cuz I just got an email ad titled "for your mom" with a link to the following movie choices "for your mom-just in time for mother's day".

I can choose from-

50 shades of grey:scared:
50 shades darker:scared::scared:

or

the loft:scared::scared::scared:

My daughter went on Amazon yesterday and couldn’t believe all the items advertised for Mother’s Day..blenders, vacuums, microwaves.

Major eye roll..
Sounds a great gift for me! Just a tad out of my price range. :teeth:
Yeah I don't get the 50 Shades thing. To each their own, but the writing is horrible! From the trailers, the acting might be even worse! :rolleyes1

No eye roll here. I love a fancy blender and dyson vacuums. Would gladly take either for a Mother’s Day gift :)

Don’t need a microwave. Just got a new kitchen aid microwave/wall oven combo in the fall.

I’m with you. The first gift my husband (boyfriend at the time) ever bought me was a vacuum and I loved it.

I’m just rolling my eyes at how stereotypical it is. Why not promote fishing rods and baseball gloves too?

I’d be one happy camper if someone bought me the Roomba I’ve had in my wishlist forever.

There are so many don’t buy this or you should buy this rules/guides it’s no wonder guys are sometimes like deers in headlights. We don’t typically exchange but my younger kids have been after my DH the last couple of holidays. For Christmas my younger DD felt I needed to “relax” so they got me a spa certificate. Man, I have never been a pamper me kind of girl and the whole “experience” is so awkward and uncomfortable for me but I’ve got to figure out a way to use the damn thing up. DH said they were after him for Mother’s Day so I said I’ve been wanting a workout bench/deck. He said, “But that’s not something you buy for Mother’s Day is it?” Me, “It’s what this mom wants.” It’s not that he doesn’t know me it’s that these stupid ads get in his head.

Kids don’t buy Mom 50 Shades it won’t go over well, lol.

If you saw my later post you’d see that I’m like you. I’d rather have a new microwave than a day at the spa or a bottle of wine.

I was rolling my eyes at the old fashionedness (my new invented word) of it. I’d be happy with a new tool box or lawn chair, ‘typically’ dad gifts.

Oh it was just more of a spin off of your thought. That and I really want a Roomba but no one is taking the hint so now I have to get my nails done a dozen times. :rotfl2:

I don't want the books or films, but I'd be receptive to some accessories if DDs would care to buy them for me. ;)

O/T but this is how I feel about many of the song choices for father/daughter dances. Like “did you listen to the lyrics?”

do people really think a human puts together those Amazon suggestion lists? Amazon is a machine learning website. This means that it looks at data imputed and this data is then put through different programs and the results put out. Thats why when you buy something you get a suggestions list, people who bought this also bought that.

With the suggested emails, the computer programs would have looked at peoples buying habits in a set period before a holiday, eg Mothers Day. They must have seen a surge of people buying or looking at or putting on wishlists certain items. Yes these items are stereotypical, but Amazon is not doing these choosing of these items, its Amazon customers who are choosing the stereotypical Mothers Day items.

My family bought me my second roomba for Christmas. Well, I bought it, and since my first roomba bit the dust (also a Christmas gift from years ago), I opened my Christmas gift a couple of weeks early. I’m getting new bath towels for mother’s day, I just ordered them using my 30% off, will pick them up today.

My family knows better than to get me any household appliances. If the house needs those, we'll just buy them for the house. It wouldn't be a "gift" to me.

Same with tools for Father's Day. If the household needs them, we just buy them.

I think last week's Target ad had Fifty Shades Darker advertised in their Mother's Day themed flyer. I thought that was kind of funny. Not that a mother wouldn't like/want the gift but just that one of your kids should pick it up for you!

Things for the house make sense sometimes if it something she would actually enjoy. Like my insta pot was a christmas present. I'm ok with a present that upgraded my old crock pot to something that allows me to make some of my dishes so much faster and with less other work for example (the pressure cooker makes the soup I love making that took 6 hours take 2 and doesn't require me to saute the onions in a pan first I can do that in the insta pot too). I make tacos in this thing once a week at least and love it.

However if he bought me a vacuum and thought that was a present I would be upset.

The other one that you have to be careful with is anything that is excercise gear. If a woman wants the next fitbit or jogging watch great, but if she didn't ask for it and you don't know she wants one it can be taken as "you need to lose weight"
