Back home in Aus now and still a little jet lagged - our journey home from Calgary was around 34 hours so you can see why. Not sure if I can do that again, it's just too long!
I thought I'd jot down a few comments / thoughts about our 3 day stay at DLR. Not in any particular order, just random thoughts about what we did etc..
This was the first week of our three week trip where we went on to Seattle, cruised Alaska then a week up through Canada with Rocky Mountaineer to Calgary.
If it's a little vague / all over the place I apologise but we had a big two weeks after DL so there's lots that's been going on.

This trip was just my husband and I for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was my 8th trip to DLR and my husband's 4th trip. I've been a few times without him with either both our boys or just the youngest on our last visit in 2017.

We flew into LAX on Saturday night. I'd planned to stay in LA one night (Farmer's Daughter Hotel), sleep late, visit the Farmer's Market then head down to Anaheim Sunday afternoon which is what we did. It was fine but in hindsight we probably should have just gone straight to Anaheim from the airport.
We visited the Farmer's Market (I thought I hadn't been before but my husband swears that I have), got Levi's for my son at Macy's and on spur of the moment I decided I needed to go down to Hollywood and Highland and see the Walk of Fame and HW sign (again!).

Caught an Uber down to Anaheim around 2pm on Sunday afternoon and checked into D.I. & S for one night. Stayed here last time. It was perfectly fine again. I'd requested a room at the front like last time but got one at the very back of the property on about level 3. Bit of a pain to drag our luggage all the way to the back of the property for one night but it was fine. I've read that the rooms are quieter down there and I think that would be true. The entry area looked down on a little courtyard garden which was very nice. Didn't have the B/F as we left early. The indoor pool had the very strong chemical smell wafting out as you walked past - smell more strong / obvious I think given that it is an indoor pool.
We had dinner at Tony Roma's because my husband wanted to eat there and it was fine. I watched the fireworks from the D.I. & S viewing deck. It's ok from there but a lot of trees etc.. blocking the view so you can only really see the big ones but a reasonable compromise if you're not in the park.

We were up really early the next morning so had B/F at Denny's at 5am then gathered our luggage and Uber'd over to the Grand Californian Hotel at 6am to store our bags and get checked in to use our EMH that day.
I booked our 3n stay at GCV renting DVC points which cost me half of what it was going to be going through Disney.
My thoughts: it was nice enough of course but TBH, I probably wouldn't do it again. (My son and I did a split stay last time and tried 2n at DLH and I felt the same way) Whilst it's nice to be that close to the parks, particularly DCA with the entrance in to there - we really didn't use any of the facilities at the hotel - pools / lobby / bar etc. so the value probably wasn't there for us. I paid $1,400 ($2,000 AUD) for the 3n and I paid $160 for the one night at D.I. & S.
When my son and I return, likely to be in 2yrs in 2021, we will just stay across the road on Harbor.

We had a 3 day hopper with MP (purchased ~ 1 yr ago before the Jan ticket / MP price increase so MP was $10/day) I purchased direct with Disney.
Last trip my son and I had a 10day hopper pass (pre-MP) and were in the parks 8 days including 2 x MHP's and that nearly wasn't enough time for us!
My son and I are the Disney addicts in the family - my husband was really just doing it this time because I wanted to go there. He likes DL well enough, particularly the history associated with Walt etc.. but he doesn't love it like we do.
After the first day I was thinking I'd made a mistake with the 3days - as in, one day might have actually been enough. Just wasn't feeling it this trip although jet-lag may have impacted this somewhat.

Monday - checked in quickly at GCH and over to line up at DCA by 6.30am for our EMH. This really wasn't necessary. Lines weren't really there (and by lines, I mean 10 - 20 people in queue), till around 6.50am or so.
Shortly after this is when my frustration started. Through the gates at 7am and off to RSR. On the way I am trying to secure our Oga's reservation for 7.30pm that night. It was the only night I had spare to do it and I was trying to tie it in with watching the fireworks from SW:GE after.
I would get all the way through the reservation process and after entering the final credit card details it would come up with an error message.
Over the next hour I tried this at least 20-30 times, entering multiple credit cards (I had 3 different ones with me). I would have to enter all the details again each time, names, credit card details etc..) with no luck, doing it all on my iPhone which is so much harder than using a laptop. I was so frustrated.
I know, I know - I should have gone to guest services earlier but I didn't want to waste the advantage of our EMH : (
I had done a dummy run of this at home which was fine but obviously you can't click through the final payment page otherwise you'll be charged. I had booked stuff with Disney from home like the WOC DP so I knew there shouldn't be a problem with it accepting my credit card.
So after our first hour or so I went to the Chamber of Commerce (Guest Services) and explained the problem I was having. She tried to come up with a few things it might be like there were no bookings left etc.. but it didn't ring true as I had logged in at 6.45am and tried continuously from 7am.
She tried multiple times, also using their iPad to access my Disney account to make the booking. She eventually conceded that, yes, some people had been having issues being able to make the reservation. She didn't say whether they were local or just international guests.
She spent a lot of time going back and forth between front of house and talking to managers out the back. After about 40 minutes she was suddenly able to get the reservation to confirm. It was for 8.35pm but I took it. I'd been trying to get 7.30 - 8pm ish as I expressed that I was concerned about a hold up getting into Oga's based on recent reports and I wanted to watch the fwks but they spoke to a manager over there who said any holdups they'd been having had resolved and they were getting people into Oga's at their reservation time pretty much now.

