Mac - Sharon said she wanted in on the exchange too. I want bonus points for going back and making sure. Her post was #7151. Wait, we're not keeping score? I don't get credit?

Katie - That is some display on your house! Very festive without crossing over into that Griswald overdone zone.

I think I have decided NOT to post pictures of my house once I decorate it. After seeing Janet's Halloween decorations, and now Katie's for Christmas... my few lights and inflatable snowglobe would be an embarrassment.

Okay most years we do a real tree. We go out to the Christmas tree farm and cut our own. Occasionally we buy one that is live and replant it, been a few years since we have done that though. Then there are the years that I just don't feel like messing with it and we put up a fake tree.

Tracie - I hope the pup is okay soon. What kind of poisoness spiders do you guys have up that way?

Tricia - You just may have us up your way in a few years. We can't leave home though until DH's folks are no longer with us, it would kill them if we took their grandbabies away.

Janet - they sound like lovely neighbors!

Katie & Jennifer - DH was just saying it was good while it lasted; he was off all week too and really dreading going back.

Mac - I think Marcie said she wanted in on the exchange.

Penny - Sorry about your Giants. Of course I don't really care for Eli and it doesn't surprise me that he flaked again.

Barb - Glad you got to spend the whole day at home relaxing. We left for dad's for our Turkey Day with him and mom at 10:00 and got home about 6:00. We were supposed to eat at 12:00 and no one but dad, me, dh & the kids were there until almost 1:00. Mom cooked everything at her house and transported it to dad's. It was a good day though, the first time we were together as a family for a holiday in 14 years.

So what are housing values like in everyones part of the country?
The going rate here for new construction and anything built in the last 10 years is $110/sq ft at a minimum. Our house has doubled in value since it was built just 6 years ago. Land is at least $10000 an acre if you can find it. The thing is that there is absolutely nothing here. No stores, no restaurants, no nothing and we are at least 25 minutes from anywhere. Way to far out for the big city to be a suburb. It's just a small hick town that does not want to grow. The land is all owned by farmers (primarily dh's aunt & cousin) and they aren't selling.

The good thing about it is that we have a great small town school district. Lets just hope it can stay that way until we get out of here.

And, I'm with Penny... none of the male-types that post on our thread are interested in our ornament exchange?!? What, is it too girly? Did Barb & I frighten them all with our discussion of not wearing underwear when we're home?

Okay, my feelings are hurt! I signed up TWICE (at least my name was on the list twice last time!) and now I got bumped! Boy, you leave this thread for 5 days and everyone forgets all about you!

Well, we're back and although I'd love to catch up on the 15 pages I missed since Wednesday morning - not going to happen tonight! Quick synopsis - horrible weather/traffic and drive out Wednesday (over 12 hours to do a normal 8 hour drive!), fun visit with family and friends, smooth & easy drive back today!

I'll try to catch up tomorrow some, but I also have to go through my 89 emails, and tomorrow we have a "planning the rest of your life" conference for DS15 with him and his guidance counselor in the morning and then work in the afternoon so who knows when! Thanks to those of you who still remember me!

Oh, and the guys had a BLAST at the Packers/Lions game (obviously!). Some highlight quotes:

Lions fan: "Go back to Wisconsin!"
DH: We're going back Sunday!

Lions fan: "Get a life!"
DH: Get a team!

Another Packers fan: Wow - where'd you get the cheeseheads?
DH: Um...Walmart in Green Bay?

And DH and DS sat in the "Family Fun Section" (no profanity or alcohol). Said as the beer guy came around (they were on the very edge), he'd yell "Beer, beer", then when he got to their section "Happy Thanksgiving Family People!"

Funny line in the Detroit News today talking about Brett Favre's age along the lines of "Brett Favre is so old that he remembers when the Lions were good! Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration!"

Welcome back Marcie! Glad you survived the trip and had fun to boot!

I haven't bought my ornament yet. I was waiting to see who I get and then shop with that person in mind. Of course, some I know better than others, but I thought it might help. There are SO many varieties of ornaments out there. Pretty, funny, childish, sweet, goofy, religious, generic...
