I've been closely checking Song's website for our trip in October. As of today, the fare dropped from $114 each way to $99 each way. Just wondering, from those who have flown Song out of Newark......... do cheaper fares generally become available at some point or is $99 considered a good rate for them?

Thanks for any help you can offer,
Helene

I just booked 3 seperate trips flying Southwest out of Macarthur Airport in Long Island... It's about a 90 minute drive from Newark, and 9 bucks a day to park. But for my 2 cents, it's worth the money when saving that much ( 4 people )

It is generally MUCH cheaper to fly Song out of JFK or even LaGuardia. For much of this year, it is $59 each way. Expand your search to more airports...... $99 each way is average, not too bad, but not great.

I live in central NJ, but have flown my last 5 trips to Orlando out of JFK on either Song or Jet Blue (except for one trip via Spirit out of Atlantci City)

Thank you for the responses.

After reading them, I checked into flying out of JFK. The fare is only $59, but I wonder how much of a hassle it is to get to JFK????? I've never driven into NYC on my own, always take a bus. I live in NE PA. It would be @ a 2 1/2 hour drive to JFK. Newark is @ 2. Philly is also @ 2. Is is diffucult to get to JFK (traffic, parking, etc) or do you use other means of transportation to get to the airport???

Thanks again!

fyi, Transmeridian Airlines is beginning direct service from Allentown (ABE) to Sanford (SFB) beginning in February for $79 one-way. Downside is they don't fly every day (3-4 times per week) and there's only one flight per day.

There is a new service called AirTrain. If you take the LIRR or subway to Jamaica Station, Airtrain will take you directly to the airport. You can always catch a cab. I am not sure how much either one will cost you though.

Now that I look back at your post and see that you live in PA, you may be better off paying the $99 fare. The commute doesn't seem worth it. You will probably spend just as much getting to NY.

If you are coming from PA - definitely fly out of Newark. If you're not used to driving in the city, it could be a real hassle! I live in north central Jersey and always fly out of Newark. One time I had to pick up someone at JFK - never again!

JFK=NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF DRIVING.

how would you be getting to JFK... NJ tpke? Add about $20 for tolls and allowat least an hour from the time you hit the NY state border (Staten Island).

One of the reasons I hate driving when we go on vaction... we need to leave NY - no too bad the worst is usually over once across the Hudson. Returning is the worst... you hit traffic and you feel the vacation wearing off.

Thanks for the insight into flying out of JFK. I assumed as much, but now I will definitely consider the alternatives.

Helene:

If you are flying out of Pennsylvania, you might consider flying out of Leigh Valley Airport (code ABE). It's located between Allentown and Bethlehem. I checked the various choices (JFK, Newark, LaGuardia) and ABE is the cheapest. They have Delta flights that connect in Atlanta and take you to Orlando. Roundtrip fares were about $150, plus you don't have the traffic headache of going to JFK. Lastly, they charge only $60 for a week's parking, which is probably the rate you would get daily at JFK.

The only downside I see is the commuter flight (small jet) and 2 hour layover in Atlanta, but I figure it will give our kids a chance to stretch their feet and burn off some energy. ::MickeyMo

...can you tell me what your experience was with Spirit Air and AC, in general?? Also, how long ago was this?? We are flying out of Atlantic City next month, and I am beginning to get a little worried..... :(

I am considering Atlantic City vs. Newark too because of the difference in price. Except today I saw Spirit prices go UP to almost the same as Continental, Delta, etc. out of Newark. We have until May but I am getting discouraged that we aren't going to find anything under $200/pp. I really don't want to spend $1,000 on airfare!!!

My parents flew Spirit out of AC last summer to South Carolina (we drove) and my mom raves about it. She isn't easy to please, hates flying but said she felt very comfortable there. And she said parking in AC was pretty cheap too. The only thing I don't like is there are only 2 flights a day, 7am is a bit early for me and the 1pm is too late. I wish there was something in the 9am range, but if I can save a few hundred dollars I'll get up early!!

$99 for newark is about as good as it will get. Continental :confused3 is never that cheap anymore. Plus, Song is better all around.

...definitely try ASpirit Air out of AC if I were you. Three weeks ago, I booked it for our trip in 18 days - $68 going and $139 coming back! Not bad for peak season [President's Week!]!! :cool1:

I booked Song out of LGA instead of JFK ( even though its somewhat closer to me) because I feel since its an International airport its bigger and busier and more annoying. I got a great rate of $59.00 each way. I leave LGA 9/23 @ 6:30AM land at MCO 9:15AM (we'll see about that!) then leave MCO 10/1 @ 2:00PM land at LGA 4:30PM. I hope everything goes OK.

I flew SOng last year March time frame. Watched the prices go up and up and finalyy paid Wayyyyyyyyy too much for airfare out of Newark.
I started checking awhile ago and it was about thesame as last year . I refused to pay that kind of money again. So I decided to leave from Hartford and paid 353 for me and my DD with the flights I wanted and Direct on Song. Now I have to drive 2 and a half hours to the airport . But is beats paying 600 dollars each !!!!
