I have just read on the cruise boards that DCL have reduced the prices for the 11 night southern carribean christmas cruise.

I couldn't resist pricing it up - we were booked on that cruise th first day the prices were announced (back in Oct 2008) and then my common sense head kicked in (actually it might have been the one and only time it has ever shown itself where holidays & disney are involved:goodvibes) and I ended up swapping to the cheaper, shorter 7 night wonder cruise.

Well...... I reckon the 11 nighter is now only $900 more expensive for all four of us in the exact same room we have on the 7 night cruise!!!:rolleyes1 They even still have available the original stateroom I booked!!!! - is this fate???!!!:lmao:

I know deep down that the 7 night is probably better for the boys, and that they won't be interested in the ports. Plus it would reduce our WDW stay and days at the parks, which again is where the boys will want to be. But... it just seems like such a great deal!!!:goodvibes

Wayne, anyone, tell me it is a rubbish deal and then I can forget all about it!!!:lmao::thumbsup2

what are the ports on the two different cruises?

before i can tell you that it's rubbish and i have to know what i'm comparing! :goodvibes

we are currently going to - Key West (looking forward to that as it will be our first time), Grand Cayman (been before so lhaving a beachy day) and Cozumel (again, been before and staying onboard ship)

11 night - St Thomas & St Maarten ( have yet to do the eastern cruise so want to do these ports), Barbados (been before), plus Martinique & Guadaloupe (neither of which I know an awful lot about).

If St Lucia or Antigua had been an option, I would still be booked on that cruise, as they are the two carribean islands I still have on my 'to do' list.

So what do you think now?? rubbish isn't it??!!:lmao:

well.....it actually sounds pretty good for only $900 more...
i dunno....are there any differences between the magic and the wonder?
is one of them going into drydock before your cruise?

i think i would stick with the 7 nights on the wonder....
but that's me...
no wait....i take that back....
on the wonder you only have one new port (albeit a really nice one)..
on the magic you'll have 4 new ports....so that's pretty cool..

ok...so i changed my mind - it's not rubbish....go for it..

oh Wayne.....what do you think? you have a lot of cruising experience..

thank you - although you are not being much help - you were required to talk me out of it, not into it!!:lmao:

only joking, thank you :lovestruc- i had a feeling it was going to be too good to turn down, but I really must fight it for the sake of the children!!:goodvibes

how old are the kids?

how old are the kids?

they will still only be 3 and 6 - so not sure we are going to get much out of the ports other than beach type days. If I am honest with myself then I think they would prefer to be at WDW. Kai, my eldest, is a red head, and he really suffered with the heat when we went in May and I think he might actually be better off in WDW with possibly cooler weather than further down in the carribbean.

Deep down I think I made the right choice originally in changing to the 7 night from the longer 11 nighter - but the longer one does seem to be so much better value.

The other complication if we changed, would be we would have to try and change our DVC accomodation, which may present a problem as we would then need a reservation from 29th dec - 1st Jan, a very busy time for dvc. It would also mean we would have to visit the parks during that busy christmas week, whereas with the 7 night cruise we can do all the parks before we sail on 23rd Dec, when it is still quieter.

I know it makes sense to stay as we are - I just wish I hadn't seen the price of the other cruise:goodvibes

sorry amy, but i remember when your son was born,
feeling old now
tracy:goodvibes

scary, isnt it?

the first time we travelled to wdw grace was 18months ols, she is now 7 going on 70 with her atitiude!!!
life was so much easy when the kids went with the flow, now i actually have to ask them if they want to travel to wdw :rotfl2:, the worst thing is they dictate which park/restaurant/activites now!!
tracy xx

funny you should say that -Kai is 6 going on 16!!! (I am hoping his teenage years are going to be behind him before he gets to high school - otherwise I am in trouble!!:lmao:)

I have asked him what he would pefer to do - longer on the ship or at the theme parks - and surprise surprise - he wants more ride time!!:santa:

IMHO you have your answer right there.....the kids are only young once & you will have plenty of time to do longer cruises when they are a bit older & want to go in the kids clubs. :thumbsup2

It is tough decision though as they have some great offers at the mo....it's just too tempting. :)

thank you - I think that was what I needed to hear:thumbsup2. I spend so much time 'living' disney on here, I was starting to think it was all about me (which pre-kids it probably was, as Steve is so laid back he does what I want!!:rotfl:) - but actually this holiday especially, as it will be a 'one time only' Christmas trip, is all about quality family time - not just about where I want to take everyone next!!:goodvibes

Thank you for reminding me!:lovestruc

Think of your children!!!

You can't possibly change again and we probably won't be able to see you over there if you do!

Think of your Goddaughter... She will miss you ;)

we were seeing you before then anyway!!! - We would just be sailing straight after BLT rather than after AKV. So we would still have a week cross over. :)
Although I think I have totally talked myself out of it, unless of course they reduce the price even more!!:thumbsup2

Your welcome, i'm glad I was able to help. :)

i think you just answered your own question - keep the 7 nighter....
changing now would require too many changes...
and 11 days is a very long time for wee ones like that...

I agree :) keep to the 7 night one, there'll be plenty of time for longer cruises in the future. :)
