Something is wrong with my eyelid, what could it be?

I noticed lately that both of my eyelids have been kind of "flaky" right before I put my makeup on in the morning. I take my makeup off every night and both eyelids have been a little tender. However, this afternoon, my left eyelid started to hurt while I was having my hair done, and when I took the makeup off, it looks like there is a "pimple" or something close to it, just a tad above my eyelid. The whole lid is red and raw, and normally I can put some vitamin C on it to make it feel better....good LORD, NO! This hurts really badly. It looks a bit swollen.

Obviously, this doesn't warrant a trip to the ER, and my doc's office is closed, but does anyone know what this may be? It's not a sty, I've had tons of those, this doesn't compare to it. At the moment, I have one of those eye gel things to put on when you're relaxing, hoping it will take the redness and swelling down. It almost looks like I have 3 eyelids. HELP! :crazy2:

Sounds like you have some kind of eye infection which could be spread to both eyelids through your eye makeup.

I wouldn't wear any eye makeup tomorrow and see if that helps.

That is a possibility. Could it be spread through the eyeshadow?

Yes, makeup can become contaminated. Whenever you have any kind of eye infection (I have had pink eye) you need to throw out your makeup and get new stuff.

It sounds like you might have some blepharitis, which is a relatively superficial infection. Usually, cleaning your eyelids with dilute baby shampoo can help to heal it, by lowering the bacterial count. This tends to be a more chronic problem than conjunctivitis or a stye. Your eye makeup is probably contaminated, particularly any mascara. I would wait until your lid clears up, then use a fresh supply.

Sounds like a sty, which is basically a small abcess type thing on the eyelid. Soak it with warm water and wipe it with diluted baby shampoo a few times a day.

Get new eye make-up too, both shadows and mascara and liner if you use eyeliner.

Yes, I have had the eyelid thing way back when. Clean with the baby shampoo and throw out all makeup. Stinks. Don't use makeup for awhile until it heals.

I couldn't wear makeup on my eyes for years because of it. I got it from someone who used my makeup.

I changed brands of eye makeup one time and had the same thing happen. I guess I was allergic to something in the new brand. As soon as I stopped using it my eye got better.

I just had the same thing recently. Make sure you don't wear ANY makeup until it clears up. It stinks, but you don't want to keep spreading it around with your old makeup or contaminate your new make up.

Mine was so swollen that I could barely see, never mind go to work so it was easy for me to stay home with no make up!

Good luck!

Anyone know how long it's going to take to clear up? My bridal shower is this Saturday, and I don't want to go in looking like the Bride of Frankenstein :)

Bridal Shower? Get yourself to a doctor!!!
:) My plan first thing tomorrow. Luckily, I work with them :)

do you wear nailpolish? I had something like that happen in High school. I went to the Dr, and he took one look at my hands and told me to stop wearing the nail polish and it would clear up. He was right. I stopped wearing nail polish and I've never had a problem since. I can wear it for a few hours if I am going someplace, but anymore than that and they start to flake again. He said that you touch your eyes many times during the day, and I was allergic to the nail polish!

My DS used to have Blepharitis really bad. Besides the baby shampoo treatment, the doctor also gave him a scrip for an ointment. We were to soak his eye with a really warm damp washcloth twice a day, clean the lid and put on the ointment. It'd clear it up really fast. Sorry but I can't recall the name of the med.
