Songs for my DS10 ipod

We leave a week from tomorrow!!

I would like to surprise my DS10 by adding some music to his Ipod. Plus I want to add a movie (he already knows about that).

Question for you.....what is on your DS Ipod??? I want to make sure the songs are appropriate for his age but songs that I know he would enjoy.

Any ideas???

My DS11 loves anything by the Black-Eyed Peas or Lady Gaga. His latest favs are Ima Be by Black-Eyed Peas, Empire State of Mind by Jay-zee/Rhianna, Tik Tok by Ke$ha and Telephone by Lady Gaga/Beyonce. He gets the cleaner version - nothing with explicit warning and always asks me before he adds a song. It depends on what you consider appropriate though. My DS likes to listen to the weekly top 40, so anything near the top would probably be a good choice. He and his friends all hate the Fireflies song though.

To be honest, I think an I-Tunes gift card would be the best surprise for your DS10 - let him choose the songs he would like...

So funny - I just finished downloading new songs for my kids too! Anyway my DS (9 in May) loves the new Kris Allen song, new Adam Lambert songs, and pretty much anything else from Americal Idol past contestants. He also likes Justin Beiber and Big Time Rush (nick show about aspiring teen boy band). All age appropriate I believe. HTH - have fun!

Funny, my DS7 was just listening to Queen this morning on the way in to my office. He hasn't heard much Wierd Al yet, but I know he'd love that, too. He also likes Van Halen, Rush, Michael Jackson and Brian Setzer. But he's not your every day run of the mill kid, either. He also listens (and likes) country music and gosple music as well. He'll listen to pretty much anything, but isn't really in to the more popular stuff the other kids in his class like.

My husband and I have the recent Black Eyed Peas and the Ke$sha album on ours.

If you're tempted to get the album...there may be a few radio edits of a few songs that are okay but those are NOT albums that I would put on my kids players. I don't listen to them on my docking station when they're around.

Why not?? My DD6 loves that song. Is it the alcohol reference?? I just don't think it is an "of couse" to exclude it. Love Song Form a Different Point of View would be my definitely not over Margaritaville. I can think of a few others as well.

On our son's iPod we uploaded U2, Barenaked Ladies (weird name, but seriously great band with lots of fun sons), Heart, Weezer, Peter Gabriel, certain songs from Pearl Jam, Aerosmith and Foo Fighters.. We try to encourage all sorts of music, but are also very careful about lyrics. We actually put a lot of songs from the 80's on the iPod, what can I say my husband and I are kids from the 80's. And my husband had to add plenty of Weird Al.

Trout Fishing in America has some fun songs- DH calls them Wierd Al for the younger, family set. Proper Cup of Coffee and Baby's Got the Car Keys are favorites here.

My son is 5 and loves his mp3 player and this is what he has on there. He loves Black Eyed Peas and almost ALL of the songs from the guitar hero games, so I looked on those and got songs off of them.

I do check the lyrics before I add them, so the songs I listed I do think are appropriate for your 10 yr old.

Thank you so much for all the ideas!! I'm writing all of these down and will have to wait until he goes to bed the night before we leave since he listens to his Ipod so much. It's on my list of things to do..my growing list!

So do mine!! When we drove to WDW in February, the kids kept playing Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" over and over again. DH and I enjoyed it, too, because the song reminds us of one of our favorite movies, "Shaun of the Dead".

As for Weird Al, my kids love "The ebay Song" and "White and Nerdy". The kids almost don't believe me when I tell them that Weird Al has been around for years. "I lost on Jeopardy ... baby ..."

Ha! My boys (10) love It's 5 o'clock Somewhere by Alan Jackson w/ Jimmy Buffet. They think he's "new". LOL

Also on their Ipods - Beer for My Horses, Beer in Mexico, Keg in the Closet, Tequilla Makes her Clothers Fall Off, Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo, etc...... and they aren't alcoholics yet.

But that's not what the OP asked so......

Music is so subjective to the likes and dislikes of an individual. My kids prefer country. A lot of their friends also like country. Some of their favorites are Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. But they also like other genres to an extent. They heard a lot of things for the first time on Guitar Hero and now like the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, etc... One is a big Michael Jackson fan. The other likes movie soundtracks. He doesn't really care for Miley/Hannah Montana, but likes the Bolt soundtrack. He also has music from Camp Rock.

Just thought of something.. My favorite band the Barenaked Ladies also has a children's album out. My son (14) LOVES it.. Actually so does my husband. It has a lot of really funny songs that kids seem to like. Here's a link where you can give it a listen if you feel like it.

my lil girl (3) has a few disney soundtracks, some classic kids songs..
then theres metallica, queen, journey, ACDC, she also LOVES some tom waits and the beatles.
THATS MY GIRL!!!!
of course theres a lot of top 40 stuff we put on there, i think she would lose her mind if she didnt hear boom boom pow 5 times a day.
id rather her listen to almost any rock song as opposed to listening to the raunchy songs on the radio though..