Due to all the grief I'd been having with it she offered me 2 x 'anytime / any attraction' FP's for us to use. I explained to her that I had MP so I didn't have much use for them but she pointed out that I could use them on non-FP attractions as well so she said I would likely find them useful for something > looking at you Peter Pan's Flight!

So, after that stressful start to our day we continued on after thanking the CM for all her efforts in assisting us ..........

All I can say after that, thank goodness they've quickly moved to being able to book Oga's 14days ahead. It's a real pain to be trying to secure a reservation when you're trying to use your EMH / MM and also book MP etc... It would have saved me so much grief that morning but all's well that ends well I guess : )

We did a few more attractions in DCA then headed over to DL for a while. I hadn't intended to do DL today but we'd already done a fair bit in DCA so I said let's go over there for a while. As reported, crowds were pretty low. We actually had trouble using MP just in the sense that wait times were so low with immediate returns on MP available, I had to stop using it for a while : )
MP is still very much worthwhile to me though for being able to book FP's on the other side of the park or in the opposite park that you're in and a big bonus is being able to stack FP's for the popular attractions for when you plan to return in the evening.

We then ended up going back over to DCA for a while, had lunch at Lamplight (I'd made a reservation for 12.30pm) - I'll review it in next post - before doing Soarin and Grizzly and then heading back to the GCH to check into our room and have a rest around 3pm.
Sidenote: Grizzly was awful!! I haven't been on it in years. Usually the kids go on it repeatedly for an hour or so using SR until I can eventually drag them off it and I sit out front of there enjoying the scenery / atmosphere. I convinced my husband to go on it and we stored our stuff in the free lockers that I'd read about near there but never used as I'm normally waiting out front with our stuff. We changed into our flip flops. For some reason my husband kept his wallet on him rather than storing it in the locker!
Enjoyed the ride, got a bit of a spray here and there, enough to definitely be wet but not unbearably so. Got to the end and just when you think you're safe and have survived - bang!! it hit us out of nowhere. The geyser or whatever it was completely drenched almost everyone in our raft as if we had just gone under a waterfall - literally!! I don't mind getting a bit wet but this was ridiculous. We were completely drenched, unpleasantly so. My husband was not a happy camper! His wallet was completely soaked through (don't ask me why it wasn't in the locker??) . I will definitely remember not to be doing this one in the future and I couldn't convince my husband to go on Splash after this experience so we ended up giving it a miss - I made do with seeing inside the mountain from the Railroad. Luckily, we were right near our entrance to GCH so headed straight back there but just about froze in the freezing lobby whilst waiting to get our room key/number and check our room was now ready at reception. They don't notify international numbers that your room is ready so it wasn't an option for us - they'd told us to come back to reception and check later on.

Our room was on the ground / (? first floor) over near the Mariposa lifts I believe. It was pretty convenient. Once you passed the lifts into the corridor of rooms our door was right there on ground level. Room was nice with everything you need. We had a little courtyard area. I could tell we were just behind Goofy's Sky School or thereabouts, it was over to the right a bit.
We had free use of the laundry which was just down the hall and there was a washing basket in the room. Also bathrobes and nice toiletries.
They don't offer housekeeping for DVC (you can get it by paying a surcharge if you want) but I'm happy not to have someone coming in and worrying about tidying the room up for them.
They did however do the 'security check' each day on the room that I'd read about - I could tell because the bin was emptied each day.
Bed was very comfortable and we had no complaints about the stay.
My husband is a smoker which of course is taboo just about everywhere now. I was helped out with some directions on here (from Nonsuch I believe it was) as to where he could do this which was very helpful. Just down the corridor from us past the laundry there is an exit to a BBQ area that no-one really uses, we never saw any guests in that area at all. There is a smokers ashtray there so it was easy enough for him to duck out as needed. It is out of the way and we never really saw anyone in that area so no-one else is being inconvenienced by the smoke, so he was happy. I'd pre-warned him it was going to be a bit of a problem for him with the new smoking bans at the resort but he managed without too much hassle.
All in all, our stay there was great with no issues but as I said, given we didn't use the facilities of the hotel to their fullest I don't think the value was there for us. We only ended up using the EMH the first morning so even that wasn't really an advantage. Oh well!

