Did you guys hear that Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer?:sad1: I love all of his movies. One of my all time favorites is Red Dawn.

Okay, honestly now, when we are visiting you are going to let us know where you are so we can stop by and say hi, aren't you? Or at least meet with us when we all get together?
Negative, grasshopper. I must be Found. I *may* come to a meet, but only when the Time is Right shall ye Know.

well, looks like I get the bad parent award today. had to take Niles to the vet. 16 pounds of yowling furball . all the way there and a lungfull when we got into the door back home. they gave me a long tube to use to get a pill down his throat. imagine, an ugly bad footed 41 year old trying to get a pill down a cats throat. stay tuned. we could end up on cnn, or worse, youtube. he will be fine. momma here feels real bad. really guilty. i'll get over it.

The Muffin Man?

That is very sad and, yes, I saw it on the CB this morning. They know EVERYTHING on the CB way before the rest of us. It's like TMZ on crack.

I doubt, however, that you love ALL his movies. Have you ever seen Black Dog? Ever even heard of it?

Awwww... Penny.

Can you hide the pill in something? I don't know how it works for cats. When they give me a pill for Maggie Dog, I just shove it in a little piece of hotdog or a vienna sausage. She's such a pig, she just inhales the food and never notices the pill.

Quick stop in from the land of frustration. Anyone want three teen (or almost) boys? Just one of those days where you're ready to sell them to the lowest bidder (no, not the highest, then they might want their money back!). Tricia, I'll take the adorable kids in your pics any day!

Anyone read the thread called something like "Things I never thought I'd say to my kids"? I'll add to it things I thought I'd never have to say to a 12 and 14 year old:

Do not throw ripped up pieces of tortilla shells all over the kitchen floor.

And... Why is there salsa all over the ceiling? :rotfl:

Yep, that was what the kitchen looked like when I got home from work this afternoon. Evidently they got in a fight and chose weapons of Mexican destruction! ;)

Okay, I'm trying to do a bit of ketchuping! I'll see what I can do which will keep me away from my kids and strangling them!

Me me oh dang not going til July  :lmao:

You guys make me sad because not only am I not going to July, I don't know when (or even IF) I'll be going again! Yeah, I know, I should be excited about going out East in a couple weeks, but somehow it's just not the same thing, you know?! :confused3

penny DL is really expensive, actually; i think everything in CA is really expensive:confused3 they must be paid well out there. Good luck on the surgery, had to be frustrating for you to deal with it for so long.

wendy - nothing like girl scout cookies in the deep freeze:thumbsup2 , i could eat a whole box of thin mints in a week. i finally fed the last 2 boxes of trefoils i had stashed to the dogs before xmas. I haven't been "hit up" yet...laying low; hope to escape this year. ps imo u have great willpower!

Maybe I'm just remembering wrong, but I really didn't find CA to be more expensive than Florida for our trip and that included air from Michigan?! I mean I know the Cost of Living is ridiculous (yeah, we tried to move there and ended up here instead - sigh!), really I know that! But I thought the park tickets were WAY cheaper than WDW and the hotels (however, we stayed off-site) were also inexpensive. Maybe it was just time of year (late Feb)?

Yep, we got those boxes of Girl Scout cookies this week too. Although one of them is mysteriously missing already! ;) I'm a tagalong (sp?) fan - love the chocolate and peanut butter!

i have yet to ever get sick of takeout or anybody else in the household cooking;)

Ditto!

stay away from the Dark Chocolate Chex Mix

Okay Penny - I have to know if this is because they're too good and you eat too many or if they are disgusting! I love Chex Mix and I love dark chocolate, but I'm not sure how they'd go together - hence my question!

Katie - too bad my DS13 isn't in your class. You would be done by now. His English teacher posted his grades - he got a NO CREDIT for his journal that was supposed to be turned in Friday. I asked him, "Why did you not turn it in?" The answer - the good old standby, "I forgot". I said did you see everyone else turn theirs in? He says "No, I had my head down writing.":confused3

Maybe you have your 13 year old and my "almost" 13 year old mixed up! Sounds like we may be sharing the same kid! The other day we played a game where you had to answer questions about each other. One question (about DS12) asked what his autobiography would be called. DS14 gave the answer "Huh?" and we all just burst out laughing because it was so perfect for him. If I didn't sit him down, ask him what homework he had, put the pencil in his hand and then yell "ERIC!" every now and then to keep him on task, stuff would never get done. I remember when he was in 4th grade and I just could NOT keep him on task and his two older brothers (then in 6th and 7th grade) told him "you're going to DIE in middle school!"

So take heart in the fact that you're not alone!

For post # 8,000 I will bid you all a fond good night.

