Hi all. We just spent 24 hrs at HRH (before checking in at our timeshare) & I thought I would share.
It is a beautiful resort! The theming is great, music is not overwhelming at all. The rock memorabilia was great to read about, & the subtle touches (like the sax chandelier) were fun.
The rooms are very nice. Unfortunately they were packed so no room upgrade even with HR All Access card.
The pool is great & welcome especially after a day at the parks.
The people who work there are very nice ~ but with exception of the guys who help you with baggage & your car ~ pretty clueless. When we got there it took a long time to check in b/c after the staff helped someone they would walk away from their post leaving several families, like us, to wait instead of checking us in. Finally 1 staff member stayed & she checked us in. She had no idea you couldn't go through the pool area early in the morning to get to WWOHP early, nor did the pool attendent know this! There were other questions we asked about Universal in general & many of the staff had no idea b/c they don't go into Universal! Even the conciarge didn't have answers! Only the valet & bell service guys knew about the best ways to get into Universal quickly. They directed us to walk out the maindoors, turn left, walk down the stairs into the parking lot, make another left & keep going. FYI, we found this way to be shorter then the pool way.
Speaking of the pool, DH & I went up to the bar to get a beer while the kids were swimming. The women working there was busy, her coworkers just chatting about. We ordered 2 drafts, which she let over run the cups so they were sticky & then, for 2 draft beers. charge us 18% tip! I am SO not good with being told how much to leave, but for 2 people to charge us a tip is too much! We asked her to take it off the bill & she did. But please beware, if you have not problem paying 18% tip, know that you are already being billed so you need not tip on top of that.
The guys were also a big help when it came to parking. Since HRH is so close to Universal, we asked what the charge is for a non-guest to park there for the day. They explained we could, the charge is $20, BUT you can get parking validated if you spend at least $20 at The Kitchen! So, if you are going to spend money to park, you may as well spend the money on good food & get closer parking.
We really enjoyed our stay, the closeness to Universal, the convenience of the Express Pass & would recommend this resort to any who ask.
We are still on vacation, so if you leave a question here I may not get back to you quickly, but ask away!