This has turned into more of a ramble than I intended so I will leave it there for this post and then post again, (hopefully with a more concise!!) summary of the meals / shows that we did.

So.. we headed back to DL around 7pm or so. Neither of us felt like getting up out of bed but it's not going to help the jet lag by sleeping from 4pm in the afternoon. My husband said I'm only going because I know how hard it was for you to get the Oga's reservation! We took the Monorail in to Tomorrowland - my husband hadn't been on it before so he wanted to see it.

I won't give a minute by minute as I can't remember everything we did but just jot down a few things as I remember them.

RONTO'S ROASTERS - We came by this by chance wandering through SW:GE and there was no line so we just decided to order there. It is not something that I would normally order. We both had the Ronto Wrap - it was REALLY GOOD!!! I also had the Meiloorun Juice and that was also quite tasty.

OGA'S - Oga's was great. We lined up 10mins or so before our reservation time of 8.35pm. We were in quickly. I know NOTHING about SW but just wanted to have a look at it. We were lead to the bar area, just in front of DJ Rex which was great and ordered a couple of drinks. My husband ordered something alcoholic (might have been the Jet Juice?) - it was pretty uninspiring when it came - just a fairly small amount of brown liquid in a glass, nothing else. I ordered the non-alcoholic Carbon Freeze. This one was pretty cool and quite tasty. It's kind of steaming and fizzing with popping pearls swirling. I also ordered the Batuu Bits. They were ok but quite a bit of it was spicy which I don't like and my husband didn't have any as I'd expected so I left quite a bit of it.
We enjoyed the Cantina and I would go again next time. We just had the one drink and left as my husband wasn't that keen for another drink.

We then waited and watched the fireworks there next to the MF in SW:GE. You have a great view of them there but you don't have the music so it is hard to know when they're over. I heard a guy near us (he was a CM from what I overheard) tell his friends you'll know when they're over as you'll be blind : ) Turns out that's true. I stepped away a few seconds too early and just after there was the massive finale. Beware however - as they are shot off quite near there they are VERY loud.

LAMPLIGHT LOUNGE - went on the Monday lunch time. I'm not a huge fan. I tried the Lobster Nachos at the Cove Bar last time and they were so, so to me but I love lobster so I thought I'd give them another go. I would have liked to sit outside on the verandah overlooking Paradise Bay. They lead us to a table inside. I asked about outside but all they could offer us was the long / communal high top table so we stuck with inside. It was ok. It was very noisy and I wasn't overly a fan - I don't know that I would go back again.
I'd made a second reservation for our 3rd day on the Wednesday but I cancelled it.

CAFE ORLEANS - we went here for lunch on the Wednesday. I think I made the reservation during that morning. I'd originally made a reservation from home for Tuesday lunchtime but cancelled that late Monday night-more on that later.
I requested outside seating on the rail when checking in which they were able to accommodate a short time later. There's nothing better than sitting there, overlooking the ROA and people watching.
We ordered the obligatory Monte Cristo and Pommes Frites. My husband initially was going to order something else which I said was fine but he could see I was disappointed as I wouldn't have ordered the MC just for myself, it's too big. He wasn't thrilled about icing sugar on his lunch but I gave him the side with the least amount on it. He didn't mind it but thought the berry sauce I was dipping mine in was pretty disgusting looking, not that he tried it : )
Unfortunately the Pommes Frites were luke warm at best. I really should have sent them back but I don't like doing that unless I really have to. They're definitely nicer when they're fresh and hot rather than barely warm.

