Does anyone own one of these gadgets? They're about the size of a thin paperback book, and hold the text of around 80 books. Plus it's expandable, and can play MP3s too. They use "e-Ink" technology, and it's supposed to be just like reading a book, even in bright sunlight. And the battery goes weeks before needing a charge.

I'm thinking about asking for one of these things for a retirement gift from my job. I intend to travel a lot (and spend plenty of time in bright sunlight:banana:), and it'd be nice to load it up with a lot of books and hit the road. But I'm a little skeptical, and want to hear from owners.

I had thought about buying one of these. I didn't because it does just one thing. Instead I bought a pda , it has a smaller screen but does so many other things then a hold and read books. Also with the mobile pc I bought I have downloaded two different e-readers , I didn't like the way the first one " looked " I figure you wouldn't be able to do that with a sony specific reader.

I heard a radio commercial about these the other day. They do sound pretty interesting. If you do get one, make sure you check into the free books that are available. According to the commercial there was a web site you could go to (sorry I don't know what it is) that said you could download hundreds (if not thousands) of free books, besides the ones you can pay for.
