Someone predict the weather for ....

AUGUST!

Yes, I know weather is never predictable but I am looking at getting some input from people who have been to Disney in August.

It's labelled the 2nd wettest month for Disney with afternoon thunderstorms not uncommon.

I've been to the Caribbean where people have mentioned something similar. In my experience it would be sunny, rain for 20 minutes, then sunny again.

When people speak of these afternoon storms or showers in August should I expect something like a 20 minutes storm session, or are these afternoon showers typically a full afternoon long storm?

I have getting conflicting information when I do a search, so I figured I would ask other people who have been there in August and what they experienced.

Hot and rainy. Yes, usually the showers blow over after 20 min or so but not always...just really depends on the day.

We went twice in late August when DDs were still in school.

Hot, very humid, and there were brief thunderstorms practically every late afternoon. I never experienced an all-day rain, but it's possible.

We would go to a park in the morning until about 3pm, then return to our hotel for a break, then often return around sunset.

Hot days with afternoon showers. Say 75 in the early morning and reaching the 90's with humidity factored in during the day. Spotty afternoon showers around 3-4pm that last for about 30 min.

That's not so bad.

I was planning on hitting the parks for rope drop.

Leave around 12-2 to go back to the resort for some pool/nap time

Head back around 5 or so for some more park stuff.

Seems doable.

There is the weather and then there is the environment. We did RD at MK in August. And with all of the concrete around it was about 90 degrees at the train station!

I rains EVERY day in August in Florida. It does not rain every day on a WDW theme park. Spotty, large storm clouds all around Orlando area. And though most say 20-30 minutes duration. It is about an hour before things feel back to normal and outside rides start back up after lightning is off the radar etc.

Weather will be hot and humid. You can almost set your clock by the afternoon rain, but it usually passes quickly. The only time the rain has really lasted is if it starts in the morning. But don't let the rain stop you, enjoy the lower crowds, you're gonna be wet anyway with sweat, so let the rain cool you off and keep going. The worst thing IMO is after the rain and the sun comes out, that is when the humidity really hits you.

We only go in August, it is hot but we don't find it to be too bad. There is air conditioning every where really. It does rain everyday, but in all 4 trips we've taken we've never had a complete wash out. In fact, last summer was the first time we couldn't utilize a ride or a boat because of lightening in the immediate area. Its never slowed us down. Usually sticks around about 20 minutes or so. Late August is the time to go, crowds aren't bad at all. We go early in the morning, then back to the hotel for some pool time and then back to the park when the sun goes down.

We spent a week in Orlando in August 2013 and another in August 2014.

In 2013 it was hot (of course), but the kind of hot we expected. We were able to manage it by being prepared (Frogg Toggs, spray bottles, etc.) and by taking breaks. The heat didn't really affect the trip. The rain did - the daily storms were a hassle and caused cancellations and delays. At non-Disney parks (Sea World, LEGOLAND, Busch Gardens), most of the rides shut down for two or three hours every afternoon.

In 2014, the heat was brutal. The heat index was over 100 degrees every day. Two of my kids got sick - vomiting, unable to leave the hotel room. We had to cut days short because we literally couldn't spend another hour outside. That year we were desperately hoping for rain and the afternoon storms didn't come.

Late August is the best low-crowd time for our family to vacation, because of school, sports, and work schedules. But after 2014, I will never go back in August.

We go in August every year. We have learned over the years how much we can handle. When you leave your room in the morning, it feels like you are being hit in the face with a huge wall of humid hotness!! We don't mind it though. We have been there before when it was too cool to swim, and we didn't like it at all. Definitely expect to take a break in the afternoon. You will need it. Being able to go in and out of stores and rides that are air conditioned help as well. We always eat a sit-down meal at lunch to get cooled off. Sometimes the rain will last a bit longer, but it shouldn't slow you down. There is plenty to do even if the rain sticks around.

It will be hot and humid. Kind of like breathing soup. It will rain almost every day and the days it doesn't rain, you will wish it had. The thunderstorms will be intense and you won't want to to get caught in them. Most will last 30 minutes, some may last longer. Bring deodorant and a poncho.
