:surfweb: I was just wondering if anyone went with the something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue custom.

I have my something new - my wedding dress, shoes, tiara, etc.
My something borrowed - my sister is letting me borrow a silver bangle, which I have had my eye on for quite a while.
Something blue - that is my Mickey Mouse garter bought from ebay

I am really stuck for my something old. My mom has a key ring she bought on our first trip to Disney in 1989, which I was going to pin to my petticoat. But I am really stuck with choosing jewellery and might have my normal necklace and earrings.

What did or are you having as your something old, something new, something borrowed & something blue custom? Or did you not follow the custom and/or followed another custom or family tradition? :confused3

Something Old: My Grandmothers gloves and hankerchief (sp?)
Something New: Dress, tiara, shoes, etc.
Something Borrowed: Don't have that yet, but hoping to borrow a bracelet
Something Blue: My grandmothers hankerchief has a blue rose in the corner.

I am debating on the sixpence in the shoe thing. Maybe I can borrow one from my MOH. She could find one easier than I seeing she lives in England.

Yeah, I didn't like the sixpence in the shoe idea, since my shoes are more strappy sandles it would be really painful to walk down the isle :lmao:

I love the idea of the key ring from your first Disney trip! I'm pretty old fashioned so I was all about the "something" stuff!

Something Old: my ring that I inherited from my Great Aunt - it's 100 years old. I also pinned my mom's handkerchief from her wedding in my crinolines.

Something New: new earrings and bracelet. I was really a stickler for having "something new" that I would wear again, so it would not only be new for my wedding day but just a new thing for me to have, so my gown and tiara could not count for me. I have worn the earrings and bracelet many times since.

Something Borrowed: my Godmother's handkercheif which I held and a pin from my MIL which I kept in my bridal purse because it was too large to pin in my crinolines.

Something Blue: my garter was ivory, like my gown, but my mom chose little blue silk flowers that we sewed on, so my garter was my "something blue."

Family Tradition: in one shoe a dime from the year we got married and in the other shoe a penny from the year I was born :goodvibes

old - grandmother's earrings
new - dress, etc.
borrowed - aunt's earrings (I have double holes)
blue - garter

I was just thinking about this last night. I don't know what to do about the old and borrowed. I don't live near my grandmother, she won't be at the wedding and my mom has passed away. I will have to talk to DF's mom and grandmother to see if they have any ideas. How old does the old thing have to be? last year or last generation?

old-my moms pearl bracelet
new-dress/veil, shoes etc
borrowed-my sisters wedding jewelry
blue- garter

worked out easily for me. :cool1:

I think the qualifier for old is that it is not new. I would imagine if you have a piece of jewelery that you have had a long time, and have worn before, would work.

Something Old AND borrowed: a hankie borrowed from my Great Aunt (it was from the phillipines, and was her mother

something new: dress, shoes etc.
something blue: my garter :)

Something Old: A pearl pendant necklace that used to belong to my grandmother (my mom gave it to me for my highschool graduation -- my grandma passed when I was 16 and we were really close) and my pearl earrings (also a gift for my highschool grad from mom & dad)

Something new: my dress

Something borrowed: my grandmother's wedding ring/engagement ring (my mom has worn them with hers since my grandma passed)

Something blue: ok -- this is kinda funny -- when DH and I started dating I pierced my belly button. It used to be something that was "a big deal" and now well, I kind of forget that it's there. But I thought it would be cute to put a blue bead in for my something blue. I've kept the same bead since the wedding day. Anyway....kinda a modern twist on an old tradition.

Family tradition: I broke it. It was tradition in my mother's family to wear this family necklace (a blue sapphire). My mom offered to arrange for me to wear it and explained the tradition but didn't force it on me. To me...it was more significant to wear my grandma's necklace

Old: an antique diamond necklace my mother purchased from me 10 years ago (she always hoped I would wear it for my wedding) and my grandmothers hankerchief

New: earrings

Borrowed: my great aunts hair pins

Blue: my mother purchased a Cinderella wedding pin, which I pinned in my crinolines

Something Old: my mother veil (sorry mom, but your old)
Something New: my dress
Something borrowed: my left shoe, my MOH and I got married 3wks apart and decided we both liked the same shoe, i bought the right...she bought the left....(ok we split the bill, but still qualifies)
Something blue: my garter, DH bought me a blue Cinderella coach charm and i glued it to the garter
And a sixpence: well my dad got a prince charming squish penny from 1900 parkfair

something old- my grandmother's mother's wedding band

something borrowed (which was also really old)- my dad's father's mother's handkerchief that she carried at her wedding and my grandmother and aunt have used it as well.

something new- my dress, shoes, etc...

something blue- I wore blue undies!

I don't remember if I put a coin in my shoe, I wore ballet slippers so maybe not? :confused3

My Something Old: My grandmothers charm will be hanging on bouqet (R.I.P.)
Something New:Tiara
Something Borrowed: not sure yet
Something Blue: Garter

Something Old and Blue: My nana's sapphire earrings she left me. They were in 14k gold so we took the sapphires and made them into earrings that matched my dress better (White gold) :woohoo:

Something New: Dress, veil, shoes

Something Borrowed: My sisters clutch that she used at her wedding

Something Blue: Also my garter.

Something Old - My Grandmothers wedding band....not sure where I'm going to put it yet b/c it does not fit me!

Something New - Dress, tiara, jewelry yeah yeah

Something Borrowed - Not sure yet!!

Something Blue - My mickey mouse toe ring!!! :) My white undies also say "Bride" on them in blue sparkles!! ;)

something blue- I wore blue undies!

I totally forgot that I did too! :thumbsup2 comfy VS ones, no thongs for me...

I forgot b/c it wasn't something that I put in the program...:rotfl:

old- my saint christopher bridesmaid necklace from my sisters wedding 20 years ago( i put it in my shoe)
new- dress etc
borrowed- MIL pendant the DH bought her as a child (i wore it on my bracelet)
blue- my garter

Collecting it was a made rush 2 days before we flew out as it had slipped my mind

Old: My grandfather’s wedding ring he wore when he married my grandmother back in 1955. I actually have worn it every day since he passed away on my right hand middle finger. Someone – I think one of my former co-workers – asked if I planned on taking it off on my wedding day – I don’t think she thought it “went” with the outfit or something. I think I quickly responded with “Nope, you just helped me figure out my something old. Plus, he’ll be with me in spirit the day I get married!”

New: Sapphire pendant on a simple gold chain I bought in about 5 minutes on a run through the mall about ½ hour before my rehearsal dinner when my best friend/MOH and I realized the necklace and bracelet I had made really didn’t match. It could have been my dress, or shoes, or veil … I think we all have “new” covered! :lmao:

Borrow: sapphire and diamond tennis bracelet of my grandmothers. She brought it along with some simple diamond earrings I also wore. The bracelet matches my wedding band which is also diamonds and sapphires.

Blue: Any one of the following could have been my something blue: my dress, my shoes, my bracelet, or my wedding band.
