Sony Selling?

As much as I want them to I honestly can’t see it happening unless in some way/shape/form they can without the DOJ in the way
I’m assuming by DOJ you mean dept of justice and antitrust law (let me know if I have my abbreviations wrong. Because then it sort of makes my post irrelevant lol). I can’t see that being an issue if it’s just those rights

You are correct. I may be a little pessimistic but I don’t trust that they wouldn’t see this as a monopoly. I may be wrong since I am not an expert when it comes to these things, but we will see. It could be possible since it’s just rights and not studios, but again I don’t know. First we’d have to see if they are even interested given the amount of money they just spent on FOX.

I think it might be alright because they’d just be acquiring the rights to a character that already is associated with one of their properties. I could also be seeing it a little optimistically :confused3

Disney won’t be allowed to buy fox and Sony but rights may be possible.

That’s suicide on their part financially, considering before jumanji their only non spider-man movies to gross more than $250 million in America were Skyfall and Men in Black. And they can’t even bank on skyfall anymore considering they don’t have the bond rights anymore. Next most successful movie? The original ghostbusters at $229 million domestic. Compared to disney that’s not that great of a track record. They haven’t found that many big successes so I think selling Spider-Man is bad on their part

Last I read, Apple were seriously looking to take on the James Bond rights. Now that’s not Sony anymore, their main movie IP is Spider-Man.

As always, I’d love Disney at aquire the whole of Sony pictures like 21st century Fox but there’s no change it would get approved.

Sony has debated leaving film altogether from time to time. I've wondered it they merge Sony Studios into Disney or Comcast in 5-10 years.

Homecoming wasn't as successful as they wanted — more successful than both Andrew Garfield films, less successful than all three Tobey Mcguire movies (significantly less successful after you calculate inflation) and under-performed versus the Marvel Studio films.. I could see them deciding to sell the IP back and they decide they just can't find the right formula for it. Remember, its a split IP, they don't own the character or control most of the publishing, licensing, and merchandising rights, they just control the film rights.
