Happy New Year everyone!

I'm off to cook the traditional New Years Day dish for our area. Black eye peas (for luck), turnip greens (for prosperity), and pork loin (just because it goes with peas and greens).

Thats our tradition also!!:thumbsup2 But for some resone I couldnt find any mustard greens(my fav)this year..

I put smoked ham hocks in my black eye peas. There almost done!!!

I have been sooooo lazy today. I went to the grocery store to wake up! :rotfl:

Oh, you have to put smoked pork of some variety in with most peas or beans. It just isn't any good otherwise. :thumbsup2

In a pinch, I've been known to cheat and add the Goya pork pasteles to the water instead of real pork. It's kinda like pork boullion. It is a good substitute if you can't find the real thing.

:grouphug: KUMBAYA, my Lord, Kumbayaaaaaaaah.
Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbayaaaaaaaaah.

Okay, enough of that. Happy New Year to everyone!

Bonny, I love your Halloween countdown. Never too early to look forward to the things you love.

I'm not a native of the south, so I had no idea there was a traditional meal. I'm off to the grocery store to get sandwich stuff for tonight and ingredients for tomorrow's dinner. Like I'll have the energy to make it.

First I have two hours of physical therapy. :rotfl2: He's not laughing, he's rolling around screaming in pain.

Then I have to take the dogs in for their shots. I have to take them seperately because I can't hold both of them AND keep Jonathan from running into the street.

Then math and language arts with Jared. We can't fit much else in on PT days.

Then laundry. Again. Forever. :laundy: Why in the world is that smiley smiling about laundry...? Must be trying to hide something. Or she's just off her rocker NUTS.

Dinner tomorrow is a maybe at this point. Sandwiches again, anyone?

where have you been hiding Sharon?
do you still have your college son home with you?

just think, after work tomorrow, the weekend begins..........................woo hoo....

Yep, son still home. In fact, he has 12 of his closest friends over right now. :thumbsup2 I just fed them, so their pretty quiet at the moment! I had heard thru the grapevine (DD) that a couple of the kids were going to be bringing alcohol. :headache: So far so good, I laid down the law and DH has been checking in on them occasionally.

We finished off the basement awhile back and made a room for the kids to hang out in. Air hockey table, darts, big TV, comfy couches. I enjoy seeing the kids friends grow up. Most of them are in college now, so I've learned a lot about their respective colleges and heard lots of stories of college life! :scared1:

Not hiding, just busy with mom in cast and stepdad still in the rehab center. I've got Friday off, so nice long weekend for me. I sure do need it.

Sounds like a crock pot meal day!

Do you ever watch Cesar Milan? The dog whisperer. He makes it look so easy to handle multiple dogs!

College students alone in the basement.Reminds me of that 70's show.:lmao: Keep a eagle eye on them,if not they will be a kegger going on before Ya know!!:lmao: I'm sorry Im thinking of my college years!!Good luck!!

Hmmm, don't think I've ever had smoked pork and I haven't even heard of pork pasteles.....heck, I went to two large grocery stores last week looking for Old Bay seasoning. Never did find it. Had to make my shrimp cocktail without it Lobster and scallops or shrimp are pretty traditional here in Maine for New Years..

I screwed up the name. It is Goya Ham, not pork. Here is what I'm talking about:

It is on the international food aisle in my grocery store. Near the Mexican foods.

There are several envelopes that come in a box. Add one envelope to the water when cooking dried beans or peas. Yum!
