When my mom and I were in the World about two weeks ago, she was talking about how she remembered some big building built for the year 2000 (or maybe some other event) that had a bunch of countries in it that aren't normally represented in the World Showcase and they all had merchandise and maybe food. As sort of a celebration for the millenium or something.

Well, I really didn't remember it and insisted she was just crazy. She said it was some huge building that they built for the millenium. I said that Disney doesn't just build big buildings and tear them down. She insisted it was somewhere over near Canada or the UK.

Sure enough we were walking from Canada to the UK (or maybe it was right before Canada) and saw a big brown gate. I looked past the gate and there was a building with a bunch of different colors painted on it and there was writing (I can't remember exactly what it said- something about a celebration or something). It looked a few years old and trees had grown in to cover the edges of the building.

Does anyone remember this? Does anyone have any pictures to jog my memory?? I really couldn't believe it, but she has to be right. :confused3

That building is still used today. In fact during the Food & Wine festival this is the location for the Party for the Senses that will happen each Saturday during the festival. Your Mom is correct, it did have several countries for the Millenium Celebration.

Your Mom is remembering correctly -- in my recall it seemed more like a tent, or portable building -- but there was something there like that in 2000.

The building is still there and it was used for the millenium. There were a lot of different countries there - I remember there was Arabic coffee samples and these round circles to represent different seasons that you could walk through. Today it's also used for the Disney Doll and Teddy Bear Convention. I have info and pics of that in my website (link below).

The DIS'ers are good! Is there any question they CAN'T answer? That should be a thread.

Thanks so much for this link! And thanks to those who replied.

I still have a VERY fuzzy memory of it (partly triggered from a pic on the allearsnet page).

Interesting. I guess I have to concede that my mom is not, in fact, crazy.

I knew I could count on my DISer's to give me the right info! :goodvibes

Our Christmas party was held there, it was very cool! So nice to walk outside and see Illuminations and then back to the party.
