Something About Nothing............ #14

Quick good evening post. Not much going on around here.

Charade: Congratulations on your game and a great record of 9-0!!! I miss going to my kids games when they were in high school. We never missed a game. The grandkids did not get into sports, so no games for us lately.
Thanks. I never cared much for football in the past, but it has been fun going to the games this year. We are season ticket holders and our seats are on the front row at the 40 yard line., A couple of dh's students are on the team. One of them always greets him at each game.

Yesterday, I had a big urge to bake! I don't usually get like that, but bake occasionally because the family loves it:) I baked 2 apple pies and also a Texas Brownie for the gang at my daughters house for hunting. The Texas brownie is Huge and I use a large jelly roll pan for them. They must be kept in the fridge and are a great chocolate treat.
Sounds yummy. I have been asked to bring an apple pie to Thanksgiving dinner. I hate making them, but love eating them.

Wait, people actually start to cook dinner after 6 pm? Can’t remember the last time I did that. Of course, we only eat two meals and usually hangry by at least 5 pm.
We sometimes start after 6 depending on dh's schedule. He takes a martial arts class 3 times a week. On 2 of the days the class starts at 8 pm. He used to always ask me if I wanted to eat dinner before or after his class. It took awhile, but I think I finally convinced him that I never want to eat dinner between 9:30 and 10:00.

I`d love to see that when you`ve completed it, they are stunning to see.
I hope to have it finished by Christmas since it is to be a gift, but it has been slow going.

Caught a flu bug and came home Sunday but had a great day at IOA.
Hope you are feeling better now.

My oldest son and his wife have been married over ten years and expecting a baby by the end of the year.
Congratulations! December babies are awesome.

Any homies making plans for your next vacation to UO?l
No plans yet, but I want to go again at least once next year since I bought a seasonal pass. I am interested in what the new park will have to offer.

I have all the Christmas decorations up.
Wow, we just started talking about when we want to do that. Our neighbors have suggested that our 2 families do something together. We need to talk to them again and see if they have any ideas.

We have had amazing northern light shows the past few nights.
I'm envious. I want to see them, but I don't want to deal with the cold.

I don’t wear crocs because I have too narrow a foot. I usually buy nike sneakers as they tend to run narrow. Can’t wear most adidas sneakers as they seem to run wide to me.
I am your opposite. I have fat feet. I tend to shop New Balance and Skechers since they have wide widths. I have recently discovered some of the higher end brands also have wide widths.

Speaking of shoes, I have had much less heel pain since I bought a higher quality athletic shoe and was properly fitted. I hated spending the money, but they were so worth it.

Let’s just say the day was such that I indulged after picking up An RX at target CVS.

Sometimes you need a carmel brûlée frappe just to soldier on the rest of the day

Saw this today, coming this spring :cloud9:

Of course it does, a perfect distraction
From the impending jab

My super power: I can rationalize nearly anything

I toss them, brand new, into
A hot dryer with a couple of old towels for a minute at a time. The Idea being to soften them enough to stretch out on my feet for custom
Enlargement of width. Helpful as the broken one healed wider than the other :bitelip:

Now, I don`t really go to those coffee shops, but that would tempt me to visit!! Seems we don`t have that flavour over here. I think there is a caramel one at Starbucks, but we have Costa which have just brought out their Christmas menu and there is a toasted sandwich, flavoured coffee and a hot chocolate we want to try.

Does that really work? I`ll give it a bash. According to my friend the surgeon, I have the most average foot.....not too fat and not too thin which can be bad either way, call me Goldilocks!!!! I still have one smaller pair up in the back of my closet somewhere.

Tom just saw the ad for that movie last night, as long as it`s better than the one with all ladies, that was not funny!!! We`ll give it a bash.

I adore everything in Epcot, except the long lines to where I only move inches.

I think the beautiful drinks that Caroline has been showing in her TR would entice me back to Epcot, other than that I can`t remember much about it. We did do one of those firework cruises back in either 07 or 08. But, can`t see us going back to Disney anytime soon.

The Northern lights are so amazing, it would be worth the cold, and I loathe being cold. We are seeing them a lot more these last few years very clear in the UK. I`m still sorry we missed them in Norway years ago, but not sure we`ll ever go back again.