BLUE BAYOU - we had our Fantasmic Dinner Package here on Tuesday night. I made a 5.30pm reservation and we arrived about then. There was virtually no-one in the BB waiting area which I've never seen before and I usually eat there at that time.
Requested waterside of course and she said no problem - 20 to 30 minute wait. I could see my husband give me the side-eye when he heard that!
Only waited 5mins and we were called to go in. We were given the very last table at the waterfront on the right hand side - right next to the servers / kitchen entry. It's not the best table but I'll take it to sit near the water. I've sat there or near there once before and it's been a little unpleasant with a lot of noise / banging around going on but it wasn't that bad this time.
We had a lovely meal - both had the Surf & Turf and it was really good. Received our cushions (in a white plastic carry bag) and our Fantasmic FP's after dinner.
We rode Pirates after dinner - I told my husband it was obligatory after having a meal in the restaurant!
We got to the viewing area sometime after 8pm, can't remember exactly but it was before 8.20pm for sure. They'd already let guests into the area. We were going for the back of the section so I wasn't worried about getting there early as I know people usually go for the front of the section first. (When I go with my son he likes the railing so we usually line up very early, like 7pm.) We spoke to the lovely CM as my husband has hip issues after a hip replacement and I wanted to know if we could sit on the wall at the back. You can't do this as there is about a 1 -2 meter gap at the back / before the wall which is used as a walkway and can't be blocked. She also said we couldn't stand at the back of the section as there was media behind us and her manager said they couldn't be blocked from viewing at all.
We ended up sitting at the back of the section and he used one of the rope 'poles' as a support to lean on which made it more comfortable for him. The CM was extremely accommodating and offered to take us to the H/Cap area but it was a fair way over to the side from where we were so we stayed where we were. She even came over after to check that everything was ok and he was happy to stay where he was so she certainly did everything she could to accommodate.
By show-time the section was completely full. Lots of people came (surprisingly) late, to me anyway, and had a little trouble finding somewhere to sit. A CM came along a couple of mins before showtime and asked everyone to move forward which a few did. It was a little late though, he really should have done it earlier. Enjoyed the show as usual. Didn't mind sitting at the back for a change as you are looking over the railing there rather than through it. Sitting at the back didn't impede our view at all. My husband hadn't seen the show since 2014 (it was dark in 2016 for the rerouting of ROA when he was last there) so he enjoyed it.

WOC DESSERT PARTY - we did this on the last night. As it was a 10.15pm showing I did it on our last night so we didn't have to be up early the next morning. I'd stacked FP's for Soarin / RSR / Guardians so we came back in to DCA and did those three then went to the DP line. We got there at 9pm for our 9.30pm 'reservation' time. There was probably 10 - 12 groups in front of us. The line got a lot longer after. A CM came down the line and pre-checked us in and we were let in ~ 9.25pm. When you get down to the tables another CM asks you what seating you would like. We got the last high top at the front. They'd told the group in front of us there was none left at the front but that's because they were a group of 4. We were seated with another couple - mum & daughter (who looked 12 but was apparently off to college!) Had a bit of chit chat with them, offered a couple of rounds of drinks - we had the 'blue cocktail' one and also some water and hot chocolate. I've done the DP a couple of times before. The desserts aren't the best but you can't beat the seating. We had a great view - over to the RHS and kind of central between the two lighting (?) towers. An easy trip from there back to our room at the GCH.

JOLLY HOLIDAY BAKERY - I can't say I've been here a lot. I had a huge list of treats written down that I wanted to try and the Raspberry Rose Macaron was top of the list. How did I not know about these before??? I don't want to say how many I had over the 3 days but they are sooooo good. The Imagination Pink cupcake was up there as well.

We also had the Dole Whip Float of course whilst watching the Tiki Room Show, and I also tried the Schmoozies Sorcerer Mickey Shake and Blueberry Donut which weren't bad but I'm not a big shake drinker. I'd also just had two go's on Guardians so I was a little queasy (I get motion sickness) so I didn't enjoy them as much as I might have and had to throw away some of it.
Also got the 'Grey Stuff' but didn't eat it till the next day (in Seattle) so it had lost a bit of it's shine by then : )

I'll leave it there for now - have to go do the school run. Will add a bit more later if I think of anything else we ate. I don't have time to proof read now so hope it's ok :-)

Loving your review! Thanks for taking the time to write it, and sounds like a wonderful vacation, especially Alaska. That's on our list for next year :-) Thanks again!!!

cruised Alaska then a week up through Canada with Rocky Mountaineer to Calgary.

Awesome write up, thanks so much for sharing! What an epic trip! Which cruise line did you do Alaska with?
My dad used to drive the Rocky Mountaineer until he retired :)

While your villa did not have a view, it was very close to the "unofficial" smoking area :goodvibes

Exactly! When I first walked into our room I was like 'damn, if we were a few levels up we would have had a great view', but....it's not all about me is it ;-)
Our room was over to the left of here and when I looked out from our courtyard I could see the area pictured above across the way and I remembered you had mentioned something about an unofficial smoking area near the BBQ's. The smoking receptacle / ashtray is on top of that bin in the picture.
The only people we did see anywhere near here was Resort Security walking along this path so I told my husband just to grab one of them and make sure it was ok to smoke there and they were fine with it.
He's reasonably considerate with his smoking so if there had been anyone using that area he wouldn't have lit up near them.
Thanks again for posting the information pre-trip, it did make life a bit easier for him.

