Sony Handycam DCR-SR85

Question for all of you:

We have the camera listed above in the title...problem is, we don't have a window based computer, yes we are MAC users and loving it, except my iMovie won't allow me to import any movies from the Sony's hard drive (I'm guessing b/c my iMovie is version iMovie HD 6.0.3....any suggestions on getting this working other than the obvious of upgrading to iLife08?

Sorry to hear it... we have a mac because my wife bought into the mac marketing of easy to use... well it is easy to use but only for what it does.... and with the limited video editing software that was out there... we ended up using a dedicated Windows machine for our video... the mac is now passed on to the kids that seem to love it.

Frankly I think your best option if you want to do movies at home is scrap the mac and get a windows machine.. you'll find you have more options that way.

Personally, I upgraded to iLife '08 and LOVE it. iMovie is so much easier to use now. However, my Sony Handycam is not compatible, it is about 4 years old, it's a DVD-101. I use iMovie for setting my digital pictures to music and making DVD slideshows for family, friends, etc.

Personally, I missed the Jan '08 Apple keynote and supposedly Steve Jobs recommended a camcorder that works well with iMovie. I have been trying to track down which one he was talking about if anyone knows about that.

Thanks! I figured as much as upgrading it to iLife08, which then, SHOULD be compatible with my digital camcorder (so the apple update page says).

I will NEVER EVER go back to a windows computer...IMO, they're crap. I use one at work and hate it. We do have an old Sony Vaio laying around, but it's junk and I'd rather not deal with it.

Oh, well iLife08 here I come.