Good quality shoes are the way to go especially when you`re doing a lot of walking like in the parks, we all ramp up those miles when we do them. They don`t need to be specific, just good quality, glad you noticed the difference and once you find a brand that suits you it feels like you won the lottery.

Look forward to seeing it when it`s done Charade.

I went to bed just before 9 last night, I was so tired, Tom says I get up far too early and he`s right, there`s no need to get up early, but it`s the habit of a lifetime. So many of my friends are the same so it`s certainly nothing special or worth bragging about, but not sure why I got so tired last night. However, I never heard Tom get into bed, not sure when he came up and I slept solidly for almost 10 hours.

Sky looks lovely as it starts to get light over here this morning, very unexciting grocery shopping this morning, expecting a parcel to be delivered today, but it`s already that time of year things get delayed, so wouldn`t be surprised if it comes on Saturday.

Looking forward to the weekend, hair appointment on Saturday morning, finally sent her a txt yesterday and she can do an early appointment then we get the trees and decorations up.

One of my friends has a massive open hallway, it is huge in the real sense of huge and I keep telling her she needs a 35 foot tree in there......she just laughs and reminds me they`re Jewish......lol.....I don`t forget they don`t celebrate anything Christmas, I just think her hallway would look amazing with a tree, it`s like a hotel entrance!

But, boring shopping this morning, but it`s nice all the shops are filled with Christmas things and we pick up something every visit, well, it`s what we do isn`t it.

Chicken stuffed with Brie and cranberry tonight, breasts will be wrapped in bacon too, mini roast potatoes and some kind of veg, see what we pick up at the farm store. No idea for lunch but poached egg on toast for breakfast.

One week to got for us now......

But, meantime happy Thirsty Thursday.......🍹

Ooh, so neat, when I left the house, saw the crescent moon, Venus and the very early start of the sunrise. Beautiful clear sky. And no jacket. Was 45 when I left, but going to 70 by the time I leave.

But ah, in the city again. Still dark enough out, as it is still in that pre dawn darkness.

And so, thirsty I was. Made tea from hot water from a bottle tap. Perfectly hot. And then I changed my door from this:

To this:

And hehe, on our break table in the hall my office is in, still has a big bowl of Halloween candy.

But as it’s a Thirsty Thursday, do your part and enjoy a drink throughout the day. Good to always be in that perfect hydration.

And yep, Charade. Agree, good to find a shoe that fits well, even at the best you can afford. I always bring at least another pair of sneakers when I do park fun trips. I like changing every couple of days, and if the one pair gets wet or dirty enough, I have another pair to wear.

Forgot to give a saluting woot! Good to be that lower priced cruise, Keisha, even if last minute almost. Crazy how some cruise prices change as it sells. But a little yay for me. Got SW down to $95 down and $110 back. And had credits to make that price even lower. Had no issue getting roundtrip early bird either. Going over today, to get our tickets. We are too looking forward to next months holiday fun. And two of the three holiday popcorn holders are so cute, I may try to get the one during the party. I’m hoping they have them available when ours is. Thankfully, our party is still not sold out. But am very glad I scored a candle processional dining reservation. Seems now cannot get any time during our stay.

Back to routine I go. Good morning all.

Early hours here, an unusual event with Venus being exceptionally close to the moon and got closer as the morning went on, this picture was taken very early.

Later we shoud have seen what is known as the Lunar occultation of Venus, rather unusually around 9.30am our time the moon passes in front of Venus, a rare phenomenom indeed. So, around 4.30am for most on EST in the States. Sadly despite blue skies we had cloud by then and it was quite low we never saw it, would be too light to see it properly in this part of the world, although I`m sure the experts got pictures.

i-vmxrjjm-X2.jpg

I`m not sure if the astronomer of the family managed to capture a picture or not.

Cold but sunny here, beautiful afternoon, we did plan to go a walk, but Tom was asked if he could volunteer, so off he popped after lunch leaving me to do some pottering around on my own.

So far I`ve cleaned all the insides of the downstairs windows at the front, sun is at the back now, so not worth atempting those, and apart from that, not much else.

Writing a list of all the things we take for friends in Orlando and thinking of what we want to bring home this time, trying to be organised. Just not much going on right now, living too quietly.

Well, pot of tea for one, slice of cherry bakewell, I didn`t bake that, one of my friends did and gave me some away yesterday, very lush!!!

