For my next visit, my plane tickets were $50 cheaper per person by shifting one day back. I had made my resort ressie (room only - AAA rate) for an extra day at the beginning and end, in case this happened. So, I called to drop the last day of my stay. And, the CM said "let me see if it is available", to which I responded "how could it not be available to drop a day?" She said they block out a number of rooms for 4 day stays, 5 day stays, etc. What I wanted was available, but I've never heard of this before.

That's interesting. It goes along with what someone else posted about the passholder's best rate plan. They couldn't get say a 3 night stay at their room of choice but if added a day at the end and made 4 night, they could. Or coudln't get 4 nights but could get longer with the level of room they wanted.

I haven't seen that discussed before. If disney is doing that, I don't like it at all.

Wow.. that's weird, never heard of. "Let me see if there's room available." To drop a day? I'm not taking... I'm giving! "Yes, please do check to see if we can stick this room back to your inventory." :rotfl2:

Do you get a new confirmation # when you dropped the extra days?
No, it's the same confirmation #.

I guess this makes sense that they sell in certain blocks, Could you imagine if a hotels had every guest checking in or out the same day? I'm sure it would be insane with lines at the desk and housekeeping would never get the rooms done; though you'd think they'd have enough flexibility for adding or dropping a day off.

A similar thing happen to me with a hotel, but not Disney. I'm taking my daughter to VA for school. I booked a hotel room with 2 queen beds for 3 nights and then realized I only needed two. I called to drop the one night and I was told that a room with 2 queen beds would not be available they only had a room with a king bed available. This made no sense to me, I just wanted one day dropped off my exisiting reservation, and I needed the 2 queen beds. The would not budge, I got annoyed and cancelled the whole booking and booked another hotel.
So I guess this is a common procedure

Wow that's really strange. Ok, let's say they really did only have blocks of 4-, 5-, 6-night stays, etc. What would happen if a large number of people decided to stay 5 nights and that block was filled up? Does that mean then that the next person who calls and wants to stay 5 nights is either told to stay a night less or a night extra? Seems rather odd to me.

I know they sell blocks at the campground and they change the rules all the time. If you try to book only a weekend they say they have nothing but add a couple of days and hay we found you a site. But as the time gets closer they will sell just the weekend.

They have done the same to me. I had 4 days booked and wanted to drop one day and the only thing they would do is cancel the whole thing. So we either had to pay for a day and not use it or cancel and hope to be able to get a new resie for the dates we wanted closer to the arrival date. Good for them but bad for us.

I did the exact same thing, booked an extra day until I finalized the airafare and then I cancelled the first day. I kept the same reservation number and have twice requested a new paper ressie, but have never received it. I'm just afraid that somewhere they kept the old arrival date and will cancel if we don't show up.

This is due to Min/Max stay. A room might be available for 4 nights but not 3 due to min stay.

If you are modifying a reservation down and you are told that there is no availability ask to be transfered to guest services.

We had an 8 night package and wanted to add 1 night. We were told it would be $316 for another night room only - no dinning plan.
I knew a 9 nights deal with food should only cost me about $300 more, and that was with 2 adults and 3 children on the dinning plan. My AAA agent was told it was because we had originally booked an 8 day package. So after many calls to WDW by our AAA agent:flower3: , she was able to get us the 9 nights, Contemporary Garden view, with dinning for $133 more than the 8 day package- which she canceled for us.

J's M - You might be able to check your ressie online to be sure it shows the correct arrival date.

Airjoe - Are you saying there are always minimum stays (or depends on what is booked up?) I've heard of people staying just one night in a Disney resort before moving to DVC, etc. And, do you think Guest Services could override a situation when you are needing to drop a day?

I had the same thing happening at BC, I wanted to book 3 nights and there was no availability, but there was some for 4 nights.

I'm by no means a Disney reservation system expert but I didn't think prior to this there was ever a minimum stay requirement on AP discount-room only reservations. I could see if it was a package deal.

I know I and tons of disers have gotten AP rates for a night or two here and there due to resort hoping or DVCers staying before or after their DVC stays. You'd think someone would have mentioned a minimum stay with an AP-room only reservation before this.

This seems like something new to me associated with this Best Rate system...but maybe I'm wrong.

I had this happen with an AP rate in March. I was going to split my stay between two resorts, but I couldn't get the Contemporary for the last 3 nights of my stay. I could get the Contemporary for the entire 5 nights of my stay, which obviously included the last 3 nights that they told me weren't available. I also thought it had something to do with what day I was checking in. For the 5 night stay I checked in on Thursday, but for the split stay I was going to check in on Saturday or Sunday.

I had this happen to me once several years ago. I tried to drop the last night of a multi-night reservation, and was told I would have to cancel the whole reservation and try to book it again. I politely declined, hung up, and called back - the agent I got the second time just dropped the last night with no problem. Maybe there's been a change in the system since then, or maybe like me, you just got an agent who didn't know how to do it.

There has always been a min/max stay. Depending on the day, the min might be 1 or something greater than 1.