My used to drive the Rocky Mountaineer until he retired

We cruised Alaska with Royal Caribbean - Ovation of the Seas. We have cruised a fair bit with Royal, mainly down here in Australia / NZ / South Pacific but also a couple of times up in Asia. Therefore, we are now Diamond level with them - for whatever that's worth! : )
It just means that we now have access to the lounge throughout the day and at night there is 3 1/2 hours of drinks included with
hors d'oeuvres. This saves us having to buy the drink package so we just tend to cruise with them. Now that we are that level though we may try one of the other cruise lines like Celebrity or Princess lines (we saw both of those at our ports in Alaska) but to be honest, I am someone who likes 'what I know' but I have heard good things about those two in particular.

Our cruise in Alaska was a bit hit and miss. It wasn't exactly as we had thought it would be - it's funny how you can have pre-conceived notions and it turns out to be very different. We didn't see nearly as much wildlife as we thought we would but I know this varies throughout the season. We did a 7n cruise (Juneau / Skagway / Victoria / Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier). I had read you are better to cruise one way and you get 'higher' up into Alaska but that didn't suit us for this trip, I wanted to go out and come back into Seattle.
Originally I'd booked to go at the end of the season in September. This was Ovation's first season up in Alaska (Royal's been going there in other ships for years though). The first cruise of the season they did was actually an 11 nighter that also went up to Hubbard Glacier - I would have LOVED to have done this one!
However....we have very complicated schooling arrangements and I have to drive the kids 1 & 1/2 hours round trip to school AM & PM so it's not really possible to ask someone else to deal with this so I had to can the idea of going in September or May and change instead to July where our kids had a 3 week mid-year break. Hence, we didn't see as much wildlife as we perhaps might have going at another time.

Also, we were supposed to go right up near the Glacier but the ship was unable to get in there at all and had to stop 10miles out. There were too many icebergs in the channel and they couldn't go in, even another much smaller vessel than ours couldn't go up there. The week before they got in there but too much ice had come away and it just wasn't possible to go in - kind of a bummer given that was one of the main highlights of the trip : (

We also did two (very expensive) whale watching tours and my husband was desperate to see an Orca - no luck! Saw a few humpbacks but they were so far away it's kind of hard to say we actually saw them : )

The Rocky Mountaineer was great. Yes, it's expensive - obscenely so! - but so was this whole trip really, that's why I didn't take the kids unfortunately. We liked the train but both said we're not sure we would do it again. I did a whole week's package with them from Seattle to Calgary. Hotels / Tours / 2 days on RM / rest by coach. It was expensive but I just didn't want to do any of the organising this time, I just wanted to leave it to someone else. It was great in that regard but it's probably a one and done for us.
On our flight home we found an ad for a cruise / expedition to Antarctica and we are looking into doing that in ~ 3 yrs time. I will need to do a lot more research though to see exactly what wildlife / scenery you are going to see but it looks promising on the surface.

Our next big trip to the US was going to be for my 50th at the end of 2022. I've been saving for it. Planning on DLR / Universal / Knotts / son wants to stay on Queen Mary at LB / WDW / possible Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale or Orlando and probably NY. It was turning into a likely 4 week trip at a minimum. We've been to WDW twice and haven't overly enjoyed it as I feel to do it properly (WDW/Universal) you really need 2 weeks there and we've only had a week in the past, it's exhausting.
My husband was really not enjoying the thought of such a long trip touring around mainly theme parks!

I said to my husband yesterday that just my son (our youngest) and I might do that now. His response - 'THANK GOODNESS'!! He just doesn't love it like we do. (I knew the 3 days we just did at DLR was going to be a bit of a struggle for him but he managed it admirably with very few eye rolls or complaints!)
I might bring that trip forward to end Nov / December 2021 and we'll look in to doing the Antarctica trip for my 50th in 2022 for my husband and I.

Anyways......I have massively digressed, this being the Disneyland forum and all : )
I will post a few more comments about the other stuff we did / attractions etc..

So.......I've covered most of the dining / show options that we did I think.

I had to give seeing the Fireworks in front of the castle a miss this trip. Not enough time and I also knew it just wasn't going to be possible for my husband to stand there and wait for them for any length of time.

Seeing them in SW:GE was great for a different perspective. It would be great if they could pipe in the soundtrack there but obviously that would take away from being on another planet etc.. so I see why they wouldn't do that.

If you can't watch in front of the castle then one of the next best places (in my humble opinion) is to watch them after Fantasmic over ROA. I really like it there over the water and you also have the projections being shown on the water screens and can hear the soundtrack. I love the current version where it starts with the orange groves and vision and sound of Walt and the Castle!