There’s not much that would keep me away from visiting FL, even to point we’ve hunkered down for a few storms there in the fall, despite knowing they were on the way.

however, this is all I need to see to be content in my decision to live in the north
IMG_1542.jpeg
Jr has his Friendsgiving coming up. I make multiple side dishes for the gang. One guest who leans towards vegetarian, requested I make a sweet potato/yam mashed casserole using canned yams.

Fully admit that would be a first for me. Just not my thing texturally or using canned veggies that way. Did go out and buy multiple large cans Yesterday when i picked up the two 22# big birds. One for him, one foR me.

All I need is to find a recipe. Know there is that one with marshmallows etc on top (again, not my thing, i bypass that on buffet tables). Anyone have any ideas there?

have a bunion on one foot that drives me nuts.
The mesh on the ride 15 is stretchy and very forgiving. Try them on. They do run narrow, most need to buy the wide version
We sometimes start after 6 depending on dh's schedule
my mr worked 3 rotating shifts. he liked dinner early after the daylight shift. 4:30 to 5 pm became the norm. Even when he was on other shifts.

my family quickly learned how to use the microwave If they weren’t at the table at the duly designated time.
Does that really work? I`ll give it a bash. According to my friend the surgeon, I have the most average foot.....not too fat and not too thin which can be bad either way, call me Goldilocks!!!! I still have one smaller pair up in the back of my closet somewhere.
Yes, just be careful to not let them sit in the hot dryer, nor forget the towels or you will find yourself cleaning off rubber from the dryer tub. Don’t ask how i know lol
she just laughs and reminds me they`re Jewish......lol
the Jewish people I know are not particularly observant. Their holidays tend to be a blending of everything. Menorah right next to a xmas tree. Kids getting gifts during the lighting nights and on xmas eve. Best of both worlds there Lol

One week to got for us now
Woo
hoo
too

Got SW down to $95 down and $110 back
Cool, are those weekend dates?

I won’t share what my after thanksgiving one is down. It is one of the lowest I’ve seen for that regular time period we travel. Still, they are gouging.

rates for June/july came out of gate on SW a few weeks ago as $600 RT pp. just starting to drop. I may book the portion down as it’s around $150 pp last i checked.
And two of the three holiday popcorn holders are so cute, I may try to get the one during the party
Haha i put a moratorium on buying any new popcorn buckets this year. Well, unless the mr really sees one he must have to add to the collection.

The only one we have is a Mickey one we bought years ago at Christmas. He’s a Christmas soldier, and we use him for just keeping some stuff. Never popcorn after first having it in there. I try not to buy much, but can’t pass one up if it looks as cute as picture shows, Keisha. Just paid off my hotel, so woot! Getting that much closer for us. Yay for getting those turkeys. I make sweet potatoes for older one. I never use marshmallows, but that’s because he doesn’t like them. I just put them in a pan and put them in the oven to cook. I’ve used canned and fresh. He doesn’t care, as he likes both. The canned cooks faster, so that’s what I usually use. Salt, pepper and a little brown sugar is all I add. I’m not a fan, so other than regular mashed, is the only potatoes I eat. When I get fresh, I nuke them like a regular potato, and older one eats it like a white potato, with butter and salt. Time of year when it’s starting to when I see a box of those sweet potatoes cheap.

Ooh getting ready for my lunchtime walk. Change from my heels to sneakers.

The one I make is very sweet Janet, and so simple, it`s just sweet potato though.

4 large sweet potatoes diced and boiled, but I roast them till soft instead, it`s much nicer and less watery, 1/3rd cup butter, 1/3rd cup real maple syrup, 1 tsp vanilla paste, some sea salt... I even put American measurements.....lol....she adds some cinammon, but I prefer it without.

The girl who gave me the recipe had a pecan maple topping on it, but I leave that out as I don`t like nuts. Whip everything together and layer with mini marshmallows and bake until they`re lightly golden. It reheats well too.

That snake freaks me out!!! I try not to think of them being everywhere, but when one pops out in front of you, lol.....

My friends are strict Jewish followers. No bacon, no Christmas, although since Kyle was younger she always got him a gift nearer Christmas, she adores him though so she didn`t want to miss him out. They always come to our Boxing night get together when we did them regularly, but there was nothing to that except a lot of friends getting together, nothing religious at all.

