Sorry if this isn't in the right place or has been brought up before - I'm not losing sleep over this or anything, but was just wondering if this one thing brought on slight OCD in anyone else:

Why is the resort pronounced Disney's Ca-RIBB-e-an Beach Resort, yet the ride is Pirates of the Ca-ri-BB-ean?

Both are correct, kind of like THE (thee) and THE (thuh). It's a regional, cultural thing. Sometimes it matters if the speaker is British or North American and sometimes it's just what ever has been used enough to be the accepted norm.

But people of the region itself use the CariBBean I believe so technically I think they get to be correct. LOL

I don't say CBR the way you way it. I say it the same way as I do POTC.

I do, however, go on a ca-RIB-be-an cruise. So I do say it both ways, but not in the same context that you do.

The was some debate as to whether you were using it as a noun/proper noun or as an adjective.

But I can't find any definitive research or etymology on that.

Pirates of the CariBBean....Caribbean being a noun.

Disney's CaRIBbean Beach Resort....Caribbean being an adjective.

Because of the fantastic rules for English allow so much leeway on how to pronounce things like Tomato Pecan etc... What kills me is the way the Europeans refuse to honor the letter "Z" when the spell most words that rightfully use a letter Z.

I'm not sure. Unless it's the written version, in which case it's simply because we use British English and Americans use American English and they aren't the same.

Proper European spelled

customize customize

As you can see in the European spelling the beloved letter "Z" doesn't get his proper respect.
