Something About Nothing..........#6

Afternoon all ...

Mac - we live 45 min from the airport here - for us it's cheaper to drive and park for the time we're down in FL than to take a taxi or car service. As for flights, I'd love to get a flight for under $300/pp but it seems that prices are just increasing rather than decreasing ... the cost for our October flight is at $700/pp :sad2:

Niki - I agree - get your Universal tix now

Hi Everyone!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! I already see my hair turning a bit red ;)

I realize I need to explain my "running at Disney" comment -- DH and I have done the WDW Half Marathon for the past two years, and it's the only time he's happy (ok, agreeable) to set foot on Disney property. For some reason it just completely annoys him, yet he's happy as a clam at Universal and Seaworld. I can't explain it, but it's easier to just go with it for this trip. ::yes::

I'm starting to look into airfare, too. We don't fly out until the end of August. JetBlue changed our flights this Jan for marathon weekend, and we ended up arriving later and leaving earlier...but I'm still pretty sure we'll stay with them. The tv is priceless with ds11. Anyway, there are three flights during each window when we want to leave/arrive, and I'll be surprised if they don't get consolidated into one or two. The trick is knowing which one to pick so you're sure to get the seats you want. If anyone has a crystal ball...:wizard:

I also have to look at Tampa and Orlando. We'll spend a few days in Tampa with my SIL at the beginning of our trip, so it really doesn't matter where we fly in and out, we're going to be in Tampa and Orlando no matter what.

Maria :surfweb:

Never heard of Yapta - what does it do? Is it just a way to find cheaper fares or is it a commitment-type one?

What kind of weather are you expecting down there Mac? Still saying 8-10 inches here, starting as ice, sleet & freezing rain just in time to make my ride home from work miserable tonight!

I am signed up with Watch Dog and Yapta.
I do the daily emails so I can catch the best and lowest prices on where I want to go.
It is free to sign up. You list the city or cities you would fly out of and the destinations. you get regular alerts on sales.
marci, you should look into it.

yea, our weather suxs big time too.

HEY GUYS!!!!! LOOK WHOS BACKKK!!!!

Oh my its been ages since I've been on here...I forgot where the Universal side of the boards were...then I forgot how to write a message but I've got the hang of it!!

Still at uni but my lovely boyfriend (oh yes I have a boyfriend now!!!) has got me internet so I can finally come back on here!!!

Really busy with uni work and my part time job but loving every second of it!

Going on holiday with my friends hopefully to cancun in june then off to FLORIDA in July!!! yayyyyyy!! Will have been 2 years since Ive been and I cant actually wait!!! Wanted to bring the boy but flight prices are extortionate so were going to go away in September to Greece.

So how is everyone?? Let me in on the goss!!

Lots of loves

Gemma xxx

so this is why you never answered my pm's to youse....
and all this time i thought you were still lying in the ditch...
good to see you gemma.

You may want to check into how much it is to park there...or, park n fly package at a nearby hotel. Drive to the hotel late the night before and you leave your car at the hotel. Use hotel shuttle back and forth to airport.

Sounds like you may score a decent airfare this year yet. Good luck!!

none of that is financially feasible for me, wish it were, but it's not.
the parking at midway for the cheapest long term parking is $180 for me.
and then i have to catch a 25 minute shuttle to the airport. the park and fly only has 7 or 14 days to pick and rooms run from $135 + tax and up.
i don't know how much the charge for the extra day for parking.

o'hare not worth it either. depending on the lot i would use would be either $9-13-16 per day. base that on 15 days and still not good for me.
would take a shuttle or taxi from those lots to the terminal.

doing the stay overnight and shuttle in to the terminals would cost me more.

I can get car service for less than doing the park and fly promos.

i put a fare on a 24 hour hold with aa earlier today.
i'll probably go with that and pay it off next month.
one less thing to deal with then.

Good afternoon homies
Mac I know what you are going thru cause the nearest airport we use is about 30 miles away and we have the same dilema cause it costs $40 dollars each way for a taxi and to park at airport is going to be about $60 to $100
So what to do :confused3

doing laundry is one of my hobbies.
or that is what Mr Mac says to me...

i'm glad that you are starting to feel better. thanks for checking in

a few on the thread have mentioned they have been ill or a family member has been ill.

so far, none of the germs have come thru my monitor and attacked me.

 DS came home with the ick--high fever and vomiting.

DD has been home again today. Scratch the part that I wrote the other day about not whining for anything--she saved it all for today.:lovestruc :worship:

Between the 2 sickies--I'm tired.

When I stopped by the high school to pick up missed work, only about 400 kids missed today--an improvement.:goodvibes

Hubby has tomorrow off and the weekend, so I hope they both get better and we can do something or go somewhere.:)

I'm just sick...I was watching my television just now and the picture went out! I get no picture at all...nothing. The sound is good but I'm thinking the picture tube is gone.

I don't know if I should repair it or get a new one. It's a 27" Toshiba that's about 10 years old and has never given me any trouble at all.

What should I do?

i think you got your money's worth on it if it has been good the last ten years.

sometimes it takes more to fix an older electronic than buy a new one with extra added to it.

it all depends if parts are available for your present set.

if you know what is wrong, do a search to see if the part can be obtained.
if not, consider replacing it.

if it were me, i would push for a new one.

I'd say get a new one ... would probably cost you as much to fix it as it would cost to buy a new one ... I think I saw a 32" flat screen at Best Buy for about $400US (give or take a few $$ considering the exchange rate and my bad calculations ... LOL)

Yeah...I'm thinking a new one too mainly because of the reasons stated. Plus I'm not sure if there are a whole lot of people working on them.

I really can't more than a 27" because of the unit I have but I guess I could go bigger if need be. I just don't know.

Hey metro,just left Wal-Mart they had a 32'' flat screen(not lcd or plasma)for $299!!
Believe me you got your money out of that old one.
We got too buy one seems like everyother year!!The kids think its fine to watch it when lightning is popping every second outside in the summer!!!:sad2:

I think the flat screens come in 26" :thumbsup2

Plus, considering that it's 10 yrs. old, it might not work with all of the new digital changes that they are forcing on the American public at taxpayer's expense.

Yes...I'm looking at Best Buy since I have a charge account there.

True...very true.

The bad part of that analog switch is I got A TV from my aunt that must date back too the 60's.It has A record player,30" TV it looks like A great big hutch.Everything works on it-even the rabbit ears..:lmao:
I should put it on E-Bay and make some money. But it holds senntimental value!!

OK homies I'm out of here,Have A great night...:goodvibes

Todd...sorry to hear about yer tv...I agree...time for a new digital :thumbsup2 Electronics are made to be disposable, it would cost just as much to fix as getting a new one. Look on the bright side, at least it's at tax time (hopefully you get a rebate ;) )

Turning in soon....not feeling worse...guess resting today did the trick :thumbsup2

My DH's uncle gutted the TV out of the consol and put in a new flat screen in the box. It looks great, plus he didn't have to buy a new stand.
