Someone help me figure out what to do! Please?

It would take a miracle for cruising to start by August even with masks. I would target spring 2020, better weather and chance of less restrictions.

Kids were discussed in today's covid-19 briefing. Dr. Fauci said trials with kids continue, they are hoping to start vaccinating children late spring/summer this year.
(I'm sure depending if all goes well.)
While those of use 65 and over can't get one until at least June at last report here.

What I read said "The next step, Fauci said, involves testing in children down to 12. If successful it will be followed by another round of testing, down to nine years old. "
Still lots of Disney kids younger than that, so it will be a long time still.

If you don't want to wear a mask at all while on a cruise, just put aside cruising for the next 2 to 3 years.

You will absolutely will have to cruise with a mask in some way in 2022 - and for all practical purposes for a portion of 2023 as well.

The real question for 2021 is not whether we will cruise with a mask - but, rather, whether we can cruise at all.

I know its disappointing to cancel but I can't imagine Disney will have enough vaccinated crew members to sail by August.

Sorry, but it looks like masks for August and maybe the rest of this year. IMO your cruise won't sail anyway. I would definitely cancel August.

Hi, friends!

We currently are booked for the August 9 cruise (4 night, Bahamian). I also have a reservation for January 3 (same cruise, different date), 2022.

I honestly don't know what to do at this point! I don't want to end up going in August if we'll have to wear masks. Mind you, we are all about masks, distancing, sanitizing, etc when we are at home, but don't want to have to deal with them on a vacation! The lack of info from Disney about future cruising restrictions/protocols is frustrating and not helping me make a decision. If we wait till January 2022, my kids will have to miss a week of school (which is ok) but there's a better chance (I think/hope) of things being more "normal" on the cruise.

If we cancel August, we will go to a resort in the Catskills for a week at the end of June instead, and keep the January.

Help! What would you do in this situation?

I have already cancelled two cruises.

While I’m not bothered by the idea of wearing a mask on board at all, I know some people are and... One is supposed to enjoy their vacation. If that’s not the case, why would you impose that to yourself?

When in doubt, postpone.

I was feeling the same way for the most part. I mask everywhere I go, sanitize religiously and social distance when I can. I didn't want to cruise if masks were required because it will feel less like a vacation. Masks are not going away anytime soon...that's the reality of it.

So now I'm at the point where I just want to cruise because I miss it, so I'll wear the mask. I'm looking at September cruises and there's a strong possibility those will all be canceled as well.

So much uncertainty with all of this and I worry that my 7-night cruise will not get me into Tortola and St. Thomas because the ports will be closed. Masks will be around for the foreseeable future which is why DCL put out that commercial. I say postpone your August cruise and go for January! Let's hope by then we'll have some degree of normalcy.

I personally believe that masks, while not here to stay, will be the last thing to completely disappear. As the vaccine rolls out, we should expect cases to drop, and that should allow restrictions to start being loosened. Thing that have been shut down, such as concerts and cruises, will resume with reduced capacity initially. If things go well, capacities will start being increased. And eventually, once we're at close to 100% capacity and life is starting to return to normal, mask requirements will start to be loosened. I do believe we'll be wearing masks well into 2022 - ESPECIALLY on cruises.

And there is hope as the US government has acquired enough vaccine to immunize 300 million people by the end of the summer. The goal is that anybody who wants to be vaccinated will be able to get one this spring. (That's probably June, not April, FWIW.) To me, that opens up real hope that cruises can resume this summer.

I believe masks are going to be around longer than first thought. This is only an opinion and a guess. I have no educated facts to base that thought on. For the same reason, I believe, the WDW organization has few answers. They just don't know. Covid is fluid and every changing.

We have the British Isles booked for September, haven't cancelled yet, but I can't imagine it being a relaxing vacation.

You can count on masks being required (unquestionably) in August '21 and (probably) in January '22. That is assuming that DCL is even sailing at all by August, which is itself a dicey proposition. DCL is more likely to be cruising in January '22, but you should not count on that cruise even approaching "normal".

Given your preferences, I recommend that you cancel these cruises, and wait until the pandemic is completely over (2023 or so) before sailing again. That way, you won't feel strung around or misled by DCL, your money will be fully in your control, and you will know exactly what to expect from your cruise when you do sail. It will be more like the traditional DCL cruise at that point.

Disney, as demonstrated by their draconian restrictions at WDW, will be among the last to reduce or eliminate things like social distancing and masks. While I think the world has gone crazy with what I consider an absurd overreaction, I agree with others who said you should probably cancel the August 2021 cruise and keep an eye on things for January 2022. Like you, I will *not* pay Disney prices for a watered-down, overly-restricted vacation. Let's just hope the collective world gets their heads screwed on straight sooner rather than later and we treat COVID-19 as the reasonable threat it is, not the all-encompassing bogeyman we've made it out to be.
