mushrooms, I wash them right when I'm going to use them.

I think Rachel is irritating and I'd believe Alton over her any time since he uses science to back up what's he's saying.

That drives me nuts, too! Plucks my nerves every time I hear it

I have tried wiping & no way do they come clean. I power wash my mushrooms!

Oh, Tag Fairy! Over Here! :lmao:

That and Alton being part of a Jamie and Adam show would be HILARIOUS!

I never even noticed that until someone pointed it out awhile ago on the DIS. Was it you??? :rotfl: Now, everytime she says it I just have this thing in my head telling me that someone on the DIS is going crazy. And it is annoying! I did catch one time that she just stuck with the EVOO and I was waiting for the explanation.

Mushrooms- I'm a washer, but I do it really fast and with really cold water because maybe then, the mushrooms won't notice what I'm doing. ;)

Alton- *loooove him!* I learn so much from watching that show. I took notes on his coffee episode and I went out and bought beans and a grinder and made the best coffee I've ever had in my life - and much cheaper than DD or Starbucks. And his chocolate chip cookies "The Thin" are my favorite!!! Although, I have to say Tyler Florence REALLY melts my butter  .

Paula Deen- I love her! She's like everyone's cool motherly aunt. I love how she shamelessly uses butter and sugar and deep fryers. It's definitely like food porn to someone on a diet like me, lol. And as far as drinking, if anyone hits the bottle before his show, it's DEFINITELY Emeril!

Rachel Ray- I liked her a lot at first- I love perky! :cheer2: But I think she's saturating the market now, which exaggerates any of her traits. You know how you have a great friend but if you move in with them, the little quirks start to wear on you? It's like that. We're up to like three or four shows, a zillion books, a magazine AND a talk show in the works. But, I have to say I probably make more of her recipes than anyone else's. Most of them are healthy, fast and taste really, really good. And she always wears black pants, like me. I own twelve pairs of black pants (actually 10, I just donated two older pairs) and I imagine she has more than I do.

Anyway, Alton's my final word on food. :teacher: He's got the history, the research, the science, and he's really funny.

On her newest shows she doesn;t do the EVOO Extra virgin olive oil thing but she has started calling her work bowl the WB.

Alton is the MAN.

I think I have seen mushrooms in pre washed packages? I just made sauce the other day with mushrooms, and I'm pretty sure mine were prewashed.
They were nice and white, seemd ok to me.

What about Ina Garten?

Her name seems fake to me- like "in a garden".

And her extravagant meals in her extravagant home (s) in the Hamptons set with (different each time) extravagant china can seem a bit pretentious at times. (Although, she does have a couple great recipes, and her home is beautiful)

And I hate to suggest this, but her husband doesn't seem into her. I don't get a couple-love-romantic vibe from them at all.

I love Jeffrey her husband. He isn't on too much tho.

Ina reminds me of my MIL. I have a love/hate relationship. I use to hate my MIL, now I love her to bits. I watch Ina b/c she reminds me of my MIL. I wish my MIL was loaded like Ina. :rotfl:

Ok.. I am ROTFLMAO now.... Paula Deen's Dirty Down Home Cookin! LOL

Jamie and Bobby's Road Tasted... I have to say I did not think I would like this show.. but Dang I never miss it now!! btw... anybody else think that Bobby got "out-ed" ?????while in Moss Landing the chef/owner said. (something like)."this is the brother without any girlfriends" :scratchin

I wash my mushrooms...right before I use them... good grief it would take Forever to wipe off 2 pounds of button 'shrooms... and I would feel gross eatting gritty 'shrooms.

Alton's the myth-buster. Go with him.
I used to love Alton more until he said two things that just made me

First was to rinse the pasta to keep it from cooking. Sorry, but I have done it both ways and if you rinse, you don't get the sauce to stick as well! Plus does it really matter when most of the time I bake the pasta (baked dishes and mac & cheese) more anyway?

The other was when he said he has never had a home made cake that could rival a boxed cake :faint:
Sorry, I tested his theory and got the most moist cake out there so I could practice icing... it was the wost thing in the world to bake & work with.
His load of crap about the scientific concoctions they have for boxed cakes being far superior to home made didn't hold water with me.

So... in the end, I have learned Alton is a great guy... pretty bright too, but he is not the end all be all of cooking.

I am starting to wonder about Paula Dean and her 'nipping' during taping. That cracks me up...she is a little 'ditzy' at times.LOL. But her sons.......wow.....i'd love to cook with them. They make my kitchen HOT!!!!! Schew!!!!!!!! Wonder if I can ditch DH and hunt them up at F & W fest??????? Anyone going to see them?