I won`t ask with the dryer, though I can guess......lol......I`ll give it a try, just a few minutes????

Pitch black here now, have stuffed and wrapped the chicken breasts waiting to be cooked, have chopped some veg, diced potatoes and coated them in some old bay seasoning, we can get that readily available here now in one of our main grocery stores. There`s still plenty we bring back from the States though food wise.

Should be a nice dinner, chicken is quite large so I doubt we`ll look for anything later after eating those.

Parcel hasn`t arrived, as expected....maybe tomorrow :)

I wish I was ready to go home too Charade. Too quiet, but think it’s because day before a holiday Friday. Was nice, as lunchtime walking with my sunglasses. Here’s hoping we both get to go home sooner than later.

We have mixed family friends, she is very southern so seasonal decorations are mandatory. They put up a beautiful Holiday tree with Christmas and Hanukkah decorations. Silver and blue predominantly but the decorations are Christmas and little dreidels etc..
I love holidays period.

just a few minutes????
I let it run hot with the dry towels first, then add the crocs & check after a minute. Often another required.

If they get too jelly like lol just let them set until they firm up and start over
little dreidels
All my kids played the dreidel game. They were exposed in school celebrations. All were fascinated by the gelt aspect of it. They started out playing for the chocolate candy ones in gold wrappers. Now they play for small change lol

I do appreciate the recipe conversion lol. Never thot to layer mini marshmallows between layers of the mashed sweet taters.

I’ll prob add the usual dried spices I toss in my regular ones (nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger). Maybe do a dry run first.

I make a maple topping for ice cream. Thinking that might be a good add on after it bakes.

Woot! Alarm off.

Hehe, showed DH what was free for tomorrow and Saturday. Saw breakfast one for tomorrow, so nice to enjoy breakfast out with him. Free burger on Saturday, so I guess lunch or dinner out. Most likely lunch. And even nicer for all the family, free coffee for all of us on Saturday at Wawa.

DH passed out watching tv, at around 8 this evening. I took off his glasses and let him sleep. Guess he’ll come to bed when he wakes up. Or maybe not. He’s slept in the chair more than once. And yay, get control of the tv. No noisy movie I get. Though not much on of interest already.

Hope all have a most restful night. Friday happiness feeling, even nicer when it’s a holiday lazy day one.

I like the sweet potato casserole with the little marshmallows. You can leave the nuts off though.

Is it time to go home yet? I’ve been working on scheduling for next year. It’s almost as bad as dealing with insurance.

Yes, anything with nuts is not for me, unless they`re dry roasted and seasoned to have as a , them I can eat, but not right now.

Hope your day went quickly.

I`ll give it a try.....I`m imagining that jelly blob on opneing the dryer!!! I`ll stand over it, do you put your feet in them to make sure they`re stretched to shape...if that makes sense???

Yes, layered is lovely. I add ginger depending on who will be eating it as many don`t like it, I forgot you did like ginger, but yes, any maple topping would work as a drizzle. It is very sweet, but most folks take a small amount, it does compliment main dishes nicely though, I love it!!

Will let you know about the crocs, might get a chance this afternoon to do it.

Another early night for me last night, I blame the cold for making me sleepy! Never mind Carole the original lizard....I`m more like a hibernating bear now the cold has kicked in!!!

Busy morning for us, back into the town to pick up my glasses again, and try and avoid those lovely goody stalls on their farmers market today. I`ll pop into the card shop as I want to pick up some gift bags, seems I`m short of some for gifts this year. Have a few gifts wrapped for Christmas but hoped to be further on than I am before we left.

I`ll be able to pick up some stuff in America.......including those Tide pens that are so sought-after by so many of my friends over here!! Bath & Body works too!!

Heavy rain this morning so hope it goes off by the time we go out which will be quite early, then we`ll pop into the farm and pick up the large lasagne dish from them, that`s never a short visit bless them.

Made the meat sauce last night for a lasagne for Tom and I tonight, so dinner is sorted, just need to layer it and make the cheese sauce for the top, Tom wants garlic bread, I`ll make some for him, but salad will do me, lunch for me is a shrimp cocktail wrap, Tom will pick up some meat from the deli this morning, like a pastrami, but their own style, he`ll have an Italian style sandwich with that, I have some roasted peppers and courgette to be pressed on it too. Quick breakfast of muffins and fruit. And have a new tea to try....I`m letting it infuse right now, smells very fresh.

