I was having lunch Saturday over at Big River Grille at the Boardwalk, and they brought the Breathless out for a spin. Got some GREAT video...

For those not familiar with the Breathless, it is a replica of a 1933 Cris Craft Mahagony speedboat. You can rent it for a ride on Crescent Lake, or for an Illuminations fireworks cruise. It's a great boat, and a VERY fun ride!!

Let me know what you think of the video.

Excellent piece of video, Pete. But I was surprised at how fast he was going considering all the smaller craft in the vicinity.

No, it wasn't raining, but it was cloudy. I was also a little shocked of how fast he was going. In that one shot, it looked like he was going to go right into that water mouse

Such a beautiful boat. I can't believe I've never seen it! The video was great!

Thanks Pete, for that great video! We have reservations on the Breathless for a week from Thursday to see Illuminations. Now I really cant wait.

Thanks again.

Hi Pete - it was nice meeting you in the Big River Grill on Saturday (I was the Brit. with Kath :) ).

I also saw the Breathless on Sunday also, heading back towards the Boardwalk from the International Gateway.

Pete, awesome video. We tried to book the Breathless for our trip in December but were told that she is being refurbished during our stay. We opted for a pontoon boat instead.

Havent been on the breathless before but i have been on those boats and they are a very nice ride.

My dad built a very similar speedboat in the early '60's; solid mahogany. However, he wanted it to have serious towing power, so he converted and installed a V-8 engine in it.

One of the fun things to do when you watch a wooden speedboat is to make note of how far out of the water the gunwales are. A wooden hull is much heavier than fiberglass, so they tend to ride near the waterline at anchor. You'll note that in this video, when the driver is alone and going slowly, the waterline is right about at the painted line on the hull. When he is going faster, even with the added weight of the passengers, that line is nowhere near the water. Our boat had a top speed of about 38 knots, and at full throttle on open water, you could see underneath most of it; about the only thing still in the water was the prop. It's a heck of a thrill, riding on air like that.

My dear friends, In the Video if you look closley it is not a water mouse the driver is going by, rather it is Disney's Yacht Club Lake Patrol. The Water Mice at the Bayside Marina only go 5 mph. Breathless goes much faster. There are certian rules a Breathless driver must follow and two of them are avoid the Freindship boats and avoid all recreation boats. The Breathless Drivers are trained for a long time and the know the boats safety rules and regulations and would never jepordize the saftey of the guest. One thing I like is the jolly roger flag, (Pirate Flag) That was a nice touch, especially scince Disney released Pirates of the Carabean. I have ridden Breathless many times. I enjoy it. Kenny, Chad, Angelo, Scott, Aaron and Chris are the present drivers. Please be courtious to your driver
