With the new air regulations banning liquids and being more strict... has everyone planned an alternate route for their dress to make it to Orlando or is everyone still mostly taking the dress on the plane?

Also- I suppose the anniversary layer of the cake will now have to be shipped home since all food and liquids are banned. Anyone considered this?

You can still take your dress on the plane. In fact, now you have plenty of room in the overhead bins for it. I was just working this past week (I am a Flight Attendant) and I had two brides on my flight. They didn't have any trouble with their dresses. I think it is the best time to be traveling with a dress because of all the room in the overhead bins. On a full flight we still have tons of empty overhead bins... it is so weird. If you are traveling from overseas that maybe a different story, but if you are from inside this country then you should have no problems with your dress. What airline are you traveling on?

It is a Delta non-stop flight from Knoxville, Tn to Orlando (a pretty quick flight). I had at one point arranged for my mom to bring the anniversary cake layer back with her since she would be coming back home much sooner than me and my soon to be DH. I dont think that will work now though. :( :scared1:

I know you can take food on the plane. Just not liquids. When I have gone through security I haven't really paid attention to see if they let people go through with food. I just see them come on the plane with sandwiches, pizza, and salads. ALthough I did just see someone walking around with a small cooler but don't know what was in it. I go to work on Tuesday and will ask the TSA at the security check point about anniversary layer of the cake. I'll let you know what I find out. You may want to call Delta and ask them about the cake and your dress. I work for Southwest and I can only tell you what is happening with us.

I'm taking southwest from philly to orlando. I think sw has the friendliest group of people working for them. I'm interested in finding out about the cake as well!

Hey ladies :)

I travel from coast-to-coast almost weekly for business & for school and HAVE brought food on the plane. You will only be stopped for liquids, and, in addition, there are a ton of law suits etc. being filed because of all of the restrictions and I would not be surprised if they begin lifting them in the near future. They have already been downgraded from what they were 2 weeks ago.

I would not worry about the cake at all.. i am one of the people who has walked on with food ;) If it helps at all keep in mind that food can be purchased in the terminals once you clear security and that food (but not liquid) can be brought on the plane.

Your wedding cake will be fine but as it presently stands don't even try getting through with lip gloss.. I had to throw away $125 worth of Dior make-up the last time I flew.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

I am still back and forth on the issue... I'm still scared it'll get dirty or wrecked in some manner if I bring it with me. OTOH, I guess it wouldn't be horrible if it was in my checked luggage. UPS is still a strong option, though.
If I do bring it as a carry-on, I'm going to keep it in a clear plastic hanging bag, so there won't be much question about what it is.
All I know is, I have to make a decision very soon!!

Cheeks605- We're flying out of Philly too!

You can definitely bring your cake on the plane. DF's little bro is doing a semester abroad in China. I baked him a cake in the shape of China 2 nights ago. He left yesterday morning, he walked right on w/ the cake, and it sat on his lap. However, during the 16 hr flight, he and his friends managed to eat it all  I hope no one eats your wedding cake!

From almost every bride and groom that I have talked to i have heard its not worth saving the top layer.
That after a year it tastes like *** and its more trouble than its worth.
My DF and I are planning on going back to disney for our ani next year since weve been going for all our anis of dating.
And getting a recreation made so it will be just like having the top again but not tasting like butt.

Also disney told us that its a pain to save it as well and that they dont recomend saving it either (at least that what my wedding planner toldus).

besides its an excuse to go back to disney for your ani! :woohoo:

OMG!! We had the top layer of our cake professionally wrapped by my moms friend who is a wedding cake baker and after a year in the freezer, defrosting it exactly as she told us to, it tasted like a brick! Uuugghhh...so not worth saving it for a year...maybe eat it on your week anniversary or maybe a month.

i don't see why there would be a problem bringing your dress on the plane. there's no liquid in it.

the cake thing i don't really know what you would do. i don't trust airlines at all. i've had them break many good valuable things. and another time i got selected for a "random security check" which was funny considering all of the other "random security checks" were young adults between the ages of 18 and 24.....ironic right? and the threw all of my things on the floor(literlary threw them) and then threw them all back in the bag without a care in the world.

i don't like planes in general, and now it's all a big hassle. i'm beginning to think "screw it, i'll just drive"

Just wanted to let you know that it is the TSA not the airlines that does the security checks and they are the ones who threw all your things on the floor... not the airlines. The TSA and the airlines are different things.