Friday again though...even us happily retired folks love that weekend feeling when it hits!!

Happy Friday :)

Happy Friday and Happy Birthday to the USMC!
Half day today and making some white chocolate and cranberry covered toffee later.
Wish I could enjoy y'alls sweet potato pies but root vegetables and I are rarely compatible for some reason.

Hehe, showed DH what was free for tomorrow and Saturday.
Lol making those runs for vet freebies. We haven’t bothered in years, just can’t deal with the crowds.

Bugs me that most operate on an honor system, seems to have morphed into a if it’s free it’s for me melee
Will let you know about the crocs, might get a chance this afternoon to do it.
Oh, def put them on ur feet, then make the necessary adjustments via gently pulling on the straps

The mr reminded me I did make a sweet tater casserole ages ago his mom loved. Had a can of apple pie filling in it of all things. May look for that one

Haven’t made pasta in ages. That sounds good. Went with club sandwiches and homemade potato soup yesterday.

Today, probably take out for us as a late, far flung specialist appt with middle DS. He’s been feeling poorly for weeks. GI dr to go over test results the pcp ran.

Snagged a cancellation appr yesterday afternoon. It’s So far from home, Easy 1-1/2 hr drive in an area I’m unfamiliar. No idea our medical system had satellite offices so far flung. Appears in an office complex tucked way off highway. Guess we will leave early lol

Good day all!

Ooh toffee, yum, Junkie. Though have never made. Only have made chocolate bark. Yay for a half day for you today. We had a nice luncheon yesterday to celebrate the Marine birthday. Coin given out. Yay.

Well, DH and I are the only two up. I’ll be asking him when he’s ready to go. I did make my tea though. And yeah, Keisha, but whatever. We only take advantage as we can. We never saw crowds at the burger place, though we go early just after they open, and I haven’t been at that breakfast place in many, many years. But it’s still there, so I am hoping not crowded given a Friday this year. Wawa most of the time, free coffee given routinely. And since DH is a no matter how crappy the coffee kinda guy, so Wawa or other is fine with him.

Well, I’m getting hungry, DH is doing wherever. Have to ask him if he’s hungry too.

Most Fabulous Friday to all.

Good day all!

lol...I can`t find the crocs!! I have looked in all my closets, in the spare rooms too, but they seem to have vanished! Tom did suggest they might be in the suitcases, which might be right, so when he gets them down from the attic tomorrow I`ll check then. I was like a rambling idiot going through closet after closet, box after box of stuff saying repeatedly....I know they`re here somewhere.....lol.....

Yep no time to chase freebies, but then I know we`ve discussed this before....I am the person that woud rather have my toenails removed by bears without anaesthesia than wander round a sale of any kind!!! Just let me pay!!!!

Hope the appointment goes well, he does need some answers!!

I don`t make my lasagne sheets myself, always bought fresh from the deli in our village, they make them fresh...is that the same lol.....life`s too short to stuff a mushroom as one famous chef once said! But I make everything else from scratch, no jars here.

Enjoy whatever food you end up with, takeout works anytime!!

Got my glasses and dollars in town today....did get a load of single dollars and fives for the Drag Show.....that`s being prepared😉

Both of us ended up two ready made Italian sandwiches from the deli, they are nice, completely overpriced but again, we like supporting local businesses as opposed to the giant chains in the nearest towns. We don`t have a chain coffee shop or cafe in our village, all independent which suits us. Sandwiches were lovely.

Beautiful sunny day but gosh, it`s chilly out there.

Been clearing spaces and for the trees going up tomorrow, I think this will be the earliest ever we`ve put things up, but it`ll be nice to come home to everything already done and we can just enjoy it then.

Music on..... catch up on a few emails I think!!

Tea first though....☺️

your meme’s always give me the biggest laugh!
I look forward to them each time u post!

Anybody ever make the alfredo from Alfredos? Make it about 3 or 4 times a year as it's too rich for regular use. So yummm.
MIL was first gen Italian and made us dinner couple times a week when she lived with us. Home manicotti, pasta fagioli and lasagna. Eggplant and veal parm too. House always smelled like a pizza joint.
