I have stayed at nearly every WDW resort, and I have had good and bad transportation days at all of them. But the worst transportation issues have never been that bad, really.
When someone asks how to decide on a resort, I always suggest setting your budget first (which usually eliminates a few choices) and then thinking about the amenities you need in a resort (not just Disney) for you to have a good vacation. Do you need a hot tub? Balcony? Room service? Recreational facilities? Does the size of the bed or number of beds matter? Once you have narrowed down what you need to have a good trip, you can eliminate a lot of the resorts from your list. Then it all boils down to theme and location.
It sounds like you have been through that process and have decided that a Royal Room at POR is the right choice for you. At this point, I wouldn't second guess your choice. Sure, you may hear some negative reports from people visiting POR, and you may hear some stellar reports from people staying at other resorts. But the opinions (of both types) expressed here at the DIS are just a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands of guests who stay at Disney resorts every year. So for every one negative post about POR bus service, there are hundreds if not thousands of people who thought the buses were fine. When it comes to Disney resorts, there isn't a right choice or a wrong choice - just the best choice for you and your family. That's all that counts.
Have a great trip!
