Okay, please tell me I am not going crazy or anything. conspiracy theory, maybe?!?

I have been discussing this on another board and want to see what you guys think about it here.

UPS uniforms, shirts, pants, hats, jackets etc, all official stuff have been going for outrageous prices on ebay.

its who is bidding on this stuff that has me worried.
for the past month its about 8-9 people, all new to ebay, all bidding only on UPS uniforms,in all different sizes,ex. (each seller is bidding on medium, large, xxl, etc) now totaling almost $45,000 in items.

now i think its suspicious so i called UPS and they dismissed it as people buying halloween costumes early, but when I called the FBI they took it a little more seriously and are looking into it.

then i saw on another message board where i post sometimes that someone else noticed ups items going for a lot of money lately so i thought maybe i wasnt crazy after all for reporting this to the FBI.

I dont usually think the worst of things, but to me this smelled fishy.and I would rather be cautious than not say anything at all.

am i crazy or do you think there is something to this??

Another detective just called me and took more of the information I had and is seriously looking into it. He said alot of the activity doesnt look right and is working along with ebay and the UPS on this.He said he will contact me again in a few days.

So who knows, again this could all be nothing but I am glad that it is in the proper hands now.

Update..

I'll post, but only to say I have no idea what to think. If you are thinking what I think you're thinking, it does sound suspicious.

It just doenst sound right, maybe I am overreacting...

It does indeed sound quite strange to me. UPS's response about Halloween costumes sounds ridiculous to me - who would pay that kind of $ for a lousy UPS costume????

Whether this is some kind of strange terrorist plot or just some people planning a rather elaborate scam, I don't know. But it certainly sounds like something more than just an odd occurrence.

I appreciate your efforts in informing higher authorities about this situation and certainly hope the FBI follows up on this.

Are you thinking that bad people are buying the uniforms to rob people or what?

Welcome to the DIS!

thanks for the welcome!! :)

I'm not sure what to think- its just highly odd that all the winners of these items are new on ebay as of the past month ,and all are paying enormous amounts of money for ups uniforms in all sizes.
it just seemed weird to me.

like I said I hope its nothing!! I mean nobody thought that people would use a plane as a weapon so who knows what goes thru peoples minds these days!

looneyhouse:

I think you did the right thing by calling the FBI. I hope they check it out in depth. $45,000. worth of UPS uniforms, all bought by only a handful of people who are new to eBay does sound rather odd.

I have a question... Where would someone be getting all those UPS uniforms to sell in the first place?!?!??!?!?! I wonder who it is that's doing the selling, as well as the buying.

Seems strange to me! A rush on UPS uniforms for next Halloween? $45,000 woth of UPS uniforms were sold for costumes? Not likely.
Unfortunately, in these times, our guard is up, as it should be.
Someone wearing a UPS uniform could have easier access into a building, no?
I think you did the right thing. Most people wouldnt bother.

I think you made an excellent observation and a wise phone call....

If it's nothing -no harm. If it's something that needs a direct attention--you did "good".

When something is a puzzle to me I look at what I see--Then I look at what is missing and ask why. Sounds llike you have done both----Good Job....

First off, is it routine for UPS to sell their old/out-dated uniforms? If the answer is no, then it's cause for suspicion.

Secondly, if there had been a huge shipment of UPS uniforms that say "fell off the back of a truck" and someone is looking to make a quick buck on selling them, then you'd think UPS would be concerned.

The whole thing just doesn't sound right.

I think is is scary to think that terrorists could be buying these. I'm glad you notified the authorities.

We have a very good reason to have our guard up.
I too think this is a little on the fishy side. You did good by calling in the FBI.

do you have nay links to the ebay auctions that you found suspicious? i did a search on ebay but can't find anything that strange.

ummm, yeah...strange...

If you look at the COMPLETED auctions the "high' priced clothing items show up....$400 for a L/S shirt???

I searched ebay for past or completed auctions. I see what you mean. The prices for some of those uniforms are unreal! I don't think they are for Halloween costumes at prices like those.

I don't know if I think it is a terrorist plot or anything, but it never hurts to check. After all, they told us after 9-11 that we should keep our eyes and ears open.

Since the Oklahoma City bombing, we Okies are a little nervous about trucks. UPS drivers drive trucks. That thought makes me a little nervous.

you know, it's funny, I was checking out ebay the other day searching for a UPS truck (diecast.....racing type...) and I noticed the incredibly high prices on clothing. I didn't give it a second thought til now.
My initial thought was a new teen rage....but you could be onto something there.

Just looked up Fed Ex uniforms under completed auctions. Only pants sold for $7. It must not be a popular Halloween costume?

thelooneyhouse, that is so strange.
I'm glad you alerted the FBI.. I work at an electronics firm that supplies the military with fuzes for bombs & missiles. Since 9/11, I've always thought I would triple check UPS & FEDEX before allowing them to come thru the gate to the plant. I am just waiting for one of their trucks to be hi-jacked. Yes, it is scary.