Attractions: we did pretty much every thing we wanted to over the 3 days. We did not do everything by any means, probably not even half but we did enough to be happy.

The first night after we returned to the park (after a nap & dealing with jet lag) and did Oga's and watched the fireworks - I think we went on a couple of things after, maybe HM & Pirates ?, we were headed out of the park. We'd nearly made it to the exit and I heard the train approaching there at Main St. I said 'let's jump on now so we can get that out of the way'. I love to see the Dinosaur Diorama! No problem, so we jump on and head off. Was all going well till the train came to a halt somewhere round the back (in the new section) near the entrance to SW:GE. We ended up stuck here for 30 - 40mins : (
A train in front had broken down at Toon Town Station. They weren't sure what they were going to do. Conductors walked up and down checking on people and asking them to stay seated. I felt sorry for people on the train with young children but they were all well behaved. They were talking about walking us off but wanted to do that as a last resort, they assured us we wouldn't be sleeping on the train!
In the end (after a very long wait) they backed the train behind us from NOS back to Main St and then backed us up to NOS. If this was an option then I'm not sure why it took so long to decide to do it but anyways.... It was quite funny with people below on the Frontierland path yelling out - 'You're going the wrong wayyyyyyyyy!!'
When we eventually got off there was a staff member there ready to scan a 'anywhere / anytime' FP on to our tickets for the inconvenience caused, but.... it was well after 11pm by then. I asked him if it could be used the next day but he said no. Pretty useless really which I mentioned to him to which he replied - 'well, that's up to you isn't it'. They really should have the ability to make it available for the next day in cases like that. Whilst it may not suit everyone, it would no doubt have helped some. I could have taken it up with guest services (the use of the FP not the CM's response) but I just couldn't be bothered by the time we got back round to the top of Main St.
The whole problem with what went on for us is the fact that my husband has issues walking a lot after a hip replacement.
So, after nearly being out of the park the first time we have now had to walk all the way back from NOS to the front of the park again - it wasn't great for him to be honest. Bad call on my part to do the train at the end of the night but these things happen : (

I mentioned earlier that we were given a couple of anytime/anywhere FP's to use after my Oga's reservation complications. I believe I used one of them on the Monday AM towards lunchtime. Wait times weren't bad but it seemed a waste not to use it so we went to Peter Pan to use it there. We took it to the CM near the exit and was let in. Standby was ~25mins. PP is not an attraction that I will usually do often. I don't really 'get it' - don't get me wrong. It's not that it's bad but I don't get the attraction of it and the 45 - 60min wait at times. It's similar to the popularity of Winnie the Pooh in the Asian parks - don't get the huge attraction to them myself.
My husband doesn't really know about PP, he would have been on it previously but not recently. I said to him - 'don't have too high an expectation of it, when you get off you're going to look at that line and say why are they waiting that long to ride that!'.
Sure enough, that was his thoughts on it : ) Don't shoot me, I know lots of people love it, and rightfully so, but I just don't get the huge attraction of it myself!

We never used the other free FP. Bit of a waste but as I mentioned previously, wait times were so low and also using MP meant we really didn't have any need of it.

After our train debacle and late end to the evening I realised we were not going to be able to use our MM / EMH privileges and just decided to accept that. There's no point pushing it / my husband to the point where he was miserable.
I'd made a booking for Cafe Orleans for Tuesday 12pm with the intent of doing a 7am EMH start and an early lunch. I ended up cancelling this at around 11.20pm Monday night with no issue (re: possibly needed to cancel 24hrs in advance verses just anywhere the day before) With the low wait times we were experiencing it wasn't really necessary to be in the park at opening. We weren't really planning on doing most of the attractions in FL / TL so it wasn't a huge advantage for us anyway.

We ended up doing a late start on the Tuesday AM - like ~ 11am or so into DL and didn't return to the hotel before our 5.30pm BB Fantasmic reservation. We grabbed some B/F, well brunch really at that time, at EOS in DTD and a Starbucks before heading in on the Monorail.

Over the next 2 days we did most of the attractions that we wanted to do. Dragged my husband on Small World (he's not a fan!), went on Indy once (again, he wasn't a fan - too rough on his hip). Went on Buzz a couple of times. I'd forgotten to bring WonkaKid's tips that I'd saved but I googled and found them on DIS. Beat my husband the first time which was my main goal - ha, ha! - but then gave him the tips the second time, however, my gun wasn't working the second time so that was a bit of a bust to see whether I could beat him again!

