Tricia - have you been to Daytona before?

It's looking like James will be going to college there unless his 2nd choice offers him a free ride.

I need recommendations for two hotels.

I'm looking for one on the beach. I know from driving thru there last summer that its a pretty tacky area. Can you recommend a hotel there?

2nd, I want one next to the race track, which is also next to the college.

Hey, Sharon! I missed this last night.

I have been to Daytona several times. I love the dog track there. This will be my first experience with the Daytona 500.

There are several hotels on International Speedway Blvd. Not anything spectacular, but there is a Ramada Inn, Travelodge, La Quinta, Super 8 (bleech), Days Inn, ummmm... off the main road a block or two is a Hilton... ummmm... I know there is more, but I'm drawing a blank right now. You DO NOT want to be anywhere near Daytona International Speedway (which by the way is the original DIS... ha...) for the week prior to, or a couple of days after, the Daytona 500 on February 17th. It will be madness. We are staying at the La Quinta, which is about half a mile from the track, so that we can WALK back and forth to the races.

There is a nice Hilton on Daytona Beach... Ocean Walk, or something like that? I haven't stayed in that area in awhile, but that is a consistently nice hotel.

but, i must say.... the DIS IS running MUCH faster

Still very slow for me!

(which by the way is the original DIS... ha...)

That's right! :yay:

You guys want my opinion on what slows the boards down? I know it won't be real popular....

it's the smilies.

When I was still on dial-up, which was just a couple of years ago (remember, i'm in the boonies), I disabled smilies in my posts & all signatures because the boards loaded so slow for me. Once I got high speed I enabled them again. May be totally wrong, but it's a theory.

:surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb:

I have never supported DEI-
I used to root for Mark. Now, no way. I do support Junior a little, but for me personally, it will be Carl Edwards #99.

I still drool over the Kasey Kane commercials. That will not be stopping.

Penny, how did I miss that you watch Nascar?

I now have a mental picture of you with those 3 ladies that stalk Kasey Kane in all those commercials.

i'm trying to let everyone know that we didn't pay the rent on time and have to move to temporary shelter for a short period....:rolleyes1

:rotfl:

details, details:rolleyes1 when i say shortcut my family groans in unison...always looking for a new, shorter, better way:laughing: .

When my husband says, "It's a good road" my @ss muscles clench automatically. I can't tell you how many "good roads" we have spent hours meandering through the boonies on. :headache: :rolleyes1

Yeah, that's never a good thing is it?

As for my previous post about the smilies...

please disregard. The dis is now moving at lightning speed for me! :hippie: Guess that shows how much I know. Heck I didn't even know a square was a rectangle!

Well, I better get a shower so I can go talk to Ally's teacher.

Quick question for anyone that has booked RPR thru AAA do you have to wait till you get there to pay for your stay or do they take the payment right then.:confused3

 you're moving at lightening speed!! YAY!!!

(and fyi....I don't think anyone here besides marcie knew about the whole square/rectangle thing :confused3 )

Lawrence, you are booking THRU AAA or the AAA rate?? If you book THRU AAA, your LF benefits will not apply..... I would call the hotel directly and book THE AAA rate ;) And you will be charged 1 night deposit right away.

Booking thru AAA since the rates are almost $40.00 a night cheaper.

I don't understand....the rate should BE a AAA rate no matter if booked THRU AAA or thru the hotel? :confused3

To answer your original question....I have never booked THRU AAA, so I can't tell you about the deposit :confused3

Tried thru hotel and they say there are no AAA rates avaible thru the hotel and the rates for my days are $244.00 a night and thru AAA it is $207.00 a night so I had to go for the cheapest rate.

That doesn't make sense :confused3 Did you call the hotel back and try again?? You might get somebody different?? Too bad you can't do 3 nights....I think the $207 is about what the Supersaver rate is...AND it qualifies for LF bennies.

Hello all I guess we are all back here ???:confused3

Well the science fair was fun but way too many people in a small area. I also asked why so Late 7PM - 8:30 pm . It still is a school night and well most kids in grades k-2 are usually getting ready for bed then . Well my answer was it is a good time for the parents that work . Well then I had one of these looks :headache: and just walked away .This is NYC and it just kind of goes with the flow I Guess. DS was very happy with his medal and that is all that really matters after all.

Not a big NASCAR fan but we are going to Monster Jam for my DS . He loves those monster trucks . I am really thinking this is a guy thing because I just don't get it :confused3 . I can look at nice cars all day at the auto show but just don't get the driving really fast in a circle aspect of NASCAR or the biggest truck that can smash the most cars aspect of Monster Jam .Just leave me in a mall and let me go to :worship: Coach and Starbucks.

Going to take the DD to school soon LAST MIDTERM TODAY  . I just can't take the stress of these test anymonre I am so glad she will be done after today .

My DIS speed is much better today :woohoo: . :yay:

See everyone later :drive: Off I go

I don't "get" the "driving in circles" thing either :confused3 but Penny enjoys it, so does Lori and Tricia....well, it "does something" to Tricia ;) ...she really enjoys NASCAR! I think those are about the biggest fans of NASCAR we have here  We did the monster truck thing once...okay to do once, wouldn't do again....oh, and don't forget your ear protection :thumbsup2 (it can be quite loud!)

(I won't mention to you that my BFF works at a Coach outlet store around here either :rolleyes1 )

My DIS speed is also back to 'normal' too.....guess it was the mega-posts bogging it down? :confused3
