Some Still Photos of OKW Refurb Studio

Thanks for the Pictures. :thumbsup2
Do you know if they are Refurb the whole resort?

They are pretty much finishing up the Turtle Pond area, and starting on South Point. The entire resort is supposed to be done by next Spring, but I think it will be done sooner.

Has anyone been given an explanation as to why they're plugging these outlets? There had to be some expense involved when they were added (I'm assuming our dues paid for it), so why make them useless now? We'd much rather sit at the table to use our laptops rather than over on the sofa. I brought a wireless router in November, but for some reason my husband's work laptop would not connect; he ended up using the wired connection at the table. Hmm, now that I think about it, it might be a good thing if he's limited to where he can plug in....he might not work as much during our vacations! ;)

I don't think our dues paid for the initial installation, the service itself is contracted out, and I think they did the install. That is one reason we were given for not having free DVC internet right away, that the contractor had to recoup the initial cost.

It does seem strange to me, though. Was the outlet behind the bedside table always there or was it added in the renovation?

The modem/router has always been located behind the night stand. But it used to plug into an outlet that connected to the one by the table. Now you have to connect directly to the modem/router via cable. I still think they must be planning on taking the resorts fully wireless to save $ on equioment replacements.

We stayed in one of the "renovated" rooms in building 46 last December. The room we were in did have the new carpet, drapes, curtains, blue wall, and granite countertop. However the headboards and drawers had not been refinished in the dark wood motif and the TV was still the "classic" CRT. The ethernet connection was still live by the dining table plus I did use the hub behind the nightstand. I do agree that wireless is inevitable. Easier to install and maintain than fishing cables through the walls.

You were in a building in Dec. that had been renovated on the EXTERIOR. The interior of that building is being done right now. Strange that you had granite in it and the blue walls then. Chuck said earlier in this thread that 46 was being done NOW. I do know that building had not been renovated yet in December when we were there.

Disney tested some of the changes like the counters and floors before the complete renovations were started. My video has very pale yellow walls in the kitchen/living room, hall, and most of the bedroom.

Does anyone know if they're replacing any mattresses? :confused3

The studio mattresses seemed a little more comfortable, still quite firm. I saw them removing mattresses from bldg 45 or 46, whether they were moving them to store them while they repainted, or are replacing them, I do not know for sure. I think they are new.

We were in a ground level studio overlooking the pond. It was identical to the pics previously posted except for the differences I mentioned. I didn't realize it was renovated at the time. The pics triggered our memory. The "blue" walls reminded me of the color my mom had my room painted as a child. We just returned from OKW this past Sunday after a two week stay in HH. Twas not the same as our accomodations at Xmas. The HH still had the vintage plaid curtains and the undefinable green carpeting. When we were there at Xmas the exterior renovations were going on at Building 62. Sorry if it appears I'm contradicting anyone. As Joe Friday would say, "Just stating the facts."

Does anyone know if they will be replacing the ironing boards at OKW? We hate using those small boards with tiny legs.

I just spent 12 nights on a kingsized bed at OKW and it really wasn't bad. It was firm with a pillowtop and I slept great. Just like the last time we stayed at OKW two years ago. Am I getting the only good beds in all of OKW?

Count me in. I've been fortunate so far. Better than sleeping at home. :thumbsup2

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if maybe there was something wrong that they needed to replace, and maybe they did the renovations instead of just replacing the old stuff with more old stuff. Maybe if they needed to paint, they figured they'd just put the new paint on. Or maybe it was one of the test rooms???

Perhaps. The furniture was vintage OKW. The mattresses were the new design as was the carpeting, the curtains, and the counter-top. The bathroom was still the familiar tropical peach which blended with the tiles.

So was the furniture the new colors too and the bed spreads as well? Very curious. I'm betting you might have been in one of the test rooms.

We had a HA room our first night in OKW last September and the bed was just fine in that studio- but we moved in the morning (we had VERY noisy neighbors) and our new studio had Rock hard beds. And I forgot I could call for the eggcrate pad- DUH!! REALLY hope the mattresses are getting updated!!

The bedspreads where new while the furniture was the same. The bedroom was a
very pale blue.

I saw a picture of the studio on another site, it said it was refurbished... but the picture had the fridge by the bed not in the kitchenette. Is this for real?

No, none of the DVC studios have a refrigerator by the bed. They are all undercounter refrigerators.