I really don't see much of hassle in traveling right now. All you have to do is check your bags if you want to take shampoo and other liquids with you. The security lines are shorter and faster because you don't have to wait for all the bags to be screened. There maybe a longer wait to check your bags but then you don't have to lug them around the airport. Also people are boarding faster because they are not standing in the middle of the aisle trying to shove their overstuffed carry-on bag in the overhead bin. Also you should see how fast people get off the plane ... even when it is full. I LOVE IT!

I am 100% sure you can take your dress on the airplane since I helped two brides this past week put thier dress in an overhead bin. There are so many open overhead bins that not one person tried to put anything in the bin besides the dress. They had the whole overhead bin. I am sure it will remain like this for awhile, so take your dress on the plane with you. This is the best time to be traveling with a wedding dress.

ok sorry, the TSA did it. but still, i understand that they HAVE to do these checks, but it's rude to just throw things around, don't you think?

and airlines still loose luggage all the time. you always hear "pack your carry-on for the first 24 hours just in case" but now we can't even do that! so what happens if the airline looses all of my luggage? i'm stuck with pretty much nothing. and espically for Disney's ME when it can take up for 4 hours for your luggage to get to your room. what if you get there in the morning or at night and that's when you take your shower but "opps we don't allow soap or shampoo on our planes anymore"......honestly.

they have the technology to detect liquid bombs, they announced that on CNN not long ago. i just don't get why they're not using it.

I appreciate that so much! Please do let me know when you find out.

I just got back from work and the TSA told me that you can bring your cake layer with you. The only thing you can't bring with you is liquids. This includes the drinks you buy on the other side of security. I feel so bad taking away people's expensive Starbucks drinks on the plane. Some people don't know you can't bring them on the plane and some people try to hide them while they board. I feel so bad but I can get in trouble if I don't take them away. Most people understand but it has been hard.

On the postive work note ....
I had a group of girls going to San Diego for a bachelorette party yesterday. It was a blast. They were having a great time. We introduced her to the whole plane and everyone congratulated and wished her luck on her upcoming wedding. I also made her a crown out of peanuts and stir sticks with toliet paper veil. A little girl who was traveling with her Mom told her she wants to fly Southwest Airlines when she gets married so she can have peanut crown. It was cute.

Of course, we gave all the girls around of free drinks which made them all scream and giggle louder. The poor passengers around them. It was so much fun even if I was worn out going back and forth. The best thing is they really got me excited for my own bachelorette party and wedding. I have been to stressed out about the whole thing.

I am shipping my dress to Carolyn Allens, and they will be delivering it to my room and pressing it there.

I am having these nightmares about them losing my dress, or steaming it instead of pressing it. (It's silk, and if you steam silk it puckers up and turns into bubble wrap.) The whole thing is enough to give a control freak (like myself) major hives.

Maybe I will take it with me on the plane (Southwest--they are da best airline ever) and then I'll stay up the night before pressing it myself, muttering under my breath about why I have to be so ridiculous.

All I know is that if anything happens to My Dress there will be you-know-what to pay. I am like <this> close to turning into a total bridezilla. Lord, I'm ashamed of myself.

Just eat the cake at WDW and don't worry about it. It won't taste good at all by the 1st anniv.

And that reminds me of a story.

We have some friends that got married as soon as he graduated from Annapolis. Well, you know the Navy. They lived in about 10 different places in a year, dragging the anniversary layer with them to every place. The husband keeping it on ice through the desert southwest--the wife obsessing that the cake would thaw--I mean there are plenty of BABIES don't get that pampered and spoiled, fussed about and worried over.

Finally the big anniversary day came, and all the neighbors gathered for the party. The wedding cake top tier would be the centerpiece of that southern bride's tradition lovin' selfs Big Party. At a re-creation of the Big Day Cake Cutting, the Groom placed his hand on his Bride's, they cut into the carefully thawed cake...and it didn't slice.

What the...??

Turns out the top tier was an elaborately decorated piece of....

.....styrofoam.

:rotfl2:

So, yeah. Just eat the cake there. Order room service coffee and have your cake for breakfast. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm sick unto death of dieting, working out, doing ab crunches, triceps push downs, cardio this, and cardio that, and bench press whaddyacallems. So during that honeymoon week at least, I'm not counting a single calorie, carb, or fat gram.

:smokin:

Im not saving my top layer for our Anniversary either - so many people have said it doesnt keep well so im going to enjoy it whilst i can!!
