Question for you experienced two body photographers.

I am currently shooting with a Nikon D90, but have an opportunity to purchase an A100 with two lenses for $350.00. I'm wondering if the A100 would make a good second body to carry or if I should stick with Nikons for extra bodies. The lens range for the A100 is 18-75 and 75-300.

I'm thinking (always dangerous) that I could carry the A100 with the 75-300 and use the D90 with my 10-20 or my 35mm.

What do you think? :confused3

I know someone on here has an opinion (or at least some advice?) :)

I have never shot with anything but a Nikon, so maybe someone out here has an opinion on Sony... I would stick with Nikon only since you already have one... That is of course unless the Sony is a great deal in which how can you go wrong... I like the idea you had about carrying the Nikon for wide angle, and the Sony for zoom, but that is going to be a lot carrying 2 cameras all the time... I would rather just get a zoom lens for my Nikon and carry that... But then again, this is only my opinion...

Good advice. See? this is why I ask, so I'll know things like if a "good deal" is really going to be a good deal long term.

I do have the 18-200mm that I can use for the Nikon, so I think I'll just wait and try to pick up a used D40 body somewhere.

Thanks! :)

here's my opinion - why would you want to carry around all that equipment? and why not stick with Nikon if just for lens compatibility? why switch brands?
I think it would be easier to get a wider zoom, (and probably a lot cheaper too!)

I shoot Sony...and they're fine cameras. But I can't think of a reason you should get another brand body than what you already have. It's bad enough having lens lust for one camera...get a different type, and you'll have double lens lust!

Best keeping the lens lust in one family, so both bodies can share the lenses.

I'd recommend the same to a Sony, Pentax, Olympus, or Canon shooter too. Stick with one brand if you go with two bodies.

That's what I'll do then since the overall opinion seems to be to stick with the same brand.

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

I shoot with both Olympus and Sony. I started with Olympus and won a contest at work and received the Alpha 100 as a prize. Since the Sony was free, it's all the extras that adds up. I've been debating lately which system to go with. As with all cameras each system has their own strengths and weaknesses. If I were to do it all over I would go with just one system. It's less confusing and easier on the pocketbook.
