Someone Stole My Kitchen Sink

I'm posting this because I still can't get over the nerve of some people. We've been remodeling our kitchen and over the course of the project, our old kitchen sink was on our front porch. We were going to eventually throw it out, but our Insinkerator was still attached to it, and we planned to recycle it instead of buying a new one.

On Thursday night, last week, my DH asked if the sink was still on the porch. I told him that I thought it was. Went to check, and sure enough, it was gone. It was on our porch. It wasn't at the curb waiting for the garbagemen to take it. It wasn't sitting by other trash, it was simply in front of the bench on the porch.

If someone had come to the door and asked for it, I would have told them it wasn't a problem, but I wanted to remove the garbage disposal.

Well, the new one cost a little over $150. I know that is a small number when compared to the total price of the project. I just can't get over how someone violated the privacy of our property by coming onto the porch to steal from us. Yes, I know that if the Insinkerator meant that much to us, we should have removed it and stored it somewhere that it couldn't be seen. I guess we just had more faith in people and can't understand why someone would want our old sink. I guess this was G-d's way of telling us to not be cheap about buying a new disposal when everything else in the kitchen is new.

I hope their "new" sink leaks.:smooth:

That is so rude!...I would put up a sign in your front yard saying wanted...our kitchen sink back!...seriously maybe they would realize that it wasn't for the taking....

I would put your stuff in your garage who knows what else they have their eye on!....

(sorry just my suspicious nature!)

Hope you post pics of your remodel!

That is horrible. I can understand if it were out by the curb, but on your porch?

That reminds me of an incident when I was in high school. We had remodeled our old house is Wyoming. My mom thought it would be cute to take the old toilet and put it in the yard, and put flowers in it. She wanted to call it her flower potty. I was in jr. high, and didn't really care. However, my older sister (Junior in high school) was absolutely apalled. She begged my mom not to embarrass her like this. It was a very small town, about 450 people, so everyone you saw knew who you were. Tina, my sister, was just sure she'd die of total embarrasment. My mom still insisted and went ahead and plopped that toilet right in the yard. We lived on a corner on the only paved road in town. Everyone who drove by, which was everyone in town, saw it. Mysteriously, about a week after she put it out there, it disappeared. My sister had talked her boyfriend and others to come by in their pickup and haul that unsightly flower potty away. She never admitted to it, but we all knew who took it. Mom was so mad, I'm not sure she's over yet and that was about 30 years ago.

I just wanted to comment that I thought it was ironic that someone with the name "Holy Cow" was the first to respond to this since that's what we said when we realized that it was gone.:)

I like your suggestion about the sign. I don't know that my DH would go for that, though. He's a party pooper and has written the disposal off already.

We don't have a garage. This, and the fact that we don't have an inground pool are the two reasons why I don't intend to live in this house forever. I love everything else about the house, though. The only other thing on the porch is our bench since it's too heavy to put away for the winter.

I'll be happy to post pictures once my countertop and backsplash are installed. We should be all finished by the end of March. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Some people will steal anything. Remember when I posted about someone stealing my tennis shoes while I was rollerblading? (They weren't even new or a big name brand.) Makes you wonder?!

We had a bicycle stolen from our 2nd floor balcony years ago. The balcony faced the parking lot in the back of the complex. The night it was stolen, I remembered hearing a thud, but didn't think anything about it. Until that morning, I noticed the bike was missing.

It's incredible to me that someone would have the audacity to go onto your porch and steal a sink. I hope they needed it badly.
