Hey guys.

Im devestated to say that Penny passed away about an hour ago. She was at the vets but so drugged up that she didn't know we wern't there so that's a blessing. She's at peace now.

As for me? Christmas is ruined.

Sorry Gemma, losing a pet is terrible, have been through it to many times myself.
You have my condolences.

Power went back on around 2AM, so it was a little more than 2 full days, thanks God for the generator, it was expensive, around $500 if I remember, but well worth it.

Sharon, I love our pellet stoves, I have 2, one in the house, one in my recording studio. A lot easier than a regular wood stove, and cheaper than oil.

:grouphug: So sorry to hear this Gemma. At least you got to see her again on this visit home. Lots of hugs that you get through this and still have some joy on Christmas. You have family to commiserate with too. Remember your angel  (sorry I don't have a dog angel!) - and we'll keep you in our prayers!

Gema, I'm sorry about Penny! :grouphug: We're all thinking about you. Here's some mummy/pixie dust for you: pixiedust:

i believe the only ones that have not received their ornabuddy are: marcie and tracie.

today has been a bummer for me.
and i don't feel very good about not addressing individually to all of you.
so much has happened in your lives and you have shared highlights today with us and i haven't made many comments.

no tree up yet, did medical tests, results sometime tomorrow, dad having surgery friday morning and i need to be there (doc now wants 2 blood relatives present before surgery for the "talk") and haven't done any shopping yet.........or baked, or food shopped or done cards yet.

Mac - sounds like you're a bit up since this post. Sorry I didn't get to express well-wishes for your dad earlier. Hope everything goes well Friday, including the driving!

Oh, and guess what? I got my ornabuddy today!   Thanks so much! Now I can actually join in the chat tomorrow. Yay!

not only do i need to be told what time to show up, i need to be told how to actually live chat:rolleyes1 i'm a dinosaur, don't know how to IM, etc. aren't there private rooms around here somewhere:3dglasses ? if so post a link - let's call it "DIS help for Dummy" i.e. me.

Glad I'm not the only one! Thanks to Barb too (I think!) for the help in how to do it. Never did chat before either!

Lori and Marcie, how is your weather holding up?

OOOOOHHHHHH.... I have to say my "I  Mitt Romney '08/Merry Fricking Christmakuh, Butt Face" bag arrived today, and it is all that I hoped for!

Weather is fine here! It actually got above freezing (well, a whopping 33!) today for the first time this month! I think I saw a snowflake melt! :cool1:

And I love your bag idea, if I didn't say that. I've used cafepress for doing similar things in the past. Be sure to let us know how it all turns out!

Hi Marci - It always makes me happy to hear about other kids making stupid decisions too! :rolleyes1 James got his first car not too long ago ( a hand me down from Grammie). When he got it, I told him to have an extra key made. Nagged him about it for a few weeks. Well, yesterday he went outside to warm up the car before school and preceeded to lock the keys in it. I let him stew about it for awhile, had him figure out what he was going to do. Than got out the extra key I had made. (Cause I knew this would happen!) He was pretty relieved. :lmao:

I try not to bore you guys with his college search. We're still waiting to hear from Rochester Inst of Tech. He got accepted to Embry-Riddle in Daytona. They offered him a $45K merit scholarship. He also got accepted at Worcester Poly Tech. They haven't mailed out their scholarships yet. I would like to see him go to Worcester (WPI) cause they belong to a consortium of 10 schools that he could take courses at. Plus WPI offers more engineering degrees. He would like to go to Embry cause he wants to get his private pilots license. Embry sits on the Daytona airport. It will be interesting to see which school he chooses. But I've warned him, seeing as I have a financial interest in this, if one school offers way more $$$$ than he needs to be seriously thinking of that school.
As Barb would say - Mommy brag ahead - James was 20 points short of a perfect score on his SAT's. He's scored 4 and 5's out of 5 on his AP exams and he's a presidential scholar for having a perfect score on his PSATs. So those darn schools better come up with some serious money for him!!! - Mommy brag over -

Wow! :cheer2: That is so awesome! As a mom of a teen trying to get to that point, I'm really impressed. Your son must be great at everything! My DS took the ACT last year as a freshman, and got a 34 out of 36 on the math portion - my goal for him would be to get a perfect in math by the time he takes it for real, but there's no way he'd ever do close to that in the verbal part. Same DS also wants to be a pilot - his goal is the Air Force Academy, but I didn't think about Embry Riddle. I actually took some grad classes through them (satellite campus type). Thanks for the suggestion and tell your son we're all really proud of him!

