Someone please tell me about Biergarten...

We love it too. As for meeting people at the group seating...

I took DH for his first meal there last February, after telling him that we would be seated "European style" with other families. We enjoy getting to know people from other places.

A lovely family sat with us, and we started chatting. They were telling us that this was their big "east coast" vacation, and they were hitting some of the high spots. They were telling us about a wonderful place where they had just been the previous weekend, and would like to go back because the beach was lovely, even though it was very cold, and the shopping was awesome. My DH asked where they had been, and of course they mentioned our home town. We had quite a laugh over that!

I just added this restaurant based on the good comments. It sounds like a lot of fun. But can anyone tell me do they serve pretzel bread? My kids love this and at least there will be one thing the picky little people will eat.

They had pretzel bread last year. I ate a lot of it. I haven't heard of it being removed so I think it should still be there.

I know you were talking about this a few days ago but I just wanted to mention that Disney seats you with other people becaus thats how they do it in germany too!

My FIL is german, so DH loves the food at Biergarten...it's on our must-do list for every trip, preferably the first night...

For those nervous about the food...

- schnitzel is just a breaded cutlet, usually chicken or pork
- spaetzle is a kind of pasta - good with the gravy
- pretzel bread is awesome!
- potato dumplings, roast chicken, pork roast, sausages, etc. are pretty "normal" in terms of what's there
- there's also a pretty good selection of salads and pickled vegetables (ie. beets)
- avoid sauerbraten unless you like pickled meat
- the potato salad is served warm, and has a slightly different flavour than traditional "American summer backyard BBQ" fare
- many of the meats are meant to be accompanied by the nearby gravy or sauce, or mustards, etc. - put some on the side or in a small bowl if you're not sure whether you'll like it or not
- grownups can eat off the "kids' buffet" too or, the desserts are all fabulous, so just eat strudel (apple pie) and black forest cake (chocolate cake with cherry filling)

As for the seating arrangements, it's luck of the draw...try to have fun and meet some new people, or at least try to relax and not let sitting with strangers put a damper on your meal...

This is a good review of the food. I just wanted to highlight that the seating is luck of the draw. We only "drew" a lackluster group one time. But, we didn't let that influence our enjoyment of the venue or the food.

We are going Jan1 -12. What are th chances of getting a walk up seating for 3 for lunch? We are doing the DxDDP and I have all my ADR's booked. But I saved 3 credits to try to walk up to Le Cellier for lunch (I haven't been able to snag an ADR) but if that is a bust I thought maybe we could try Germany.

Make an ADR for Biergarten and cancel it if Le Cel comes through. You could probably walk up, but why gamble.

We can't wait to try Biergarten. That was the only restaurant DH put on the 'must' list - hmmm, could it be because it has Beer in the name? One can only wonder (wink wink)

We live in a small German town in IN so we thought we would love it but were totally disappointed. We didn't think the variety was good. Our youngest two DDs, whom I knew would not like much, didn't like anything here. As a family of 5, we were seated with a young couple who did not say a single word to us, the entire meal. We tried to talk to them a few times but gave up after a while. It made for a very awkward meal.

We love Biergarten! I'm very picky, but I go for the salads, deserts and atmosphere. The 2 times we've been seated with others, once, we ended up knowing some of the same people they knew (one lady's mom was my SIL's art teacher in college), and the second, we were with a couple who was quiet, but there were chairs in between us, so we didn't bother them, they didn't bother us. Not a big deal! We'll be back there in about 70 days to do it again!!!

The Biergarten is a nice place at Epcot... well-designed with good food. Their apple streudel is especially good. The only annoying thing I can pull from it is the fact that when we went, they paired us with another family. Not that we're antisocial or anything, we just wanted to enjoy a German dinner as a group without another group with us at the same table.

So yeah, overall it's good.
