Went to the 8:00 show of the Spirit of Aloha Luau at the Poly last week and while waiting to be seated I snapped this pic of the Castle with my trusty old S3. Right day, right time. I just felt like sharing :thumbsup2

Quite lovely! Goes to show that it's the photographer, not the camera that gets the great picture sometimes!

Nice shot! How was the Luau? We are going in Nov. for the first time since '02.

The luau itself was terrific. Food was great, service was great, and show was lots of fun. Some of the bits were a bit corny, but the traditional dances from the various islands were interesting to watch. I used my camera in manual mode most of the show, and we were pretty far back so I didn't have as much light to work with compared to people closer in - but I got a handful of scrapbook-worth (according to Mrs Thurl) pictures. I used a shutter speed of 1/100 or 1/125, the widest aperture I could get, and mostly ISO 800 (even though I normally find it too noisy on the S3). Here's some of the best results (finished with Imagenomic Noiseware Community Edition):

The fire dancing is awesome. I would go back just to see that again. The food was good too (at least June '05, the last time I attended the Luau.

The billowing clouds behind the castle remind me of the Disney advertisements where the castle is on top of and surrounded by clouds.
