So just an FYI! No more segmented dining for DVC anymore as of 8:45am!!!

Did this really just start today? That is awful! ..... and very bad timing for me!

I was going to call to add on the dining plan to a reservation.

OK, here is a question regarding this new change.

I have a reservation for 3 nights, 1st and 3rd nights are booked on points. Night #2 is a cash reservation.
These reservations are linked and have one reservation number.

Could I get dining plan on nights 2 and 3 only?

What makes me angry was that there was no announcement, no advanced warning.

We're happier using TIW.:thumbsup2

I agree....much less drama, drinks and appetizer included in discount...but it's just another time where DVC announces it when people have been making plans that it would be allowed. It's really nasty thing to do to members, particularly since it starts right away.

So we could do this for all of a year? Another ball drop on the communication front.

Yes, I've been following the other tread. Since I don't think this was ever officially announced when it began, I can understand whey it's not officially announced that it didn't work. I tried it in January for ONE night and it was a mess with many visits to the front desk and lost credits. I tired it for one night in May and it worked just fine. I was going to add it for one night next month, but not sure if I can now, even though my one night was booked separately from my other reservation. I plan to call in the afternoon. I don't know why we would expect any prior announcements as there never are. They never really announced the loss of the valet perk...not sure why we should be surprised. Maybe new management would be different.....guess not.

I was wondering that myself, I don't recall an official announcement saying you could do it. Was it just something that got out by word of mouth when the new computer system came in?

Also what I was thinking - it was never officially announced, so not sure why they would need to officially announce that you couldn't do it. I'm thinking it was a money loser for WDTC (note - not for DVC). One of the ways they make money on the DDPs is because people don't use all their credits. Segmented plans don't generally have that issue - people very carefully and intentionally planned those segmented reservations to squeeze every penny out of the plan credits.

Not that different than those who were adding the Platinum or Premium plans to regular reservations for one night only. Disney will not be allowing that for 2012 either - now it's a 3 night minimum with tickets + rack rate room to add those high end plans.

I think the only benefit to Disney for the DVC segmented DDP thing was in goodwill with the DVC members who liked it. And I don't think they really care about that - there's no measurable profit tied to that goodwill. (Which all sounds cynical, but I don't mean it that way, just pragmatically.)

it was never promoted or offered as a feature. It never seemed to me to be something that was intended as a feature of DVC dining plan reservations. It seemed more to be a bi product of the new reservation upgrades that someone noticed and it quickly became used more and more.

I've never done it, but it sounds like a major pain in the butt in terms of the reservation process. It also kills the one of the main purposes of the dining plan, which is to "capture" dining spending for all parties for the length of stay. I am not surprised if they have nixed this.

So what Happens if you do not Have all the parties staying for your entire visit? Do you have to pay for the dining plan for their entire stay? That would not make sense now seem fair.

Assuming this works the same way as it does for package and AP guests, yes.

How is it not fair? That is how it has always been, for both cash guests and DVC, until this little short period where DVC members could segment their reservations.

Rather than merge this thread with the other thread on this subject (and confuse everyone), I'm just going to close this one. Feel free to continue the discussion in this thread:

No more segmented vacations for ddp

Thanks all!
