On a funny note, as I carried in today's cartload full, I was glancing through them and saw one from Harvard. I was like
"Wow - I've heard of that one!" Then I saw it was addressed to my husband. Ended up being some sort of business symposium thing. Oh well!
just got word that Harvard now has/instituting soon a program wherein no family is expected to pay more than 10% of their income to send their spawn there...evidently, they've gotten a rep as being elitist
Janet - I think I'd be asking the DS how HE's going to pay for the trip! I remember in 8th grade when I desperately wanted to go to Washington DC with my class. My folks never even mentioned the possibility of them paying any of it. I babysat about a zillion hours a week (back when we made a whole $1 an hour!) to be able to afford to go! Yeah, I know, realistically you could talk matching funds or something, but that's a lot of money!
we did discuss it, he worked caddying as much as they offered last year when 14-15, wants to do both that & another gig this summer (just not much out there in this economy
). I did say i'd do matching funds (was planning on more like 2/3rds-unbenowst to him- jik he didn't make his goal & he was agreeable, i just don't see him earning even $1k in time. They have a weird system of payments & there is a huge cancellation penalty...evidently, just the way the trips r set up? What put me off was when i said we could allocate majority of birthday & Xmas 'funds' towards the trip...thought he'd faint
said he didn't want to give that up. Guess he's not going then, evidently; not as important to him as he portrayed.
Eric's doing okay today - didn't go to school because he was too tired and hurt too much. Yes, he was milking it for all it's worth.
R&R day
Meanwhile Stephen came home sick insisting he's dying and knows he has strep or mono while I tried to explain he seemed to have a good old-fashioned cold! Staying clear of him!
winter doldrums i think
Have a good day tomorrow everyone! I have an eye doctor appointment, work, then conferences all evening so may not be here much!
busy day indeed
My DD took the SAT in 8th--(she scored better than 60% of the seniors taking nationwide that year

Let's hope she doesn't forget everything when she has to take it for real) I know what you mean about being deluged.
Seems kinda crazy when you see the news and it daily reports how colleges are struggling and giving out less financial aid.
Glad Eric is doing better. The CRUD is going around. DD came home pale as a sheet and skipped ballet to sleep.
eek another sickie
have u filled out the FRSA yet...i felt the blood draining
donations down & scholarship endowments feeling pinch re interest rates
banks in PA will not longer loan money for Community College, going to hurt alot of kids
cannot imagine how they came up with such a high price to stay in DC for a week - Ritz Carlton lol
Marci...thanks for the tip...will remember to not check that box! Besides, if you have a few colleges in mind, why bother with info from other schools?
need to apply to as many as u can, never know what scholarship pkgs they'll come up with...especially the private schools. I wasn't thrilled when oldest decided to go to private school (robert morris) as a day student when the price was way more than PITT staying in a dorm

. The pkg they came up with (no grants, etc.) wound up being less than PITT as day student & he was happy w/teachers & smaller class size plus better rep/placement for his major - sports management
good day all
