No, I am not into the wine or anything... but the CRAZIEST thing is going on around here. My almost 14 yr. old dd called from a friend's house and said that an airplane had blown up above Shreveport (very slose to us). She said friend's phone was ringing for her dad and his friend so this flaming in the sky. Before she called their whole family went out and watched it. The nighttime local news came on and the leading story was that they had dozens of calls reporting a flaming something in the sky with a red and green hue to it. BUT, they said that they checked with the FAA and it was NOT an aircraft - they didn't know what it was. The news station reported that whatever it was landed on a specific road which is like 6 miles from us and they had a news crew there. They went to cut to the reporter and a whole other story came up. Later in the broadcast they tried to cut to the crew again and again to no avail. By the time the newscast was over they said that they had calls from the CBS affiliate in Dallas since there were reports of seeing the same thing as far west as Witchita falls, TX, in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and here in northwest Louisiana and that they would have a full report in the morning. They played phone calls from eye witnesses (who gave the exact same description my dd did and she hadn't seen the news yet). It made me wonder if they DID have a tv crew where whatever it was landed but wanted to put a lid on it so they can examine it. It landed very close to our U.S. Air Force Base here. (The same one George Bush flew into on 9/11 and gave the first news conference from when he was returning from Fla and it was too dangerous to go back to D.C. yet). No, I don't think this was terrorist related, but if it was an unidentified object I know the people from the base will be on top of it ASAP. They say it could be a meteorite or "space trash" (lovely thought  ) Weird stuff isn't it?

Wow, I wonder what it was. Never been into UFO's but that is strange. Let us know what they say, ok.

:D

How strange! A few years ago on the 4th of July my family was coming home from the fireworks. My mom and I were sitting on the right side of the car looking out the window when this huge green ball of light flew across the sky...and no it wasn't some stray firework lol. My mom and I just looked at each other and my dad and sister thought were nuts. We thought maybe they were right until I started talking about it at work the next day and people in different counties saw it too!

So is there an update? Do we know what it was? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

My girls saw the meteor as they were coming home from the pool last night. They were very excited.

OMG I saw it down here in Baton Rouge!!!!!! I saw something Green and I thought it was just a left over firecracker at first, but it was "thick". WHOA! I just kinda blew it off!

Any update this morning? I didn't see anything on cnn.com...

I saw a report on a local tv station's website that it was possibly a meteorite. The could only confirm it was not due to weather conditions (Fort Worth, TX).

This was from our local news website:

North LA Sees Mysterious Lights in Sky

(Shreveport-AP) -- More than a dozen people reported seeing a bright light in the sky last night and bombarded the National Weather Service in Shreveport with calls.

Meteorologist Mike Berry, who said he fielded about 20 calls from people asking about the mysterious light, said meteorologists were watching radar focusing on storms in northern Texas around the time of the incident and did not see anything out of the ordinary.

Monroe-based astronomer Stephen Bailey says the running theories right now are meteors or space debris.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office reported around five calls and forwarded them to the weather office.

Meteorologists in Shreveport concluded the object would have been pretty high in the atmosphere, judging from the location of callers.

I always miss all of the interesting unexplained phenomena!;)

If it was a meteorite or space trash I doubt that much is left to collect, unless it was from a very big piece.

I think I'll go check spacenews.com.

Thanks for posting this!:sunny:

Hmmm now thats interesting. I will have to ask my fiance about that. He lives in Metairie.

This story is getting some national attention! I just heard about it on the St. Louis news!

Definitely looks like a meteor to me from that video. Must have been a big one though to last so long in the atmosphere!
