Not sure if this belongs here or not - mods, feel free to move wherever.

We have a 6 day reservation and then a 1-night room only reservation at POFQ.

1. How will the magic bands work for the hotel room on the room only reservation (which will be our last night). We will be in the parks that day so I'm not sure how the check-in process works through MDE.
  • 1a. Can we keep the same magic bands?
  • 1b. Will there be any issues getting into the room?
2. Our travel agent is asking/requesting Disney that we can stay in the same room but she can't guarantee it. Any idea on the odds we can stay in the same room?
3. If for some reason we have to move/switch rooms (hopefully we wont), would Disney be able to move our luggage?
4. How soon will I be able to find out if we can stay in the same room or if we will have to move to a different room? We will be in the parks on that day and moving to a new room will really suck.

1. Magic bands are tied to your MDE account, not the specific hotel stay. So as long as both reservations are connected to the MDE account with your magic bands on them. they'll work. If you have any issues with the 2nd room, it might just be that your check out/check in hasn't been processed, which should be a simple fix at the front desk

2. Your TA should be able to add a note that they are "linked" reservations. They cannot guarantee you will be able to stay in the same room, the odds of doing so are pretty dependent on what is going on at the hotel so hard to predict - but if the two reservations are clearly noted as linked, Disney will do their best to keep you from moving. You should stop in at the front desk when you arrive for the first part of your stay, and make sure it's noted that your one night reservation is connected to your first reservation.

3. They can definitely move your luggage for you

4. Room assignments are available the day of check in, but it wouldn't hurt to ask guest services a day or two ahead of time. If they can't provide any info (which they may not be able to), just assume you'll have to move and make sure your room is ready to go. If you get to keep your same room, at least your packing for the end of your trip is mostly done LOL

MDE is asking me to choose magic bands for both reservations which seems odd. Do I need to bother with bands for the room only reservation at all?

They're two separate reservations so you have the option to get MB's for each reservation. But the bands themselves aren't linked to a reservation, they're linked to your MDE account. You can just decline the MB's for the one night reservation and use the bands from your first reservation (or whatever MB's you may have already on your MDE account)

Thanks so much for your help. That's what I thought but I wanted some confirmation to help me sleep at night :-)

Are the rooms the same category? Eg garden view/river view? I wonder if the reason your TA split up your reservation was that the category was sold out on the last night. If that is the case, that increases your likelihood of having to move.

Impossible to say. It will solely depend on how busy the resort is, but they will certainly try, especially if its the same room type.

They won't move it without you present. But if you call on check out morning of your first reservation, they can come pick up your luggage for you, store it, and then whenever you get to the new room, you can call and they will deliver it to the new room for you. You can also walk your luggage up to the front and store it yourself and retrieve it on your way back to your new room, which would most likely be faster.

We've done it the opposite way (1 night before our package stay), and they were able to confirm for us that we'd be in the same room when we checked in for the 1 night stay. Because we knew we'd be in the same room, we were able to call the morning our package started to formally "check in". It was very simple. So definitely ask when you check into the 6 day portion. Being that its 6 days out from your 1 night, they may not be able to confirm for you at that point because it will depend on when they do room assignments. So you could try checking around day 4 or 5 as well.

Rooms are in same category. River View.

The reason for the room only - We got free dining and it wasn't available for the entire length of our stay. I originally had a 5 night/6 day reservation and asked about a 6 night reservation but free dining wasn't available as a 6 night, so I just added the room only on the end of the stay. It wasn't anything my TA did, it was me. Our frequent flyer miles worked best for a 7-day RT, so I booked them first and then worked the reservation into that timeframe. We went through Small World Vacations and they are top notch in my opinion.

4. For efficiency it's in the resort's best interest to keep you in the same room because then mousekeeping doesn't need to reset a room and bell services doesn't need to handle your luggage. But sometimes it just doesn't work out and they need to move you.
I'd mention it on 1st check-in, then call down 2-3 days before the change day to see what they advise or if they can confirm staying put. Depending what they say, maybe pop down to the desk the day before to try too. Hope it works out!
