tigger2on: did Disney volunteer to replace the pins that were taken?...seems that's the least they could have done since i would imagine the chair , being in their"custody" was also their responsiblity...and "Valuable" to one person doesn't = "valuable " to another..maybe that $5 you found and kept was what some little 4 yr old saved to spend at wdw, so if it ain't yours, turn it in! sweetness has gotten enough comments to probably never want to post again so none from me:eek: ! (for some reason the type is really dark so if it looks weird, sorry)

Why should Disney replace the pins? It would be nice if they did, but they shouldn't feel obligated to do so. Only the thief should be obligated to return the pins.

This happened at MCO AIRPORT. I don't follow you, how was the chair in Disney's custody? See my 10th grade English teacher was correct, reading comprehension is important!:D
Please find the post in question below.

Hi
I know the feeling. Our incident happened in the MCO airport.... my daughter is severely disabled and in a wheelchair. The security guard asked me to remove her from her chair and go in a seperate room for a quick body check. This was after 9/11.
We were gone from her chair no more than 5 minutes and when we came back to her chair... we discovered that it had been pushed to the side and her lanyard with 20+ pins that was hanging from the headrest was gone. I was angry at the preon who stole it off of a wheelchair and I was also upset at the security guard who made me leave the chair outside the room and didn't even watch it while I was gone!!!Posted by tigger2on

When I was younger I had gone to Disney with my brother and I lost my dad's camera. I felt so terrible, I thought I let my dad down and all the great pictures I took with my brother were lost. I called my dad crying but he wasn't even upset about the camera. He just told me to buy a disposable and have fun. I called the lost and found for weeks after i got back but it was never turned in.

Every time I'm at Disney I usually find at least one or two lost items and I immediately turn in them in. I don't want anyone to feel as bad as I did.
Plus, what goes around comes around.

Wow sweetness isn't so sweet.
I hope the old saying is right what goes around comes around

I am glad that most people would have turned in the hat. i didn't know i was going to get this kind of reaction.

But, disney is suppose to be the happiest place on earth and to me most of the time it is but just like life there is always a few rotten apples

I couldn't even finish this thread before I posted. I read the post from the Sweetness and I can't help but feel sorry for someone like that.

In 2000, I lost my PDA at WDW. Yes, it was my fault that I brought it with me , what a silly idea. I wasn't trying to lose it, but I didn't deserve for it not be turned in. Of course I had to lose it on our last day there and of course I didn't lock the screen . When it didn't show up, I shook it off and figured that someone got a nice christmas present at my expense. But it makes me think that I would never want to put someone through that feeling of loss. I can't even believe that someone would return something like a purse of fanny pack without it's contents! I would feel so violated!

When you return something to someone it passes along that feeling of kindness and makes them want to be kind to someone else. That is never a bad thing.

My screen name The Sweetness, is the name of one of my favorite songs, period. Its on a CD by a band named Jimmy Eat World that came out 2/3 years ago.

As for teaching my daughter not to be judgemental or rude, She has lost things, and found things. She certainly doesnt blame the *cruel world* for picking up something she left behind.

As far as calling picking up something someone abandoned by accident or not goes stealing, I dont agree, and I doubt that I am alone in my opinion. I have lost things myself, and will always check with lost and found or security to see if the item I lost was returned, but dont expect to get lucky. In fact, some of the other posters here seem to be drawing lines in the sand as far as what they would return or not.

There is one other exception that I thought of, as well as seeing someone drop or look like they're leaving something and warning them goes~ If any of us (me, DD, or DH) found something with a persons phone # on it, we would contact them. If I *know* who the found item bellongs to, I wouldnt feel right to keep it. The same goes for finding something, and then seeing someone clearly looking for the item I found. I would certainly give it back, at that point, I know whose it is. Other wise, its their loss

As far as kids are concerned, If I am still responsible for the kids, I am still responsible for their stuf. I know how difficult it can be to make sure you are keeping track of all of your things, I have been through the process of vacationing or shopping with DD13 MANY times, and occaisionally have lost something

No one but me is to blame, if I lose my purse, jacket or purchases, unless they literally picked my pocket while I still had my pants on so to speak. Im not trying to offend, just expressing my opinion.

 How does someone abandon something by accident. Abandoning something takes some thought. Accidentally leaving something behind just happens.

I personally can not imagine finding something at WDW (or anywhere else) and not taking the 5 minutes to go to Lost and Found and turn it in.

You are saying, if you don't know who it belongs to, you would not take the 5 minutes to go to L&F and turn it in?

Most people, when they lose something, go straight back where they left it, or to L&F. You are basically saying if you don't see who it belongs to, you'll just take it and keep it and too bad for them?

I'm sorry but I think that is very sad.

Thats exactly what I am saying, and I dont expect anything different when I am careless with my own hat, shopping bags etc... I do, however, think that the person who was in the bathroom, and lied to the girl who was asking about her pack, is a rotten person. No matter what I find, if someone specifically asks me about it, I would just give it back. Keeping it then, would be stealing IMO

Okay,
you say you would return something with a phone number on it.
Let's say I loose my wallet at Disney or while shopping or I leave my cel phone somewhere.
Would you make a reasonable effort to return the items to me since my license and insurance card and stuff are in the wallet? Would you consider mailing it back to me or would my wallet be lost forever?
If I lost my cel phone, might you attempt to look at the phone numbers to perhaps contact someone in my phone book to return it to me or would that too be lost forever?

If I find something, and it is not mine, I turn it in. No ifs, ands, or buts---period.

It's just the right thing to do. If you don't turn it in, it is WRONG!
No ifs, ands, or buts---period.

Qualifying when or what you would steal does not make it any less wrong.

If it is not yours, and you take it, it is stealing. No ifs, ands, or buts---period.

OK I said my piece on returning things to lost and found. You should do it and that's that!!

EsmereldaX- I just noticed your timer. We JUST saw the Lion King in Boston! We were in the 6th row. It was awesome!!!! If it ended after the first scene, where Simba was presented, I would have thought it was worth every penny. That first scene with the Circle of Life song is striking! Have fun!!!!

:confused3

I'm afraid you are... at least on this board.

Susan

Actually I disagree

Find a souviener and keeping it might not be nice but it is not the same as taking it from someone when they are not looking

D WHitles, thats exactly what I mean. The wallet would likely have ID in it, and Id return it with all of its contents. As for the cell, in my fam, we all have a listing for *home* Id certainly try to use it.(to call their home, I mean)

Thanks JMCDAD, I knew I couldnt be the one single person who thought so, even in such a good-intentioned, family involved board:wave2:

I think it may feel different (less guilt), but in my book it's just the same. If you don't give the owner the oppertunity to reclaim it, it's stealing.

Yes, picking up something "abandoned" and keeping it is different from picking someone's pocket. That doesn't make it right, though.

Sweetness,
so you would only keep stuff that you knew couldn't go home again like a bag of souviners or a camera or camcorder is that right?