And I love your idea of making the key for him. Great thinking mom!

are we selling children now???

Got a couple teens, going really cheap!!;)

Good night all going to have to get offline for the night and to all that have said hi to me by my real name Lawrence thank you for making me feel welcome.:santa: :santa:

Hi Lawrence! And welcome! Sorry I didn't get to say hi earlier. Had to work again at work. Well, not really, but there were too many people around to get to go online instead. So got to pretend to work again - sigh! Hope to see you around more!

Daniel, however, has not showed any signs of improvement yet. We are still on a Tylenol/Motrin rotation every 3 hours with some scary fever spikes here and there. I am hoping that tomorrow will be the magic day where we see him start making some progress.

Best wishes again Tricia! If he isn't at least noticeably better in the morning, I'd definitely get him in again! It should be making some headway by then! Sorry he has to go through this and good luck getting some sleep tonight for both of you!

Hey everyone!

Quick hello and I gotta hit the sack.

Hope to see you on chat tomorrow night!

Gemma: so sorry to hear about the pup :grouphug:

He is most definately not great at everything. Most of his homework assignments are turned in late, probably only half done on top of that. And thats if he evens remembers he has homework.

Is the ACT more popular where you are than the SAT? Alot of colleges are heading towards not using the SAT and ACTs. Right now, quite a few are giving you the option. You have to show them thru essays and portfolios that you have what it takes to suceed there. Tufts wanted 4 different essays.

Embry Riddle has a large ROTC program if he is interested in that stuff. The school is doing a lot with homeland security right now. A growing field for sure.

Hey MAC!
No, you must have missed it... I'm selling my IOA CD on eBay. It ends in an hour and 19 minutes.

i found my vhs tapes that universal used to give out.
wanna sell my 3?
probably collector items now.

i know nothing about ebay except there are a lot of words to learn and figure out how the heck to do it.

hey Lawrence - u a trucker? Tuff job DH went into the steel mills (yep, we still have them) when he got out out of service/college & they were paying way more $ than he could find elsewhere.

fyi, i had my ebay auction pulled again:mad: for leftover SW credit. Must find the right category to slip it thru:rolleyes1 , will try travel-other this go-around.

i have no idea what you just said janet.
tell me in english please. pulled ebay..... auction...... ..again......category..... i know those words but it's like a foreign language to me.

Good night all going to have to get offline for the night and to all that have said hi to me by my real name Lawrence thank you for making me feel welcome.:santa: :santa:

we just love homies here lawrence. we really do.
it took awhile but this thread is a first for the UO forum threads.
a thread that is a chat room to talk about anything we want.
we only have one rule and that is to play nice.

you are so nice, you didn't have to know that rule.
you are one of us now!

and your turn to make the cupcakes for next friday for the group here......:rolleyes1

Mac - was thinking about it earlier today...

wanna try & get on a team for WAPASDI if they offer it again this year? :rotfl: :lmao:

DH thought of it & threatened me with dire consequences if i even think about itpopcorn:: be my support group-just say no:laughing:

are you outta of ya mind girl??

if you thought we could win and get real homies to be on the team, i think we could do it.....

Really quick again tonight. I really appreciate everyone's concern. I am doing much better. I guess Dr. Broomstick-for-a-Personality knew what he was doing with the pills he tossed my way.