Sleep well and pleasant dreams!

MAC! What are your dates in October again? I'm pricing out the week of October 19th with my handy dandy 40% email and I'm starting to get down to a reasonable price.

Wendy - CONGRATS GIRL! You keep it up.

I have the best intentions but my willpower is the pits.

I don't know how you do it - if food is around - I will eat.
:)

I agree totally! The best I can do is at least limit the amount of each junk I have. I can't not have chocolate, but I can have 1 or two pieces rather than 10. And I can exercise to try to compensate for that.

I actually requested (and got) a Texas Instruments Scientific Calculator for Christmas when I was 16 (back in the 80s). If we would get DS a calculator for Christmas he would be the most disappointed kid.;)

I remember when I was 9 and had my tonsils out and got a LED calculator as my "hospital recovery" gift! I thought it was the neatest thing in the world, since I'd never seen one before. Did you know that if you pressed 5+5=, it would say 10 (obviously!), but if you kept pressing =, it would keep adding 5 AGAIN! I remember just being fascinated by this. Yeah, my kids would find that cool.

so 40 hit you hard?

i thought that number was a piece of cake.
the one that bothered me the most was turning 20.

30 bothered me - primarily because of the number of people that when I told I was turning 30 who told me "Really? I thought you were older than that!" Yeah, that makes you feel great! They'd usually go on to explain well, that I had 3 kids already, etc., but still!

I'm the 4th Blue Man. DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!!!:

Wow, awesome! ;)

SIZE="3"]I did find that interesting...thanks for posting that. Makes ya wonder because 'all of a sudden' a LOT of kids are being diagnosed autistic....I don't remember ANY autistic kids when I was little? :confused3
Lucky!!! This is the reason DH won't buy any big ticket item at BB....their warranty and return policy stink! :headache:

Not trying to stir the pot (and certainly not jumping into that thread on the CB), but I personally believe it's been around, but just known by different names (many of which I can't even post here because they're not PC). I knew a lot of "special" kids, who probably would have been called autistic these days (or somewhere on the "spectrum") that were simply called troublemakers or hyper (to use some of the nicer words) back then. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of truly autistic children, but I've known several "borderline Aspergers" kid who I swear could have been perfectly normal kids had they had normal parents (ie. read parents who believed in disciplining them sometimes rather than focusing on justifying the behavior). But that might just be me!

My mom actually saw the tests....and she was blown away by the ridiculous spelling by these kids :sad2:

I tell ya, cell phone and texting is making us American unedumacated...:dance3:

Drives me crazy with DS16. Who still averages over 100 texts a day! :scared1: And no, he can't spell, but that was true before he ever got into texting![/SIZE]

marci - u must've hit it just right @ DL:confused3 , the food is easily 1/4 to 1/3 more in the parks. Tix are now in the same ballpark as WDW too, 4 & 5 day PHs over $200...don't get me started on airfair;) . If i hadn't have had rewards & vouchers for part of the travel we wouldn't be going.:sad2: I booked early & complained about the $ then; now it's more than $624 per person on "sale" lowest priced carrier (SW).

when do you leave to be a snow bunny?

Oh...and what IS it with 'trial husbands' on this thread??? :confused3 Teeth, divorces, geez.... :confused3 (I'm ALMOST feeling left out...not quite yet...but soon.....)

Me too - I'm only on my first (and last!) husband! ;)

See...she brought a note....she remembers we had Marcie call her last time she went MIA :rolleyes1

The same way the CPA ends up with a child that can't do math.

God's way of making the world go round.;)

Gotcha! Or a mom who goes crazy with people who can't spell or use grammar correctly. And has a 16 year old who STILL can't understand the difference between write and right or two and to! AAUUGGHHH! He's a really bright kid and I just can't understand how it can't be glaringly obvious to him! :sad2:

jennifer - only because i had to replace it:mad: do i know that our districts use TI 82 & 83 plus models...they graph, can download programs, etc.

jodie - mattress shopping is very intimidating, i got suckered in last time i think; bought a serta pillow top few years ago; just isn't holding up well.

Our district requires the TI84 once you're in Algebra 2 (they'll allow the 83 but advise against it), but then you have to get the TI89 (which costs an arm and a leg) once they're in Pre-Calc. I have one in calc now and two who will be in pre-calc next year - big investment coming up I guess! And you can't just go ahead and get the 89 first because you can't use it on the ACT so they have to learn the 84 first. Yeah, that's about $275 per kid over a couple years! Then add in DS16 who "dropped" his 89 this year so we had to go buy ANOTHER one!

That is very sad and, yes, I saw it on the CB this morning. They know EVERYTHING on the CB way before the rest of us. It's like TMZ on crack.

