Something fishy going on at ebay?? Update...

That is amazing to see!!!!! Very strange. You sure are observant and certainly did the right thing to call FBI. Kudos to you. How did you first start to see the strangeness?

I wonder if UPS is about to be bought out by someone else, and the name is changing....the whole thing is just umcomfortably strange.

Lets hope its nothing but better to have someone look into it
May just be someone collecting it
Conrail railroad stuff goes for outrageous prices on ebay
and that is for collectors

I just read a post about this on another coupon website! How bizzare! I think you did the right thing by calling them...I hope it is *nothing*, but better safe then sorry!

I agree, that is a very strange thing going on over there. I checked the link and couldn't believe how many pants were going for $400!!!! I think you did the right thing, thanks for keeping your eyes and ears open.

if you check the bid-histories on these auctions...the bids start out relatively normal...$25, $28, $34, ...up to around $50 or so...then JUMP to $500. There are other auctions, rather inexpensive, not touched at all  It's definately not 'normal' :o

I don't think you're crazy at all, I'd consider that very suspicious as well. I'm glad you reported it.

My question is, why are UPS uniforms on sale on e-bay?

first I want to say I am glad people agree that I did the right thing,I felt like I did but I needed other opinions.

dan ,you asked how i figured this out.
it all started around thanksgiving when i heard that ups had put out a bobble head doll and I was looking for one for my ups driver, when i did a search for ups stuff i saw how high some of the uniforms were going for. It didnt fase me until I did a search a few weeks ago and started to see some more outrageous prices $550 for a jacket,$400 for a shirt, etc .
I have been dealing with ebay for a few years now so i did a search on completed items and started to see a trend with all the high bidders, they are all new and all only bidding and winning ups clothing items. I looked at all the completed items they won and saw a trend.
it just started to look weirder and weirder. then with all the press here in new york about 5 people possibly coming in from canada, etc and with everything that happened on 9/11 I just felt like this didnt feel right.

I was editor in chief of my school news paper and have always been inquisitive so I guess I just went with my gut and researched and researched some more on ebay and saw that between these 9 new people in the past month they have spent almost $45,000.00 only on ups clothing items!!

so i followed a hunch and called the FBI.i hope its nothing, but my sister was in the bldg on 9/11 and luckily made it out and I guess I dont want another type of that incident happening.

It's certainly unusual. Halloween costumes? Who would pay $1K+ to dress up as a UPS man/woman for Halloween? Very strange......

That is odd and kinda scary. Some of the ones I looked at in PandyPaws' link were bought at $400 using Buy It Now.

My guess would be that the person at UPS who you spoke to either was clueless, disinterested, or maybe aware but giving "the company line" on it so as not to alarm the public.

That is really wonderful, looney!!!!! A real sleuth you are. Can you imagine how you would feel if it were something and was prevented, because of you??? Great.

What did the FBI say? I wonder if they would give you any info. if they found something.

This REALLY worries me,but for another reason.

We had a local murder just linked to the serial murders in Baton Rouge, LA(all done by the same man-using DNA). The police, all along, have said the women had 'opened their doors" to the man because of a uniform ! I had no idea anyone could buy a UPS uniform on the internet..it makes being a 'bad guy" just too easy.
:(

Good work...You have really come across something strange.

This has to have a catch. There is something wrong with UPS uniforms going for ridiculous prices. Something is really wrong and I for one am glad you figured it out.

We need more people like you.

You're new here yourself, aren't you? I guess I'm not sure what to think either.

If this ends up 'catching' someone/something, then I'll be grateful but, for now, I'll just make sure my regular UPS LADY is the same. ;)

Do you suppose it has anything to do with UPS sponsoring Nascar and fans are bidding on these items?

Hmmmmm...
Just a thought.
Say you and some buddies have $45,000 from a drug deal. What if you sold the same UPS uniforms to each other on ebay until each person has enough transactions to launder their share of the 45 grand?
Just a thought.

Good point HorizansFan..money laundering is a possibility and obviously illegal. I think you did the right thing thelooneyhouse.

Whether Ebay likes it or not, they are a great means of selling stolen goods. We just had an incident here in St. Croix where some stolen items were being sold on Ebay. I can't go into details because it involves items stolen from where I work and the investigation is ongoing. But I can say that it was a vigilant co-worker that discovered the items and he reported it to our Security folks. Not only will the thief face local criminal charges, he/she will also face federal charges for internet fraud.

The fact that a large amount of UPS uniforms are being sold at huge prices is very suspect indeed.

Good work thelooneyhouse!!

Wow that is strange! I hope we find out what's going on.
The money laundering idea is one plausible explanation, I can't think of any others.
A real mystery.