When I go with my son he is happy to ride attractions I can't do (motion sickness) by himself but my husband didn't really want to ride by himself so he didn't do a few things. Gave SM and ST a miss. I rode Guardians twice, in a row, but then I was done! He loved the ride (I think it was ToT last time he was there) but he only rode it once more by himself, said it's no fun going on your own. It's no problem for my son - he loves it and will make friends with the other guests, lots of them greeting him by name after around the park - he's a naturally chatty type of kid.

On the Monday AM I did Incredi-coaster. I can usually do this one once and be ok, just slightly seedy. This time I was massively seedy after, not fun. We then went on Soarin and I had to shut my eyes the whole time I felt so sick - kind of defeats the purpose of being on it!
Went on Soarin again a couple of times later, loved seeing the California version again.

I gave Big Thunder a miss - just didn't think I could stomach it. My husband did it once. Wouldn't go again without me using the other FP. He did go on Smugglers Run the first night SR. There's no way I was going to try it after reports I'd read re: motion sickness etc..
(My motion sickness did seem worse than previous - old age? :-) )
I think he said he was Pilot. He said they took 6 SR's from the line for his ride. The wait time at that time was around 40mins in the evening.
His thoughts on it: it was boring ?? Mmmm...Perhaps if he went on it with our boys he would have enjoyed it more but, as mentioned, I found he just didn't like to go on the attractions just by himself.

Went on Pirates and Haunted Mansion a couple of times - my husband's not a huge fan of riding things over and over like my son and I. Gave Splash a miss unfortunately, after the Grizzly Rapids incident. Couldn't talk my husband into that one. We have previously got very wet on Splash - it's very hit and miss.

Rode the Mark Twain Wednesday afternoon which was nice - haven't done that one for a few years. We also rode the Horse-Drawn Street Car - I don't think I've done it before which is nice. My husband really wanted to ride one of the main street vehicles also (the Jitney) but they weren't running at that time - CM's weren't sure why.

Rode RSR a couple of times. On the second go I finally got the 'paint job'. I always only ever seem to go to the left and have the tyre change! Gave 'Mickey's Wheel of Death' a miss. I'm not a fan!

So, we did lots but there's many others we didn't do. We just took it a bit easier. My son and I tend to tour a bit more commando style but my husband is not able / willing to do that so we just took it a bit easier. We didn't make EMH on the Wednesday either but with the low waits it really wasn't a problem on this trip.

About a day and a half in we really hadn't taken much advantage of the Photo pass included with the MP so we made a point to stop at a few of the photo opportunity locations and get them to take some photos - out front of park at train station, in front of the castle, in front of partners statue, Cars Land and Guardians at night - my husband was excited to get a photo with Groot.
There was a PP photographer at most of the M&G's this time which hasn't been my experience previously. We went to Mickey's and Minnie's houses in TT. Mickey was in his band leader costume and I like a photo in his 'traditional' outfit each time so I told my husband we would have to line up again in Town Square - he was thrilled, not : ) We ended up doing that twice. Once there was a PP photographer there and once there wasn't. We ended up with quite a few PP photos in the end, including a few ride photos, so I'll have to get around to d/loading them soon.

One thing I didn't mention in my post about our dining reservations - on our last morning at the hotel before checking out to fly to Seattle we did Mickey's Tales of Adventure Breakfast at Storytellers. I made a 9am reservation.
We had a really fun time here, especially my husband : ) Even without kids the characters really spend time with you and joke around. When I was up at the buffet at one point, Mickey sat down with my husband and pretended (or didn't pretend - who knows!) to finish off my cup of coffee for quite a while. I missed all of this but my husband took photos and seemed pretty excited about it!!
The characters came around several times and provide really great interactions with all guests. Food is pretty good too as we know!

Well, that's about it I think that I can recall. I'll do one more post about shopping / souvenirs. That one will be real short as we are not really shoppers : )

Anyone who's made it this far through my very long posts - thanks for reading!

Really enjoyed your review, thanks again. We visited the Queen Mary in March of 2018 and tried to stay overnight. Many of the displays weren't open and the self-guided tour wasn't working, so it seemed like the place was abandoned. Once we got in the room but it was super hot! Called and the person said, just open the porthole...ok? Then the neighbors came and we could hear everything including the actual clicking noises when they were typing on their phones, so of course heard every word of their subsequent argument, which seemed like it was in the same room. Tried to be good and thought well, we can just wear ear plugs to bed, till I tried to get into bed and the sheets were too small, and weren't tucked in and there were giant holes in the old hospital style blanket. Said NOPE!!! Packed up and went to the check in desk and said very nicely we'd be checking out, never got mad or raised my voice and they refunded everything including parking. Left is so much of a hurry I had to put my contacts back in once we got in the car LOL!!! Found a great hotel right down the street from Knotts Berry Farm and it was such a relief, to be in clean, quiet room. Maybe just go visit the Queen Mary LOL!!!

