Planning my first vacation to Walt Disney World in 9 years this summer. It will be the first visit for my 6-year-old daughter and 62-year-old mother. During our last visit, my wife and I scoped out the various resorts trying to figure out where we'd like to stay next (she's stayed at the Contemporary a couple of times and we both stayed together at Old Key West and the Wilderness Lodge previously). Thought it would be cool to stay at one of the monorail resorts and felt that the Polynesian was the one that suited our tastes best.
I was waiting for a summer promotion before booking the room and was excited when discounts were announced recently. Disappointed, however, that the Polynesian wasn't among the resorts offering a higher discount - only about 5% or so. Talked it over with the wife to see if she wanted to change our plan to stay at the Polynesian to the Beach Club or Boardwalk for less money, or to stay at the Contemporary with a theme park view room for about the same price as a garden view room at the Poly. She was considering it but I could really tell that she wanted to stay at the Poly regardless so I made sure she knew that was still an option, it just wasn't going to be discounted much. She said she really wanted to stay at the Polynesian.
Looked around to see if I could find a better rate and got a quote from a travel agent for a AAA rate that was about $300 less than Disney's summer rate offer. Thinking it might be a long shot that there might have been an AP discount that I didn't know about, I called Disney for a quote and was pleasantly surprised to find that we had a 30% pin code attached to our names.
So while I probably would have jumped at the chance to book the Poly at the 20% summer offer at the deluxe resorts online, I instead wound up calling reservations and getting a better discount instead. Sometimes even when you lose, you win. Now I just have to figure out how to get this darn pixie dust off of me ... I think I even got some in my ears!

I love happy stories. Have a wonderful vacation!
. If we do decide to go, we may go with an Epcot resort as they are great resorts and the savings is there, but the MK area is our fav (especially the Poly), so I can see why your wife didn't want to give it up. Have a great trip and enjoy the Poly