Yep, they are a scary bunch.

I doubt, however, that you love ALL his movies. Have you ever seen Black Dog? Ever even heard of it?

Nope I had not heard of that one. I did look it up and I bet I would enjoy it. I loved Road House too!

For those of you that were discussing the vaccines and autism thing? Yeah... there's a firestorm brewing on the CB...

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1680138

:scared1:  :scared1:

I will not post there. I will stand behind my belief that the over abundance of vaccinations is causing problems. Probably many that have yet to be discovered. Something has caused the increase and imho it has to be something that is being put in their bodies. We can not blindly believe that our government always does what is best for us. Heck knowing that 1/2 the ingredients in our medications comes from China is enough for me to take a hard look at medications that my children take. I am not a fanatic but I do know I need to think for myself.

 You guys are killing me. Maybe I should back off the length of my summer trip & do two this year. :rolleyes1

The McDonalds was SWAMPED. I mean wall to wall kids and parents. All of we grownups were looking at each other like, "Why? I mean WHY are we here?" We had to wait for our food... wait for a table... rush through our meal so that those wandering with trays could get a table. Ick.

I would so much rather donate a flat dollar amount that this stupid fundraiser crap.

The boys looked so cute though! But I agree that it does sound miserable! And I'm also big on cash instead of fundraisers. At least by the high school level, alot of our fundraisers are for "your child's account" meaning that if you buy the stupid $10 pizza, you get $5 credit for their account. So I don't have to feel guilty about not buying the $10 pizza and still having $10 to spend when it's time for them to take a trip or whatever!

Penny -

Also I am so sorry to hear about the surgery you are going to need on your toe....I remember when you broke it and how much you suffered. Sorry to hear it will be awhile longer before you get relief.

I remember too how miserable you were and hope that this time there's a much quicker recovery and that it solves ALL the problem!

They are Finally here

PICTURES !!!
Someone asked about our Bowling team . In HS here we have lots of school sponsered teams and yes bowling is one of them .:thumbsup2

I enjoyed the pics - where did you get the bedroom set from? I really like the hutch-type cabinet you have. I'm looking for one for my son's room that doesn't fall apart in 5 minutes like the one we got from K-mart does! Of course I also don't want to spent $1000 on it, so I may be out of luck!

Our high school also has a bowling team! And - believe it or not - a ping pong team! ;)

Hey if we move while I am gone will you get me a good spot?????

Oh and Mac can we have a hot tub at the new place? Can it be beach front? If so I want a balcony room with a view of the ocean!

Thanks so much!!!

I just want a door that locks. At least if there will be any kids around. At least if they're mine!

No doubt! 1 teenager is enough for me. I can't imagine 3 or 4 (can't remember :o ). :scared1: You definitely had the harder job. ;)

Okay, I tried going back but couldn't find Mac's quote about each kid being a great only child. That's exactly how I feel about my boys. They're all great kids, but boy - when you put them together!! :dance3:

Anyone ever seen the video of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"? It has a good song in it called "If I could be the only child"! Just exactly descriptive of my boys. If you ever get a chance to watch it, you'd understand!

Hi all :wave2:
Another quick fly by....
I went to visit my dad today in the hospital. I didn't go yest, as I was really tired all day and had a couple of errands to run yest.
Anyways, my dad is doing better healthwise. He still is nothing by mouth, but the doc is going to clamp his NG tube and see how he does for a few hours. If he does well, then they will take out hte NG tube and get him on a clear liquid diet. He was up in a chair when I showed up. A friend of the family was htere when I showed up. Actually it's my cousin's father-in-law. Cousin's FIL tends to talk quite a bit and my dad never really liked him, so I'm sure my dad was glad I was there when this guy was there :rotfl2: They get along, its just that this guy is very nosey all the time and my dad doesn't like it.
Anyways, the surgeon showed up to check on my dad in the meantime. Eveything looks good. Saw the surgeon was wearing a red white and blue striped mouse ears pin.

Glad Dad's doing better - well, shoot if his surgeon is a Mickey fan then of course he should be! Keep us informed and we'll keep him in our prayers in the meantime!

NOT fun! Our (then 17 year old) cat had a stroke in August of 2006. She recovered somewhat, but until we finally had to put her down in April of 2007, we had to give her pills TWICE a day to prevent seizures. We found so many things that worked - for a little while. Finally ended up grinding them down and mixing it in with her food, but I realize that won't work for all pills. For short term, you can try anything the cat might like with a pill stuffed inside as Tricia said. For some bizarre reason, we found our cat liked hot dogs. :confused3 We'd just cut a small cube and stick the pill inside. Good luck!