Souvenirs / Shopping: we are not big shoppers. We usually like to go to Target and have a look around. It was a bit of bust this time though - in LA and Anaheim. They didn't seem to carry some of the brands that I'd previously found there so we didn't really find anything we wanted to buy.

In the parks - I was after a Pixar 'Coco' mug that I had seen in a DL article. I looked through the shops in Main St on Monday morning but couldn't see it. I wasn't too worried as the article had stated it was available at WoD in DtD. When we were headed back to the parks in the afternoon I checked there but they didn't have any. They rang DL and said they had them there, I was told at the Clothiers Store. We went there and they didn't have it but sent me further up to the China Closet where I had looked that morning. This time I asked one of the CM's about the mug. Turns out she had sold the last three of the mugs about two hours ago. Damn! If I'd asked in the morning I would have been able to get it. We checked again several times over the next two days at both parks but of course there were no more. CM's said 'haven't seen those for a few days'. Oh well : (
I wanted it for my son. It is kind of blue with a skull design on it and a guitar shaped handle. My son plays the guitar / mandolin and is into scary / horror type novels / films etc.. He usually buys a mug when we go, last time it was the pumpkin halloween one. He didn't know about this mug so it's not like he was missing out on something he'd asked for but I knew he would love it and had wanted to get it for him as a gift so it was a bit disappointing not to be able to get it.

I collect the Starbucks 'You Are Here' / now 'Been There' mugs. I was able to get the latest Been There mugs at DL and DCA. I couldn't decide if I needed both the full size mug and the ornament mug, I collect both, but I didn't want to get home and regret not getting one so I ended up getting both. It's a lot cheaper to get them there rather than having them shipped to Australia. I got the Adventureland and NOS mugs sent over here a few months ago. The cost of the mugs isn't too bad but the postage is a killer!

I got the 2019 Disneyland Lenticular Postcard - I like to collect this 'year' postcard souvenir each year that we go.

We also got a Stitch mug and keyring that my older son's girlfriend wanted.

That was about it I think. I don't think we got anything else : )

So that's about all from me. Thank you to the many who post here with help and information that helps us plan our trips.
Before I left home a very kind fellow DIS'er offered to send me an opening day SW:GE DL map even though I'm all the way across the other side of the world. It was waiting here when I returned home. It was such a kind offer and much appreciated.

There are offers here, mainly from WonkaKid but occasionally others as well, to send out maps to those who would like them. Understandably, he prefers not to send internationally.

I brought home 5 sets of maps: 1 x DL / 1 x DCA / 1 x SW:GE map and food guide for each set and I'm going to offer to send them to any fellow DIS'ers here in Australia that would like them. Send me a private message with your name and address and I will send them to you.
I only have the 5 sets. If I don't get any takers here for them then I will offer elsewhere in a few days but thought I would offer here first.
I will do a separate post offering them to catch the eye of anyone not reading through my very long posts : )

Until next time.....Happy Travels to all : )

Oh no! That sounds ****** awful!!!
My son read about this online after our last trip in 2017 and has gone on and on about it since. He has been saving his money to pay for us to stay there. I haven't researched it at all but I will definitely take your advice. If that's what it's like then there's no way I'll be staying there! As you say, maybe a visit instead if he is still desperate to see it. Or... he'll be nearly 16. If he's that desperate to stay there he might have to do it by himself : )
I believe he's found out some parts of it are haunted and of course he's most interested in that aspect of it!
Thanks again for the info - I much appreciate it and will give it some very careful consideration before I even think about going / staying there!

The Queen Mary was very interesting and fun to think about it during the time it was used. My uncle was shipped back to the United States from England on it, so fun imagining it in its' glory days. I maybe should have paid more attention because when we were in line to check in, 2 different people were complaining about something, and when we checked out at 9:30pm there were 3 other people in line with problems. Oh the restaurant and snack store closed at 7 too, so nothing to eat later either...LOL!! So, go early and explore but stay somewhere else :-)

Thanks for the great write up!

I am so glad to hear this. I want to convince everyone to do a character breakfast at Storytellers on our adults trip. Now I have testimony that it's fun for adults too!

Lol you sound like me! We are veteran Disneyland Kiwis and love the 10 day passes! We've even been annual passholders several times. Loved reading your review, I'm a commando so I get why you'd want to just go with your son most times! I'm always trying to drag people out of bed! I think probably the same kind people offered to send me a SWGE opening day map too. Sadly, mine never arrived. Glad you had a good time!