Daniel, however, has not showed any signs of improvement yet. We are still on a Tylenol/Motrin rotation every 3 hours with some scary fever spikes here and there. I am hoping that tomorrow will be the magic day where we see him start making some progress.

it is so difficult to see our littles sick and no immediate improvement.
so sorry you and the family are going thru this tricia.

depending on the meds the doc gave you maybe they have to be in his system to build up to be effective.
the motrin and then tylenol every three hours is very effective.
when the temp spikes that is when the body is building resistance and immunity to the virus/bacteria a person has.

i would think he should show some signs of improvement within 48 hours.
if not, call the doctor and let him know.
also, talk to your pharmacist to ask what over the counter meds would be helpful.

do you need to run a vaporizer for him so he can sleep easier?

Sorry Gemma, losing a pet is terrible, have been through it to many times myself.
You have my condolences.

gemma, sometimes the words are hard to come by when a friend loses their pet. how about....... :grouphug:

come on everyone, lean in a little closer for the group hug for our girl.

gemma, don't let this ruin your christmas. you have your family and the holiday to be with each other. that is the greatest thing to have in your life.
they are hurting too.

Yeah - most people here aren't even conversant in SAT's. I think something like 4% of the kids take them - pretty much only those considering going out of state. Everyone takes the ACT. In Michigan it wasn't quite that bad, but still heavily weighted towards the ACT. I know out east it's the opposite. I went to college in NY and most people didn't even know what a good ACT score was!

My DS is actually very organized and would never consider not turning in homework, etc. But this is his first year with AP classes and it's been a rude awakening to him to actually have to DO homework and study!

well............i just asked one son to bring the tree box upstairs for me.

it's a start !

bubba's mom, can you post on the thread wednesday the day and time for the ornabuddy chat.

i just love that word you created.
ornabuddy.....

pretty soon, we will make up our own language.

happy wednesday homies.

it's really wednesday and i'm still waiting for that one son of mine to bring the tree box upstairs from the basement.

i'm tempted to go shopping and buy coal

.............anyone still up?

1.gif
...anyone here yet??

it has taken me forever and a day to post here this morning.
i bet the same thing is happening to you too.

Hi Mac - I'm here off and on. Slow day at work today.

Can you explain to me what WAPASDI is?

do you mean the acronym it stands for?

i would have to google it as i was very depressed when we got booted out of the contest.

keisha was on the team i was.
she would know.
she knows everything !

it was a game created by pete warner.
teams were selected thru an application process.
some tag prizes along the way at the before the start of the game.
hence where i got one of my tags.

the dis practically shut down late last night/early morning that is.
seems like it is picking up now.

NEVERMIND.........i'll list it here.

What does WPASADI stand for?

WPASADI (Wha - pa - sod - dee) stands for Wickedly Perfect Amazing Surviving Apprentice DIS Idol. It is an online reality based contest where DISers start out in teams competing against each other in creative challenges. The projects are judged by a team of "celebrity" judges and given scores. The Team with the highest score wins immunity and each of its team members are safe for another week. The other teams then have to hold a "Tribal Council" where they each anonymously vote someone off their team. Eventually the game hits a certain point where it becomes every DISer for themselves. At that point you will be completing individual challenges in hopes to make it to the end as the ULTIMATE WPASADIan!

Geez the DIS is S...L...O...W... this morning!

First, Gemma I am SO sorry to hear you lost your Penny. I can't make it all better, so :grouphug:

And, Raven I am sorry you are going through all the stuff you're going through. I can't make that all better either, so :grouphug:

Where is that friggin magic wand that can make everything all better? I asked for one right after Joshua was born, but it still hasn't arrived.

I am cautiously optimistic this morning. Daniel seems to be a bit better. His fever is still there, but it isn't getting scary high. When it would spike, he'd become a lump... flushed cheeks, glassy eyes, shallow breathing... seriously frightening stuff. I kept checking temp every few minutes during those times and watching for signs of difficulty breathing. Not fun.

Anyway, he is up and alert this morning. Still sick, but at least moving around the room and acting more normal. He has been glued to my lap for over 2 days, so just seeing him walking is a big deal!
